The ice cream is average at best and expensive- especially when you receive 1/2 scoops instead of a whole scoop. Priced on the higher end and not exactly worth the price. They used to sell their duck food for 50 cents each (very small little bags by the register) and in two years time I guess inflation has made the shop need to charge $2 for each bag- a huge disappointment and rip off. Sad that they have to charge so much for ice cream and duck food- I'm guessing maybe they need to in order to stay open.

Great Service, But a West Coast Palate Had Trouble Adjusting…read more My husband and I decided to try Rustic Taco Bar during Canal Days, hoping for a taste of our former home on the West Coast. First off, I want to give a huge shout-out to the staff. The service was truly great--super friendly and attentive, especially considering how busy it was during the festival. We really appreciated how welcoming they were. However, we found the food to be a bit of a culture shock for our palates. We understand there are regional differences, and for us, this was very different from the Mexican food we're used to. The tacos were served on flour tortillas that, since they weren't freshly made, could have really benefited from being heated or toasted on the grill to give them a better texture and taste. The biggest surprise for us was the filling. We've learned that "beef" on the East Coast often means ground beef, which was very odd for us in a taco, as we were expecting carne asada. It brought back memories of childhood taco nights rather than the street tacos we know and love. The salsa was just okay; for us, it was really missing that punch of salt and a fresh squeeze of lime juice that makes a salsa pop. Overall, the people were wonderful, but the food just didn't quite hit the mark for our West Coast tastes. If you're not used to SoCal-style Mexican food, you might enjoy this more than we did. For us, it was a reminder that we're a long way from San Diego!

I wasn't sure about the sauce so they offered to let me sample all of them. So nice! The Buffalo is a bit spicy. The Original is a bit vinegar-y. He suggested I try their Ranch sauce, which is homemade. I'm a sucker for a good homemade Ranch and I'm a real sauce whore. This was delicious! It doesn't taste exactly like Ranch. I'd call it a delicious white mayonnaise-y sauce but sooooo good. I thought: if I was drunk, this would literally be the best food I've ever eaten right now! They're a new business. Give them a try!

Once we confirmed a date and time, we notice communication was a huge issue with this caterer. It would take over a week to get a menu confirmation back and then with changes to the menu, another week etc. The same excuse every time, "too busy" or "running to an event". Eventually after a month of trying to get a menu together, the gentleman in charge gave us some attitude about us trying to confirm in a timely manner since the party was coming up. After all this, we decided not to move forward with them. Found a better caterer for the exact same menu and half the price. Update: see attached pictures, we were in communication and I definitely have the right company. Regardless, it was not an enjoyable experience.

All my appetizers came beautifully plated with hand written tags on each cheese item. The tray covers were wrapped with coordinated ribbon to go with the color scheme of the wedding. Kevin made sure that we had plenty of food to feed our small Covid wedding of 60 people. No one left hungry that's for sure! And there were no left overs sorry to say but is a good thing. Kevin's staff delivery was super friendly and the set up was a breeze considering how Hot it was outside 85 ! Kevin made sure that he had cold bags for the food with ice packs in each bag so all the foods were kept cold as we only served cold appetizers at the wedding. Kevin was Super to work with and extremely helpful in the choosing of what would work best for our daughters wedding. I am Highly recommending you choose Tasteful Events for your next gathering you will NOT be disappointed! Thank you Kevin for the Outstanding food and attention to detail in what you do. We will be using this caterer from now on !!!
