This place has some talented, experienced mechanics and a very responsive, accommodating front desk person. That said, they are one of the most expensive shops in Vermont--even more expensive than our regional Subaru dealership service centers. On a most recent visit, I asked about their hourly rate ($155) ahead of time. I could see my car sitting outside for a full hour while they caught up on appointments before bringing it in to the garage. An hour later (two hours total) they charged me $375--almost 2 1/2 hours of labor, and stated there was more work involved than anticipated. I'm happy to pay a good mechanic a high labor rate, but not thrilled to pay 2 1/2 hours of labor for an hour of work. read more

I took my car here because it had a list of problems. One of the problems was the car would periodically not start due to a dead spot in the starter. I could get it to start using one of a few tricks. I took my car here, like I said, with a list of problems and I really wanted to know what would be the cost to get my car running problem free. I didn't care how much it cost. I was trying to determine if I should just get a new car or fix up the old one. The mechanic had me replace the starter ($800) so that he could assess the rest of the car's problems with it running. I thought he could just start it like I did but I agreed to having the starter replaced. It took him about one mile of driving to deduce that the car was not worth fixing. He was real honest about this and I appreciated it. I wish he could have reached this conclusion without a new $800 starter. read more

From quick responses to my appointment requests to notifying me via text that my car is ready, I appreciate the customer service given by the team. It was a dark and snowy day, where all hell hath frozen over and all faces were grumpy at 8am. I had a freak windshield-wiper blade accident that rendered half my windshield unusable. Understanding that I was most likely screwed, as everyone is scrambling to get their winter tires on, I went to the Twisted Wrench first thing in the morning to see if they couldn't help me out. In comes one of the company owners, in the middle of his morning routine, who then put the coffee down, suited up, and walked out to my car to see what was going on. He jumped right on, fixing the problem on the spot. I was in my military uniform, and when I asked to pay, he simply thanked me for my service and sent me on the way. As a former ACE Master Tech that does not live in the area, I found this shop online and then had my son take his car here to have parts installed even though they were more expensive than other shops. Here it is 2 months down the road and car is back home where we were doing an oil change and discovered shoddy workmanship and complete disregard for the safety of their customers. Don't be fooled by their social media presence and digital communication etc that make it seem like they are responsible. I absolutely love Twisted Wrench and let me tell you a little story to make you understand why. Being a woman, I am extremely skeptical of all things auto mechanic. Since I have a Honda, sometimes I take it to the dealer because my husband trusts them and to be fair, they have never done us "wrong". However, now, I don't feel like they do anything to really try to figure out the root of the problem either, based on my experience with Twisted Wrench. My airbag light was lit up on my dashboard so I took my car to the dealership and they ran their handy dandy diagnostic machine which stated that both of my front airbag sensors had gone bad. Now, my vehicle has NEVER been in an accident. It is one family owned and not so much as a scratch... So how is this possible that BOTH airbag sensors go out at the same time?!? My inner analyst can not compute this data, however the dealer was very happy to give me a quote to fix both sensors (not cheap) and eager to schedule the work done. I decided that like with doctors, sometimes it is just wise to get a second opinion. Enter Twisted Wrench. I had read good reviews and they are a certified Honda mechanic (as well as other makes). They ran the same handy dandy diagnostic machine that came up with the same answer....However they looked at me perplexed and said "But that doesn't make sense" Thank you. I'm not crazy! In the end, ONE (not both) airbag sensor was bad due to the bracket rusting through it. To get to that conclusion, they checked my wiring, and really looked at the car instead of assuming the machine is always right. They took the bracket off, sanded and painted it so it won't happen again.and really impressed me with their deductive reasoning and not just trying to get to a quick fix and more money. The fact is, I did pay them for their time to look into the wiring and they did charge more for the airbag sensor replacement than it would have cost to have one airbag sensor replaced at the dealer. But I attribute that to the fact that perhaps the dealership gets the parts at a lower cost. I don't know. What I do know is that even if it costs a little more to get my car serviced at Twisted Wrench, they have earned my trust and loyalty from here on out. And for that, I'm gladly willing to pay for the peace of mind that I'm not being yanked around and having money taken out of my pockets like I have felt at other mechanics/dealers in this area. Not usually your favorite thing to do - bringing your car in to be diagnosed for an oil leak but the Twisted Wrench crew came through as usual. Conveniently dropped off my keys and car the night before in their lockbox and they called in the morning to let me know the oil leak was fixed and changed the oil. They also were concerned about brake wear and muffler needing work and I never feel like they're trying to sell me unlike the dealer and I had both repaired. Being that we have had less than positive experiences at various mechanics in the past, we turned to reviews on Yelp to guide us to a trustworthy one. And Yelp, you have not let us down! We hit a chunk of asphalt in our little Toyota Echo and brake fluid started pouring out the rear passenger's side wheel. I called Tuesday and was able to get in to have it fixed on Wednesday at the Twisted Wrench. They took the time to determine what was wrong, and fixed only the side that needed fixing. They were very nice and honest, and the cost to have the brake cylinder replaced was exactly what they quoted us. I took my car here to fix my Volvo. Their website said they work on volvos but I would not recommend taking your Volvo here. They might be more experienced with other types of cars. My check engine light came on and they "fixed it" and then it came back on again. They tried to fix it, then it happened again. I took it back three times and the light is still on. I gave up I'm not taking it back. I guess I will have to take my car to get fixed somewhere else. Don't take your Volvo here. read more

I was a new customer who brought in my car to get a coolant leak fixed. At first everyone seemed very nice. I am told by twisted my car is fixed. about a couple days later I still have the same problem. This being my first time to this shop a red flag went up. Why do I still have the same problem? Well they look through my car and turns out there's a problem with the water pump, alright that's fair. After brining it in for a second time it seemed like everything was fixed.... well it wasn't. Now I'm not happy at all. I'm about 2000$ into this fix and they still haven't fixed the issue. I call them again (my mistake) and they say to bring my car in. After taking a look they pretty much say they don't know where it is and it's gonna take a minimum or 3 hours to find the spot + cost of labor and parts of I decided to continue. At this point I can't believe they just told me they want more money from me for the same problem. I told them I am not going to throw any more money into the car for the same issue; as it's an old car, and he says he understands. I go inside and they try and charge me for an hour to look over the car. I couldn't believe it, I'm brining my car in for the third time for the same problem and they wanna charge me for looking at it. The owner, Jim intervened and charged me 5$ for it. I was done with the place. However, Jim called me the next day asking if there was any way to make things better as he valued the business my family has brought him and Jim wanted to give me my money back. After talking to Jim, he assures me he'll talk to the mechanic who worked on my car and would call me back on Tuesday (it was Friday or Saturday when Jim and I talked) this made me feel really good about twisted ranch and I was very happy Jim decided to contact me. This is where it all ends, it's been about a week since that day Jim was supposed to call me back. At this point it's clear to me he doesn't value me as his customer enough to follow through with his word or even contact them to let me know he has been busy and hasn't had a chance. I just haven't heard a single peep from anyone (besides the email telling me to go rate them to get 25$ worth of work.) I don't need the 25$ but I'm going to make sure to leave a review everywhere. My sister swears by them and maybe if you have history with them they treat you well, BUT IF YOURE GOING IN AS A NEW CUSTOMER I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AVOIDING TWISTED WRENCH. read more

This is just one person's opinion, but what started as a favorable relationship has become an expensive, frustrating experience. Was my first mistake buying an used car from the folks who had cared for our cars? I thought that would lesson my risk, that we would have a greater likelihood to have a car that would last the length of the loan. Wrong-o. I paid top dollar without negotiating because of this trust only to have the frame rust out with over $2,000 left on the loan. Then there was when I was told that I had a small leak in my radiator. What wasn't shared was that there would be no warning if this got worse because the transmission fluid cools the engine when the radiator can't until it is all gone and the car will suddenly stop on the highway and the transmission would need to be replaced. This happened the day after I left the shop and less than 100 miles later. The temperature never rose--I was watching and the car ran fine... until it didn't. There was also the death knell we were given of another beloved car which meant that we had to buy a new car. A few weeks later we discovered that the car passed inspection just with new tires and is still on the road a year later. Wish we had that one to replace the one we bought from Twisted Wrench. I think the worst part is the loss of a trusting relationship. I appreciated that they answered my phone calls, but it was clear who was took the risk, who was at fault and who was stuck with the very high priced car care. As I said, we may just have had very bad luck, but the lack of professional responsibility for long time and loyal customers has left us feeling burned. read more

A few years ago they charged me over $600 for new front brake discs and pads with some kind of excuse that the design of the car made it much more labor intensive to do the work. Well, those same discs (less than 3 years later) are now completely warped, and this time I replaced them myself and bought the parts for a total of $44 with free shipping, and it took me less than an hour.
