Listen. You've got to have the "Dirty Dancing" mindset when you go into this. Follow me here…read more... Our room was straight out of Dirty Dancing. Outdated is an understatement. BUT - it was clean, it was comfortable, and it was oddly charming, in a nostalgic way. I booked directly with the owners, by (nostalgia #1) TELEPHONE (although you can use booking.com, but I've heard from other hotel owners that it's kind of complicated and a pain.) There aren't room "options" from what I can tell, so it makes me think each one has 2 full size beds. The bedspread are outdated, the bathroom is way outdated, the TV was enormous (and I'm not talking screen) and it had a small table with two chairs and a mini fridge, and STILL plenty of room. It reminded me of places my family used to stay on vacation when I was young (nostalgia #2) In fact, it's probably a great place for a family to stay! There's a door to the parking lot, and a door to a deck with plastic chairs that overlooks a lake (Loon Lake, I believe.) While we didn't get to explore the entire establishment, the grounds looked beautiful. Also, the owners are a delight. I chatted all about kids and NYC and covid and travel with them, long enough that my husband came looking for me! Hopefully, when covid relaxes and my kiddo is a little older, we can come stay for a proper weekend trip, and I'll catch Swayze and J Grey in their finale performance.... This is a perfect family nostalgia getaway spot, OR ironic hipster overnight. Go!!

My friends and I decided to go to The Lodge on Harrisburg Lake for our annual cottage trip. This…read morelocation was chosen purely because it was halfway between both groups of people coming (in between Montreal and New York). If you are arriving there after work try to get there before it gets dark because finding the location in the mountains was quite tricky at night. THE CHALET: The Lodge has a few chalets and a main lodge with rooms. We rented out Chalet Wolf which sleeps 12 guests for 3 nights. It was only $200 per night and we had 10 people. The chalet itself was a lot bigger and nicer than we expected, the photos on their website does not do it justice. It has 3 stories, large parking space (can fit 3 cars). The kitchen was huge with all the equipment you will need, also had a BBQ on the patio. There 2 baths + 1 washroom, and many rooms with beds, it comfortably slept the 10 of us. AMENITIES: The lodge itself has a restaurant/bar where you will often find the owner, and his friendly Dalmation. There is a pool (not heated), pool and ping pong tables at the bar, a basketball and a tennis court. There is a small lake in walking distance, where you can ask the owner for his canoes, kayak and pedal boat (all free of charge). The lodge is surrounded by lots of space, we think it used to be a ranch of some sort, where we tossed around a frisbee. SERVICE: The owner is Polish and we believe he manages the business with his family. He is extremely friendly and helpful. We asked him for things like a large pot (to cook curry) and he got it for us right away. LOCATION: The location is right at the Adirondack mountains. We did not go exploring but it is a very quiet and spacious cottage country. There are also hiking trails but you need to drive there (~5km away). There is also a town not very far away where you can buy groceries but everything closes very early. The only complaint would be the amount of mosquitos/flies. It can be very overwhelming. We continuously drenched ourselves in mosquito repellant and wore clothing to cover but even then the deer flies (or whatever they are) had a good feast with us. The bites can get very irritating. All in all we had a lot of fun at this trip and best of all it was very affordable for the quality of the stay. I would definitely recommend for a large group of friends or families to stay at Chalet Wolf. They also have smaller and bigger chalets.

Just got back from a 4 day stay with my husband, 2 toddlers and mom. We rented the Chalet Loon. 4…read moreBR, 3 bath, 3 levels, big deck, fully stocked kitchen, bbq, private fire pit. Great WiFi inside. Small tv/dvd player. Spacious, decorated simple and warm. The bedroom windows had little or no covering which made sleeping difficult. My kids were up at first light. Next time we stay we will be bringing sleep masks. Water pressure was great! Super hot water too. The staff are all extremely friendly and warm. They even had our chalet ready for us 4 hours early. We had dinner at the lodge one night. It was amazing! The Italian wedding soup...I had 3 bowls. My husband loved the cutlets and the chunky mashed potatoes were so delicious. And it was enough to feed an army. Everything is home made and extremely fresh. Comfort food. We also had breakfast the day we left. The pancakes were sensational. Bacon, eggs...absolutely delicious. There are a lot of bugs. A lot. Bring bug spray. The lake is absolutely beautiful and clean. Be prepared it is a steep short walk down a hill. My mother got winded on the way back up (she is a smoker). We ended up driving a little further down the road to a spot where we could drive up to so she wouldn't be left out. We will definitely be back. We really liked not being in Lake George which is a tourist trap. It was quiet and we had beautiful weather so we were able to be outside a lot. We loved the charm of the place as well as the staff. We loved having our own private house and the price is unbeatable. We packed (almost) everything we needed so we wouldn't have to do the long drive to town. Of course I forgot batteries and we had to do it. After we checked out we ended up heading to lake George to waste time and avoid traffic. It was so overwhelming and overstimulating after being in such a serene place at the lodge that we couldn't wait to leave. Thank you for such a great relaxing stay. We can't wait to be back!

I came here to ski on a Thursday morning. I was able to easily park in the main parking lot and…read morewalk to the lodge which was within a reasonable distance. Parking was free. From the main lodge are a couple of very short and slow lifts that take you up to areas which give you access to additional lifts. I really liked the variety of runs and that it wasn't overcrowded. I would love to try some of the other sections of the mountain in the future. The terrain park looks fun (if you're into that). My only complaint was how slow most of the lifts are... but that didn't detract much from my overall experience.

I have skied Okemo Mountain Resort several times during my road trips to Vermont. Okemo is part of…read morethe Epic Pass resorts owned by Vail which means that if you buy a pass early you can get skiing a reasonable rate, in 2026 the multiday pass was about $75 a day. Getting to the resort is easy, it is located just off the main street of Ludlow, Vt., which was about a 30 minute drive from where we were staying in Londonderry, Vt. There are a number of parking lots; both days we arrived early so we had a choice of the 2 free lots near the base area. Equipment drop off is easy and the walk from the lots is not too far. The biggest issue is to get through the resort to the base lodge entails quite a lot of stairs. The lodge itself is what you would expect, nothing fancy but more than serviceable. The restrooms and changing areas are downstairs, which is made a bit harder by the angled staircase, which can be a bit challenging when you are in ski boots. The changing areas have seasonal lockers, rental lockers and free racks for bag storage which is appreciated. At the base lodge you have 2 lifts that take you up the beginner area and allows you to access the rest of the mountain. The main lift for the main face is a high speed 6 pack with ubble covers for the chairs. From the top you can make it to the other areas of the mountain. We skied all of the areas of the resort the Main Face, the South Face, Solitude and Jackson Gore. Okemo is great for cruising the Blues and groomed Black runs. Even though the conditions were icy and not everything was open Okemo provides plenty of variety and skiing. I really enjoy skiing at Okemo, the mountain is pretty easy to navigate. There are a wide variety of runs especially for intermediate skiers. A really fun and enjoyable couple of days skiing.
