That's the backdrop for our August 15th wedding. From my first conversation with Joan, I could tell that she was a kind and sweet soul. She assured me that planning a wedding from out-of-town would not be an issue for her. Her pricing was reasonable (and looking back, probably a steal given all the work she did) and she even offered a nice discount when booking through WeddingWire. Our first in-person meet up was fantastic as she was able to arrange for meetings with ALL the major vendors and schedule a tour of the venue. As stated, this was extremely helpful and efficient because I did live in another state so meeting time was limited. From the very beginning she made it clear that she was willing to work within whatever budget we were comfortable with and proved this when she went above and beyond to find more cost-sensitive vendors when initial ones were out of our budget. She is extremely attentive to details and thought of all kinds of things that only an expert in the field of weddings would even consider. I could always easily contact her via text or email and she was always willing to hear my ideas, review images and help to execute my vision. To say that she is organized is an understatement. She was an excellent record keeper, maintaining spreadsheets and providing diagrams and timeline handouts for vendors and the wedding party. Although an extremely stressful time in anyone's life, COVID definitely added some additional twists and turns that we never anticipated but with her help, we were able to navigate each hurdle. Anything that I needed handled was done so expeditiously. My day went perfectly, the theme came together just as I imagined and I would definitely recommend her services. As icing on the cake, the weather all week predicted a high probability of rain, specifically at the time of the ceremony, however there wasn't a drop of rain from the time we started the ceremony to the time we finished. I'd like to think Joan had a little talk with God for that one haha. I highly recommend her services for anyone looking for an experienced, effective, enthusiastic planner who will make your dreams come true!

I have said countless times this was our dream wedding, but if we did one thing differently it would have been to hire Parris for the rehearsal dinner too! My husband and I both have demanding work schedules, however Parris was incredibly understanding, accommodating, and communicative. This helped make a potentially overwhelming process fun and exciting every step of the way! Even more importantly, we are not originally from Columbia and so we were not well versed in the available vendors or venues. Parris listened to our visions for both the wedding and rehearsal in addition to taking the time to get to know us and what specifically we may want. My experience with this venue was extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable. I booked the M Space…read morefor a semi-formal dance, we've used it before, and I assumed it would be a good choice. I was wrong. At first, Michelle communicated well. She explained that a woman living above the venue is very sensitive to noise and that music could not exceed 80 decibels. I told her we would have a DJ with his own speakers and sound system, and we discussed this multiple times both in text and in person. His contact information was included in the contract, and I sent it to her directly so she could explain the noise policy to him. Everything seemed fine until the event. Within the first 15 minutes, a random woman walked in asking for the venue keys. She was decorating for an event the next day, and Michelle had told her she could come by, yet she never informed me of this. About 30 minutes into the event, Michelle texted saying the upstairs neighbor was complaining about the music and that someone from the HOA was outside taking pictures of us. She then tried to claim I never told her about the DJ or his equipment even though I had proof we had discussed it and she had already been communicating with him. After I showed her the messages, she stopped responding. We had to turn the music down so low it was barely audible over guests talking. On top of that, what I thought was a homeless man kept walking around outside and looking through the windows, making everyone uncomfortable. Around 9:30 PM, this man entered the venue through the back door. My boyfriend and I told him to leave because it was a private event. He insisted he was "supposed to be there," and only after I threatened to call the police did he explain that he worked for the venue and wanted to begin setting up for the next day's wedding reception. Even though my event wasn't scheduled to end until 10 PM, he continued insisting he needed to be there. I was never told that this man would be at the venue, let alone walking into my event in the middle of it. Everyone was so freaked out and guests began leaving because they were so unsettled. By the end, I was overwhelmed, scared, and in tears trying to clean up. Michelle and her staff were completely unprofessional from start to finish. I strongly recommend not booking this venue if you want your event to be enjoyable and stress-free.

Within the first 15 minutes someone came in each time with a complaint of sound. I understand people live above it but don't rent out the venue for events that involve music and volume if you can't have it. You get what you pay for and there is a reason this venue is one of the cheapest in Columbia.
