The front leads into a reception area, and she used a chunk of it to get a photo booth for the night. Go a little further and there's a small bar on the left, some seating on the back wall, and on the right an entire dance floor (or space to set up seating) and slightly raised stage. She hired a DJ and had some catered hors d'oeuvres on tables between the bar and dance floor. The folks at the bar were nice and it wasn't stupidly expensive if you wanted to get a mixed drink. The venue had some really nice textures and lighting (separate from my friend's over the top decor) that made it feel more upscale in a college town. I have no idea what it cost her or how easy it was to coordinate with the venue, but as a guest I had a great time! The only downside is you'll likely have to circle around a couple times for street parking if you don't want to pay for the garages nearby.

The barn was great, spacious, well decorated and not run down at all. I can imagine it being a great venue for many occasions. There was another building right next to the barn, not sure what it would be called. It was also very nice. It was much bigger than the barn, but had less charm. Overall it was a great venue, and definitely a great place to think about hosting future events. If anyone is having a wedding- this would be a great place to do it!

This is a historic landmark well over 100 years old which was originally a private residence, then a hotel, a community college and now a cultural community center in the heart of Gainesville. The Center has a beautiful courtyard, sprawling trees, manicured lawns, elegant architecture, and plenty of space for large groups. The Thomas Center also boasts two art galleries and open cultural center available for all who come to this quaint college town. They offer seasonal concerts, community guided tours and self-guided garden tours. Overall, a wonderful gem in downtown Gainesville. If you ever get a chance to come here for any reason, definitely go. It's one of the hidden treasures of this town and must be experienced to really appreciate it.

Anyway, it's a great venue for a wedding reception if you have no more than about 120 people. That's about how many we had and while it didn't feel too crowded, it wasn't far off. There is a stage and projection area that makes for a nice DJ setup and a large side room that worked perfectly for a food/bar area. The building is about 80 years old from what I understand, but it's very well maintained and has a nice charm. We actually also took Christmas pictures here last year so it's a nice multipurpose stop :) My only gripe about the wedding reception experience was the woman we had to organize the reservation with. She was nearly impossible to get in touch with and impossible to understand once we finally talked to her. I'm not knocking the fact that she's an older lady, but they could at least put someone in charge that's a little more competent and friendly. If we weren't aggressive about booking the place it never would've happened. We had the reception on a Saturday but she wouldn't let us pick up the key to the building a day early because we weren't officially reserving it until Saturday. It would've been nice to do some early setup since no one was using the building the day before. All in all, the experience was worth it and I would do it again. It just didn't go off without pitfalls.
