My husband requested a divorce and I later found out he had been having an affair for two years. Due to the distance and the affair I wanted a quick and easy solution. With no kids involved my husband and I agreed to an amicable divorce. The husband wanted to file the papers ourselves but I refused due to the chance of something going wrong and potentially finding out later I was still married. Being in CA complicated matters but after some research I found Brian! Brian was the upmost professional and was understanding and gracious. He was helpful at every turn and honest. This was supposed to be a quick divorce that only took 3-6 months but my husband would not get his part done quickly and the divorce took nearly a year. Brian was patient and understanding and continued to work with us. Brian is fabulous. He is quick to respond and answer questions. He is honest and forthcoming with his thoughts. His para-legal, Marla, is fantastic as well. She was quick to respond via email and text. During the week of the divorce there was a paper that needed to get done quickly and she talked me through the process and calmed me down during a very stressful time at work. You will not go wrong using Brian as your attorney! I feel lucky and blessed to have found him, you will be as well!

I am on disability and my financial situation dictated that I find someone willing to work with me on that front. My wife and I met with Brian and were impressed with him. He is very friendly with an easy manner. He has a way of taking tense and intimidating situations and deflating them, making those situations much more comfortable and easier to handle. He is great at helping you stay centered when everything around you seems to have gone haywire. For us, he was a steadying presence in the most chaotic and disruptive situation of our lives. My case was a very contentious and difficult one. Brian worked long and hard for me and always got back to me when I had concerns or questions. My wife and I were in a place where every new development felt like an emergency, so there were a lot of times when we would get a little more worked up than was appropriate, but Brian was very patient with us and helped move us from a panicked state to a much calmer place. One of Brian's strengths is his ability to make legal processes and documents understandable for the layman. Obviously, dealing with a legal situation can be very confusing, but I was always able to understand clearly what we were dealing with after Brian had explained things to me. Needless to say, it was very comforting to know that I wasn't going to be left in the dark and confused by legal terminology and procedure. Brian represented me very ably in the court room. He seemed very comfortable and confident in that environment, and did his best to minimize the amount of pressure I felt. I was particularly struck by the feeling that he was fighting hard to protect me and my interests. I feel like Brian is the kind of lawyer that will fight for his clients, because I saw him fighting for me. When the process was over, I ended up in a better place than where I started concerning my custody situation. I have more time with my son than I did before all of this, and I have Brian to thank for that. His hard work and dedication to my case yielded positive results, and believe me when I say that he went far beyond his responsibilities to help me. Considering my financial limitations, I did not think it would be possible to find anyone as capable and engaged as Brian was. He did what most lawyers would not. He put helping a client in need over immediate financial concerns. With all that said, I personally feel like Brian is genuinely a good person. My situation was a difficult and frustrating one, and because of my disability, I can be a difficult person to deal with. The fact that Brian stuck by me with care and understanding through what had to be a frustrating case for him is something I will always be grateful for. If you want a lawyer that will represent you capably and who will always do right by you, then I cannot recommend Brian Johnson enough.

I've thought about this for weeks now and really feel like I need to provide my experience…read more Mr. Godwin's office was recommended to my husband and I by two different families. So, we were hopeful and excited to learn more and begin the process of becoming adoptive parents. I've read a lot of adoption books and articles, joined the social groups online, etc., but the information overload was real and we wanted to meet in person and talk to a real people. So, we drove an hour and a half to Mr. Godwin's office opting for a face to face rather than virtual meeting. The attorney we met with was fantastic. She was very personable, excited to provide information and seemed genuinely glad to be able to help and share her story, as well as learn ours. As an adoptive parent herself, she was able to clarify some things and really gave us some great insight into the process. My husband and I were so happy to meet her and felt like we could be moving in the right direction. However, that feeling vanished when we met with Marion, the woman who handles the matching of adoptive and biological parents. When Marion walked in the room all the energy and comfort went out of the meeting. It almost seemed as if she took one look at us and decided we were not worthy of her time or having a child. She was very condescending telling us "not to cheap out on a home study because she doesn't have time to train people to do their jobs." She then begrudgingly provided us with a few names of home study providers after I mentioned the attorney said that Marion would have those names and phone numbers. She was also rude when I asked about the family books that they kept to provide as examples for adoptive parents (also mentioned by the attorney). She sighed and said "yeah we have some over there," pointed and huffed as she got up and threw the books on the table for us. At the end of the meeting, my husband and I both felt like Marion walked in to that room, took one look at us and decided that we weren't worthy of her time or a child. Sure, she may have been having a bad day, we all do, but she is the person who directly presents a birth mother with adoption candidates. And after our experience with her, it is really difficult to put our trust and faith in the process and feel like we're being fairly represented when we feel like she's already judged us and can't be bothered.
