Obtained a basic trailer rental. Drove in one easy direction in good weather. Upon return, difficult manager, cleared the return with me while I unhooked, but then for an inordinate amount of time, "stalled" while I waited further inspecting the return (without my presence). Invented bogus damage claim (a couple of scratches on the top). Produced No before pics like a rental car, only their assertion, of the damage. Complete fraudsters, I wouldn't trust this location, for any of their services, especially if there is, "possible liability". Go see the Uhaul, guys in Petersburg, they are awesome, and honest. read more

We rent the truck at 1:30 p.m. and the manager Sherry Grundstrom handled us, she asked us to return the truck no later than 6:30 p.m. as the contract stated, and after we paid, the fuel tank capacity showed on the pin-pad, she said: "don't worry about it, it's broken" and lead us outside to the truck. The fuel indicator was at the line of 7/8, and as our usual experience we confirmed that we will return the truck with gas at the same level. We understood that this is a busy season, we wrapped up early and returned the truck at 4:50 p.m.. We refilled the gas to the level between 7/8 and Full. As Sherry inspected the truck, she said that we didn't refill the gas tank to full and that she will charge us $1.58 at each liter. We told her that we didn't take a full tank when we left but she said "I knew but you have to return a full tank of gas, and the truck is messy too." I regret not taking any pictures before we left and after we returned, because I didn't expect such dishonesty. And how could an empty truck be messy? We absolutely didn't drink or eat within the truck and all of our stuff was neatly packaged. Apparently Sherry Grundstorm is famous for her grumpy service on Google. She charged us $8.98 extra, it is not the money that we care about, I want to make sure that no one suffers from her bad attitude again and I hope this is not the way U-Haul makes money in the future. read more

Was helping a friend move to Waterloo. The staff here was really friendly and explained to me clearly the extra mileage charge. We left after the quick transaction and they helped direct us back to civilization. Luckily we caught a bus to conestoga mall although it is apparently walking distance from this U-Haul location. read more

The guy helping me was great! I rented my van, moved my things and was back in a couple hours. Paid ~$26 in total and I didn't even have to fill any gas back in since I barely drove the van a couple kilometers; very convenient service. The lady serving the other line while I was waiting for my truck to be ready, on the other hand, was quite a spectacle. I don't want to bad mouth an employee (especially because I'll probably rent a van here again and don't want to get shafted), but she was very confrontational and rude/mean to the customer she was serving. There was a kerfuffle and a bit of an argument - something along the lines of the customer, who looked like a college going male student, asked if it would be okay to bring his vehicle back an hour or two after the deadline, after which the lady immediately raised her voice and refused to rent the van out, saying she was afraid he would break the contract and did not want to rent to him anymore. This basically left the guy stranded and he was SOL. I think in the end she did agree to rent to him, but it definitely seemed very unprofessional to me standing one line over. I don't know if she was the manager (she was definitely talking with an authoritative tone) but if so, that just reflects even more poorly on the business. The staff at this location are courteous and helpful, but the company itself is very deceitful. They've raised my rent 3 times in the past year and haven't sent me an email or letter or phone call to give me a reason. read more

It's difficult to give an accurate rating of this location, since my experience was partly with the employees at the location itself, and partly with Uhaul on the phone. In summary, both parties were kind and helpful, but the lack of coordination between the two caused difficulties. I decided that I wanted to rent two furniture dollies and called the location to make a reservation. I was rerouted to the Uhaul call center (somewhere in the US; they asked for a zip code), where I was taken care of quite well. I was assured that my reservation was complete and all I had to do was show up at the Colby location to pick up my dollies. When I showed up, there were no dollies available to rent. Further, I was told that Uhaul policy is that furniture dollies are only rented along with a rental truck (which I did not need). The employees at Colby drive tried their best to offer alternatives, although they did not have anything else that would work for me. In the end I had to go to a hardware store and buy a dolly, which was surprisingly expensive. Clearly there are some issues with the communication between the workers at the individual Uhaul locations and the remote employees at the call centre. If you want to rent from here, I would recommend that you get in touch with someone who actually works at the location in Waterloo rather than at a call centre or on-line. read more
