We visited for the first time recently for a wedding. The venue is very classy and beautiful. The wedding ceremony, cocktails/appetizers, and reception were all in the same building which was convenient. I'm not sure if the bartenders and servers worked for the mansion or were outsourced however they were very professional and provided great service. read more

My friend and his finance got married here! The mansion was beautiful and the setup was great. The ceremony was outside, the reception was on the patio and partially inside, and the reception was outside in a tent with a dance floor. The venue was beautiful, the service was excellent and the catering service was on point. We had lobster and steak :) The whole wedding came together nicely. There was lots of room and the view of the golf course was a nice backdrop for photos. read more

From the very first meeting with the Reggie Lemelin, the director of membership sales, I knew this place was top shelf. Reggie made me feel immediately welcome and put no pressure on "closing the deal". Through Reggie, prospective members are introduced to other established members and you're well on your way to making great new friendships. The golf course is immaculate with the finest greens in the state. The layout is fair but puts a premium on shot placement with challenging pin locations. The superintendent knows his craft as well as the game and keeps the course in spectacular shape. Great views throughout the course with some of the highest vistas of Essex County. Not a walking course by any means as elevation changes and green to tee distances can be a challenge. If you get an invite, don't miss the opportunity. read more

I like to tell people that I knew my wedding venue before I knew my groom. That is because I knew the moment I laid eyes on The Mansion on Turner Hill 6 years ago that I would someday host my wedding there. Carol Travers and the staff at Turner Hill literally made my dreams come true. First of all, Vinwood caterers are incredible. They use the freshest ingredients and are so accommodating of allergies and special diets, you would think they knew each guest personally. Turner Hill partners exclusively with Vinwood and after sampling a meal with them, it is evident why. Their service and their food are unbeatable. Carol Travers is this venue's built in wedding planner. She is an absolute angel. Carol has been doing weddings at Turner Hill for years and she has gotten it down to a science. She's quick to respond to emails, she is eager to fulfill any and all requests and she is prepared to do what is necessary to make your big day run as smoothly as possible. It rained on our wedding day, and Carol and the staff at Turner Hill were able to coordinate an indoor ceremony for 200+ guests in the main ballroom, and then in a matter of hours prepare the same room for dessert and dancing. She is amazing. As I mentioned before, it rained on our wedding day. For most brides, this would be an absolute nightmare. Thankfully this was not the case for me. Turner Hill is so elegant and beautiful on its own that the news that we would need indoor photos and ceremony were not a disappointment. I was most nervous about the weather at dinnertime as we planned to eat outside in the tent. It poured. The tent was so sturdy and insulated, that if it weren't for the claps of thunder and flashes of lightning, you would have never known that it was anything but a clear night. I could ramble on for days about every flawless detail of our wedding day, but I will leave you with this; If you choose Turner Hill for your venue, you will not be let down. I recently got married at Turner Hill and it was just incredible. I-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e. Honestly, I cannot imagine a better place to have a wedding, and my wife and I looked at a number of places before settling on Turner Hill. Turner Hill is particularly good for larger events (we had over 200 guests), but can also service smaller events. It's an old mansion (like the Crane Estate), but this place seems to have been designed for weddings or special events. Most old mansions have multiple smaller rooms, but Turner Hill has a huge ballroom that can accommodate a band and a dance floor for a large event (there are also cool smaller rooms - smoking room for the groom - changing room for the bride - library for dessert, etc.). I have to hand it to Carol Travers, who coordinated our wedding (her cost is included in the facility fee). I have never seen someone so unflappable in organizing, finding people, getting the right people to the right places at exactly the right times, and making sure that everyone knew exactly what they were supposed to be doing. The whole thing just went off like clockwork with no need for any concern by the guests. She was very flexible in everything we wanted to do (we held a simultanous party for the kids of our guests in the groom's changing room, for example). We had the ceremony outside in the garden, which is a great location. The rain location is inside the mansion, which would have also been great (only we lucked out and had perfect weather). Because there are a variety of large spaces (the garden can accommodate over 200, the tent can accommodate up to 250, and the mansion can accommodate around 150 seated, but many more standing) we were able to have a variety of locations, all of which were very fun and interesting for our guests. Honestly, I have been at many weddings where people leave early, but everyone was rocking on all the way to the end. Architect friends were racing around the mansion trying to see all of the intricacies of its gilded-era designs, photographic friends were trying to capture all the beautiful grounds and lighting, active friends were jamming to the music in the great hall, cozy friends were chatting in the luxurious library, and my more relaxed friends were just hanging out on the patio, taking in the surroundings. We are still getting notes from our guests thanking us for being invited to the wedding. More than I ever would have imagined said that it was the best wedding they had ever attended. To be honest, we didn't really go all-out on the food. I hear about these weddings that spend huge amounts on fireworks, caviar, sushi, and the like. We didn't have anything like that. Just the beautiful venue and having everything work perfectly is enough to make the event incredible. Vinwood Caterers comes with the place, but don't worry, the food is spectacular (even though I had to run around at the event, I tried to make sure that I tasted everything). They have a deal with Turner Hill, which limits your choice in caterers, but allows them to be super-familiar with how everything is set up and how they are supposed to act. Since Turner Hill has grills and kitchens onsite, Vinwood is able to prepare huge amounts of food right onsite and serve it up fresh immediately when it is done, and you can definitely taste the difference! We looked at the Crane Estate too (it is also in Ipswich) and decided that Turner Hill would be way better (one, it is cheaper. two, it accommodates more guests. three, a tent is already onsite. four, Turner Hill is just as beautiful). The Crane Estate has that one great view to the sea, which makes for a few good pictures, but its not worth the money or the hassle. Go to Turner Hill instead. You absolutely won't regret it. read more

I was really excited to see this beautiful venue for my wedding, but unfortunately Carol Travers was unresponsive. I emailed her, filled out the online inquiry form, and even left her a voicemail...and no response after 3 weeks. It is too bad that the venue will lose interested customers because of terrible sales service. The last thing any bride needs in planning a wedding is an unresponsive event coordinator. I recently got married at Turner Hill - it was absolutely beautiful. And although it was my own wedding, if I do say so myself, it was the most beautiful wedding I've ever been to (and many of our guests made the same comment!). We had an indoor-outdoor wedding (it could have been indoor only if the weather was bad, but we lucked out) - a ceremony outside, a tent with tables for dinner outside and inside dancing in the ballroom. The mansion is very spacious with room for the guests to roam around. Inside is air conditioned and comfortable. We had 212 people and we could have had more (originally we thought 250). Vinwood Caterers are the caterers for Turner Hill, and they were terrific - the food was delicious and freshly prepared, the serving of the food was fast (not too fast, but dinner didn't take too long so there was plenty of time to party and dance) and the servers were friendly and helpful. The moment I arrived I felt like everything was going to be fine and taken care of, and it was. People were working on making sure everything was done and it was all ready to go by the time the guests arrived. Carol Travers is the wedding coordinator, and she helped with everything. In the final couple of weeks she was always available on email or phone to help us out with the last minute planning and decisions and she helped us to coordinate with the caterers. If you're looking for a beautiful place to hold your wedding, I would highly recommend Turner Hill! read more

The Mansion and the grounds are beautiful, the food was terrific, and Carol Travers and her staff were incredible from our first meeting right through to the end of the reception!
