Two months ago when I registered for camp for this summer, I thought everything was set. However, I just found out that the registration system lets you register for CLOSED sessions. You go all the way through the system and you have just registered for a CLOSED session. You even get a confirmation email (ok, I didn't read line 12 of the confirmation email where it says "waitlist" for status - I just read the top that let's you know you successfully completed registration). Getting your children's summer plans set is a huge task for parents. Sending your kid to a camp that's a four hour plane ride is a big leap. If you can't trust the administrative and operations side of a camp to do things right, how can you feel good about the rest of the experience.

Our older kid often doesn't want to come home at the end of the day! The teachers are so kind and caring and patient (with us and the kids) every morning they seem genuinely excited to see them and we get pictures and updates every day. We love that our kids are learning a second language at such a young age too. It is a little more expensive than some of the other options we considered, but they have a lot of other benefits (like included lunch for the big kid and cloth diapers for the baby). And we feel like it's incredibly valuable to get the benefits of language immersion.

The center has been absolutely wonderful to our family as our son transitioned from his time abroad. He has thrived in the pre-kinder room where imagination is encouraged and play is part of the curriculum. He does this all in Spanish. We are a bilingual family, but our son's friends come from diverse backgrounds and all Spanish language levels and the teachers adapt to each and every child in the room. His main teacher makes time to speak with me every evening at pickup and the cultural nights are a wonderful opportunity to meet your child's friends' families and discover (with delight) that your child can tell you about the Andes mountains or sing you a song in Spanish. In two weeks they open their brand new site in Roseville, MN. They've shared the journey with the families at the community, and we can already tell that the new space is going to be an even more inviting, vibrant space where your children will discover the world around them right in the outskirts of Minneapolis. Despite two earlier parent reports of potential abuse, it wasn't until the third and fourth parent reports after the teacher had been there nearly seven months that the center finally sufficiently investigated the situation and removed the teacher. The owner also discourages parents from communicating with each other about childcare issues at the center. For example, after the abuse was discovered, the owner sent a message to parents instructing them not to "gossip" about it.

We were able to reserve the whole right side of the cafe, which was great because we had a surprising number of guests. The open tab at the cafe was great so all our adult friends could caffeinate and chase their young ones around. There was plenty of space to play and extra rooms for coats and gifts. The staff was lovely. I don't think they were totally informed on what the cafe was meant to provide for the party, as plates and cutlery were a bit of a scramble for a few moments (in the party info it mentioned these would be provided). But honestly it wasn't a big deal at all as the two people running the cafe were more than happy to help accommodate us in any way they could. I think we were supposed to do a craft, but that never happened. I'm sure if I had mentioned it one of the staff members would've organized the activity but honestly, trying to wrangle a bunch of 2-4 year olds to focus on one task would've been a nightmare. All in all, I think Rebe's is fantastic value for a birthday party. We had 36 adults/kids, rented out the entire righthand side of the cafe, and provided coffees/drinks/snacks. The total was less than $400. My daughter can't wait to go back and play more!
