Great close location! Lots of grass and the access to the river is right there. A great place to just hang and enjoy nature!

If you are looking for a fun seasonal campground, I would strongly urge against staying here. The management has control issues, are very rude most of the time, and they will charge you extra for everything possible. We were on our 2nd season staying here as Full Time RVers. We have traveled to numerous campgrounds for weeks to months at a time, and have never been treated so poorly as we were at Birch Bay. Knowing that we lived there (and it was our home location), they kicked us out mid-season, giving us a week to leave without discussion. This, for doing absolutely NOTHING against the rules. We were up singing around a campfire with many friends (from the campground) on a Saturday night, up until quiet time, which was 11 PM at this time (as read in our contract. I see now that they have changed that to 10:30pm). At 10:59 PM the music was shut off. At 11:02, management called our cell phone and said, "Party is over...meet me in the office at 9AM", where they proceeded to say we needed to leave and had a week to do so. The last comment made from management was to "make sure your friends knew you are taking the fall!" Who does this?! A couple hours later, management did come back and offer us a different site back in the woods, but again, made a comment about making sure our friends stay away! So, not only did they kick us out without talking about noise levels acceptable during normal hours, they then wanted to control who and how many friends we hung out with! We left the next day! I wouldn't recommend this campground to my worst enemy. If you like to be controlled and treated poorly, this may be the campground for you. I know they will come back with a rebuttal as they always do too turn the blame against the camper, but how many times can they do this too campers before people see right through them.

The owners of this resort are very nice and friendly. You can rent out one of their six cabins or a spots for an RV. They have a Lodge right away when you get to the resort where you can check in and out as well as buy beer on tap. They also carry other beverages, ice cream, convince items, and also a variety of other things. They also have free coffee there in the mornings. This resort is right on Leech Lake and has its own private boat ramp attached to their marina. Right by the marina, they also have a wood fired oven available for their guest to use, and you will definitely want to use it. While we stayed here, we used the wood fired oven twice and it was amazing. They also have canoes and kayaks for guests to use, which were very fun. They have a small beach for people and also a small dog beach. A lighthouse is also located by the dog beach area. Overall this was a great resort to stay at for vacation. It had everything we needed and you can't beat the location. Being able to sit in the morning and view the lake is truly great.

What's going to ruin your time is if you have to talk to any of the employees in their yellow KOA shirts. Seems like they're there to police policies more than anything. I've been to Germany and they're less militant about their rules. (Another guest called them the "Gestapo"). If you choose to stay here, good luck to you and yours... do yourself a favor and stay away from the yellow shirts. The staff went above and beyond, when they showed us to our site they realized to he people next to us had left their dogs unattended (which they weren't supposed to do and they staff had been trying to reach the owners) but the dogs were barking. So they offered to move us. And I think we got a better end of the deal! Not a hookup, but we refunded for the lack of a sewer line. It did t really matter since we're so close to the bathrooms anyway! The campground had a pool, a play ground, and a huge lawn for kids to run around. But I really can't gush enough about the staff! Amazing! WiFi seemed to disappear at night, which was a bummer, but all in all we'd stay here again!
