Brilliant little business and one I'm dead happy to have so close to home!…read more This place is just down the road from my house and houses loads and loads of great wines. You can get wines just for a quiet night in or an expensive bottle for a nice gift! The staff are really knowledgable so don't hesitate in asking for advise! Perfect for birthday and christmas presents as they have other wine-related things that are great as gifts. Perhaps the best bit is they do wine tasting and educational classes very often! Another perfect idea for a present or for a nice evening with a friend/partner - definitely recommend!

Such a wide selection, impossible not to find something to suit your tastes. My husband and I were bought tickets to one of the wine tasting events, a great way to sample familiar and new wines and I would highly recommend. There is a separate room at the back set up for the wine tasting events and cheese and crackers are provided. There was no pressure to buy the wines sampled, the staff just want you to enjoy your evening and share their knowledge of wine with you.

It does what it says on the tin it sells alcohol, cigarettes and the usual staples but if you are looking for specific items you are better off going to a supermarket. The biggest advantage of having this shop so close is the cash machine even if it does seem to go against the grain to have to pay almost £2 to access your own money!

Well if you can't steal a Withnail & I quote from time to time then the world is a bad place. So in search of said wine I went to Czerwik. What a wonderful emporium. For me combining two of my favourite vices, cheese and wine, is actually a dangerous move because I am a picky customer. However, the expert advice and products firmly delivered. It's an independent family run business that has been established for over 15 years and it shows. There are loads of wines to get your head around, including one of my favourites Cloudy Bay. Don't be afraid to ask as they'll point you in the right direction. If you like beer then that is pretty much covered too. As for the cheese well that also ticks all the boxes. They have a dedicated cheesemonger (yes I know I love that word too, so say it loud and proud) with over 160 farmhouse cheeses kept in prime conditions for that perfect dairy hit. Oh and if you like to get all James Bond baddie then check out the Polish vodkas. I'll have some more of this please, shaken not stirred.

Czerwik's don't have *any* pre packaged cheese, so you know you are in for a treat here. Its not only cheese though they have a huge wine cellar, extensive beer selection, all your usual deli fare and one of the best Whiskey selections you'll find anywhere. If you live in the Cleckhuddersfax region and you haven't been to Czerwik's, get yourself down there immediately. Now I understood that when I was a student for example. I never bothered going into Harvey Nichols or any other shop for that matter where I knew it was too expensive for me. There was no point!!!!! So DONT bother going in if its too expensive and whinging about the price!!!!!!! Harvey Nick's Second Floor Restaurant, Bar and Brasserie is actually great, especially with Head Chef Stuart Thomson's award-winning menu. I feel like a kid in a sweet shop everytime I am there, they stock stuff you just can't buy in most other places. Get some food fro the deli and sit and watch the exchange square world go by....ahhhh bliss!!! Right next door is a massive wine colleciton for you should you decide to sample some while you're there. Apparently it's one of the most extensive wine lists in Manchester. Located on the second floor of the posh department store, the Foodmarket is packed floor to ceiling with thousands of the company's own products packaged in their iconic silver tins and bottles with slick black and white photos. There's everything you could want from whole hampers to tea, coffee, shortbread, pickles and chutneys. At the back of the store, there's a small deli counter that stocks fresh cheese, parma ham, pasta and other delicacies, a luxury wine and champagne counter, a tiny bakery section with freshly baked bread and a wee grocery section selling organic fruit and veg. If they extended these sections I'd probably visit more but as it is, the Foodmarket is too limited and too damn eXpensive.

They have a huge range of beers, ranging from their own cask ales, to some rather interesting craft bottles which different fruity flavours. The last time I visited was over Christmas so they had 2 different types of hot cider on. I opted for the Mulled Cider and it was absolutely spot on after getting in from the nippy Bolton weather. Don't expect fancy decor and modern interior, Bank Top is a traditional Bolton pub and I personally think that makes it better. There's a great mix of Bank Top's own ales, such as the firm favourite 'Flat Cap', as well as newer additions such as 'Gold Digger' (which has a very amusing tale behind it which should only be told by the patrons and bar staff of the pub) as well as some great guest ales. It is out of town, but definitely worth a visit - a taxi from Bolton town centre should cost around £4. When a pair of fine ales cost less than that, it is well worth going along. Bank Top is Bolton's local brewer and was set up in the '90s in an old (and very handsome) tennis pavillion. Trivia fans will be pleased to know that the first pint ever poured at the brewery was by Bill Tarmey who of course played Rover's Return landlord, Jack Duckworth. The pub itself is very homely and will look better when it ages slightly (it is still a bit neat, but that's a very very small gripe). There's also a decent sized beer garden which is great on balmy days. It really is a fantastic pub and well worth the trip.

The only problem was that due to the restaurants open design, noise (talking) carried throughout the whole place making the environment quite noisy and it did make me feel like I was in a nightclub talking to your friends but without the music! In Rawtenstall, the food has been reportedly inconsistent for the last 10 years or so, yet on the handful of occasions that I visited their now 'flagship' establishment, I personally never had a 'bad' meal there. And so, being in the area, I visited this one. Just over the road from the newly refurbed Kettledrum Inn, this restaurant is impressive from the outside and the interior doesn't disappoint, either. It is tastefully decorated, and there is entertainment on at weekends and (I believe) on certain weekdays/nights too. The atmosphere is pleasant and service is quite good. The food is of a decent standard, though unfortunately there is nothing to really set it apart from the many other Italian restaurants I have visited, and it is quite high end price-wise, too. That's about it - nothing really to write home about, but not too bad either. If you're passing and you're starving, or if you want to impress a date with the size of your wallet, drop in here.
