The property along the beachfront of the river is very pretty. It was well maintained and check in…read morewas fairly straightforward. The camp host was rather rude from the start though. The tent campsites are TINY and very close to each other. This wouldn't be so bad if your group has two side by side, but if not, beware. When we questioned the camp host about the lot sizes she snapped at us about how they were the biggest around. That is a lie, but whatever. The grounds keeper was also very rude and creepy. Anyway, the site beside us was full of frat boys who were drinking heavily through the night. Falling out of their cars, puking everywhere, screaming. I checked on them a few times and they were nice enough but continued to play music into the early hours of the morning disturbing my family and the family next to us. People use hipcamp to avoid the crowds. This was like a typical Texas state park. Nothing special besides the river. The hiking was terrible. And the lots are SMALL. We left an honest and fair review on the hipcamp website and the owner Tony responded with the most hateful retort, haha. Saying that his ranch was worth $5million dollars and our measly $100 rental didn't deserve a bigger site or space. That the $100 wouldn't even pay for his gas. He caters to the ones who rent out the acre lots, not weekend campers. Very unprofessional. So I'm sure for some this place will be fine, but management is rude and the lots are trash. We will never go back and would not recommend this site to anyone looking for a relaxing camping trip. This is stripmall camping on a pretty spot.

Short version: Monica is a liar. They charge for every one unless they are 2 weeks old then they…read more"might not". The "manager " can't contact any other managers. You might get stabbed by rusty nails. Long version: We ( my mother, my 2 year old, my 3 month old and I) visited almost 3 weeks ago. The "manager" Monica (short lady , red hair ) charged me for my 3 month old. When I questioned why I was paying for him to enter when he can't play , she asked how old he was. I clarified his age and she reiterated that they charge for babies too because they have an area for them. In that area was a monster truck climbing statue and some climbing blocks. Mind you he can't even sit up on his own let alone climb or crawl. I went back and asked why his age mattered if they charged further everyone. Monica then said "if they are 2 weeks old then we may not charge". It seemed as though she was making up lies as she went. She couldn't give me a receipt. She says she didn't have the contact to any manager. Then she says she was a manager. Just a bunch of bs. My mother stabbed herself on some type of nail or dining in the "newborn place area" . It was just horrific. We said that we'd be contacting the BBB and calling back to shush to an actual manager, as well as contacting someone for the safety concerns. Maybe 20 minutes later she called my phone saying "we heard about the complaint and are issuing a refund " I knew it was her trying to save her job with a hush refund because we hadn't filed a complaint yet. I've had an obligation to go to this park at least once a year for basically my entire life (that I…read moreknow of) for one of the many family reunions I attend. Over the course of this time, I've seen this park go from it's best days to it's worst. Thank goodness, during the last couple of years the City of Hillsboro has been diligently cleaning, updating and repairing this place into something they can be proud of again. So, currently this park has a walking path, a few playground areas, some basketball hoops, one pavilion, a concert area (with working xylophones), a couple of baseball "areas" (I can't say diamonds, because they're just grassy areas with a fence for guarding foul balls) and one soccer field. With all the work they've been doing for this park, it's not perfect. The (one and only) bathrooms are usually a mess, the pavilion is old (as in, been there since I was a kid with the only repair being a paint job), the only thing you'll be doing on that basketball court is shooting baskets and the exercise break areas on the walking path are either fine or in poor shape. Aside from those issues though, this is a great place to take the kids for bike riding or playing on the playground equipment. But if you're looking for a more sports orientated park, I would suggest going to Wallace Park instead (just north of this park on Hwy 81).
