I'm happy that a glittery window display caught not only my eye but my cousin's too as she and I were strolling down Charles St. What we noticed in particular were some stunning pieces of vintage jewelry. We discovered that in addition to some beautiful pieces of antique furniture and some exquisite oil paintings, Bridge Antiques has quite an impressive collection of antique jewelry both fine and faux. On that day last summer, my cousin ended up buying an intriguing and quite bold emerald ring from Turkey with mysterious designs and inlays that included evil eyes. It needed a bit of work from her jeweler at home to restore some aspects of it but she did get a great deal. Respectful bargaining on price seems to be okay here. When she wears that ring now it is out of this world different and attention grabbing. The owner is a pleasant woman with an adorable dog that sometimes keeps her company in the shop. She doesn't mind folks like me who browse for a long time. She will happily take anything you might want to see out of a case for a try-on. Some other shops on Beacon Hill suffer from the snob factor but that's not an issue here so it's a comfortable experience. While things can be pricey, the quality of most things seems quite good. Not to undermine the furniture and art here, most of which is lovely, for me this has become the place to check out the antique jewelry. It's not to be missed if you are a fan of jewelry that comes with history.

The…read moreowner, Barbara, finds all kinds of prints which she slips into mats and frames, resulting in some charming collectibles for your walls. She has them well organized so if you are searching for something related to Fish, Fashion or Fall River, you can find it easily. Just look under F. It's really Fun searching for topics that are meaningful for you or a Family member. Many of the prints are related to Boston and its various neighborhoods. With some priced at $25, you can find a fun souvenir. You'll see men with mutton chops, women in hoop skirts, old newspaper articles and views of the city from long ago. You'll also find a wide assortment of maps and some old books. None of this is very valuable and many of the prints are taken directly from the pages of books, but you'll be happy with your little treat. And if you buy one for a gift, the recipient will be happy, too, unless they were hoping for a Red Sox jersey, a box of salt water taffy or some Sam Adams coasters.

Likely I'll need to go back several more times before I can actually say I've seen the entire gallery, by then I'm sure Barbara (the owner) will have made many more purchases. Anyway, the gallery isn't as big as I'm certain my review has made it sound, but there's a lot of art! Art on the walls, on shelves, in boxes, drawers...but at the same time its well organized and not cluttered. I also really love the diversity. There's not just one theme going on here...different era's, genres, styles. It really is a gem on Charles St.
