My 5 star rating comes from a recent experience we had in the store. My family member recalled out of the blue that they had once dropped off a piece of art and had it spec'd here roughly ten years ago but had forgotten to follow up. Most of us feared that the piece had most likely been forgotten or otherwise lost in some way. Without a receipt or paper record, there would be little chance of finding the painting... or so we thought. Upon arriving at Old Town Art & Framery after ten years, my relative was greeted by Marcy, who not only remembered his full name, but also the artist of the painting and where it was stored! 10 minutes later we had the painting in hand and fresh plans to continue the framing efforts! Thanks, Marcy!

This was the go to shop in Fort Collins for years. Sadly Marcy ( who is just a gifted framer & a…read morenice person) is gone & this shop has changed owners. I brought an original piece of western art in for reframing, mainly because Marcy helped frame another painting years ago & did an exceptional job. BIG mistake! First, the owner handled my art without wearing protective gloves and second, many of the moldings that were chosen were out of stock so a huge waste of time. She also took personal cell phone calls while I just stood there, as if my time and business were not the priority. I felt incredibly disrespected during the entire process and should have bailed right away, but again, I think I was still not fully aware that this shop had taken such a dive. Then there was the price. All framing is pricey, but this was outrageous. She quoted me $1400.00 . I decided to just do it as I had a time constraint , but later found the original frame & decided to tweak that. She was very rude about that even though it was the same day. It took over 3 weeks to complete a VERY simple job. Yeah, won't be back! So disappointing . A total waste of time, emotions and money.

I'd been hearing a lot about Mike at Otteman Arts in Loveland, CO…read more I had a framed mirror that had one of the corners come loose making it look like one more bump and the mirror would come crashing out of the frame. The half inch gap in the joint made it look pretty ragged; certainly not like anything any of us would want hanging on our wall. Mike is quite the craftsman when it comes to frames and what I got back resulted in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo1LzQ7PYJE It also had a marred finish. Mike is an artist that studied at University of Denver and when he told me he could repair the finish, I pretty much believed him. When I got this mirror back, this video is of the result of his artistic work on the finish of the frame: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCRL6Q_vaUU Not only did he do a super job of retouching the finish and repairing the loose joint, but, the frame came back to me with these attached. A very nice touch indeed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kmJBdzAb4g I put this last video in the "News" category at YouTube because I think it is news whenever you find a craftsman that is as service-minded as Mike Otteman at Otteman Arts in Loveland, Colorado. PS: If for some reason Yelp makes these video links unclickable and you would like to see them, search in YouTube.com for Loveland CO custom frame repair.

You can find a beautiful and SAFE (battery operated) glowing, bedside LED candle. You can discover the perfect shade of paint to revive that old, ratty-looking bookshelf. 'Even create a D-I-Y project, leaving you truly proud of the results, suddenly realizing that you DO actually have some "handyman skills" you might have been a bit intimidated to try out. Or, you can upgrade ho-hum holiday decorations, 'making your window displays the talk of the town. Perhaps you simply need an attractive bag/gift wrapping option for a sentimental gift for someone special. I shop at Michael's for all of the above purposes. The photos I'm including with this post illustrate just a couple of the "upgrades" Michael's has assisted me with regarding my home decor. The candle & oval wire sconce/holder were purchased at M.'s, at a very reasonable price, & now the Feng Shui of my home has, indeed, been altered positively (*or so I'm told). :) The orchid-wrapped branches in the brown vase were also purchased there, and can be beautifully lit by simply plugging in the vase. (*My camera didn't capture the brilliance of the lit flowers with the flash, so I photographed it 'un-lit'). The luminous, turquoise-colored fabric underneath my HD television box is also from Michael's. It upgraded something as simple as a basic, electronics and TV stand into a colorful, elegant-looking area (at least one that's better than a bundle of cords, 'tucked behind a flat screen TV stand-and the color enhances my room colors beautifully). Michael's has a constantly evolving inventory, filled with creative crafting supplies as well as beautiful, finished items (such as the unique, rounded, bronze-patina, hanging candle sconce-'of which I posted a photo). M.'s price points are definitely competitive. All you need to do is walk the aisles, view the copious amounts of inviting merchandise, and truly, the ONLY limits are your creativity and imagination. You can improve your home overall, turn your bedroom into a sacred and cozy space, bring a classy vibe to furniture, art projects, photo albums, and gift wrapping...or even create/upgrade a bird bath (*IF that's truly your 'thing'. 'No judgement-I've seen many a magnificent bird bath. It's just not me). ;) 'Bottom line, Michael's delivers quality merchandise at a great price, and as a bonus, has just updated its return policy. You now have 6 months (it used to be 14 days) to have your receipt remain "valid", meaning a necessary return or a changed mind will NOT limit your ability to return or exchange an item(s). You can decide, in person, how an item fits along with your home design, match paint for your craft project, or simply decide that your talents may not fit the items you originally purchased, and still experience a hassle-free return or exchange process. Now THAT's a classy, legitimate, and ethical business model; and as a consumer, makes Michael's my #1 store for virtually limitless decor items, crafts, home projects, and even holiday and event-related items. ***Tip: M.'s actually also has a HUGE wedding section, 'complete with silk-flowered hair pieces, lace cornered guest books, and garter-shaped confetti...!?!). 'Pretty amazing and DEFINITELY creative. Add the friendly, knowledgable employees and a competitive pricing/return policy, and Michael's is a no-brainer to be your NUMBER ONE selection as a comprehensive, creative, home/artistic/decor and event supplier. Shopping at Michael's pretty much equals a lifestyle upgrade: it just depends on which area you want to begin with!
