After…read moreremoving the old patio, they discovered a drainage pipe problem that they offered to fix (for a significant amount of additional money, of course). When I agreed, they started digging right away without calling OUPS to have property marked for existing utilities (as required by Ohio Revised Code). As a result, they damaged my high voltage electric line which ultimately cost me $6500 to fix. They refused to cover even half of that cost and acted very unprofessionally. So, while they ultimately did a good job on patio replacement, I observed their tendency to cutting corners and not following the proper procedures. This resulted in a very poor price to value ratio of their service to me. I would not recommend them to anybody.

The price was right in-line with the other estimates I received. A few weeks later, I had the work done. North Coast Masonry arrived early on the scheduled date and finished in a timely manner. Their work looked superb. They also went the extra mile and kept the areas around the house clean, even hosing down the area to keep the dust to a minimum. I'll definitely be looking to hire them again if I need any more work done!

The Tuesday before the work was to begin on that Saturday, I texted him to see if we were still on for Saturday, he said yes. The Thursday before the job, he reached out to say he couldn't do the job because my concrete pad and sandstone treads may be damaged and could cost an additional $500. So I asked are you not honoring our contract? He then said he wanted to come out and discuss in person. We set a day and time 8am. I waited and he didn't show, so I thought. At 7:57 he had texted me that I stiffed him and the contract was null and void. I asked him if he knocked, as I was home, car in driveway and everything. He still refused the work. I was so disappointed at the treatment from his company. Why would you send out someone to give an estimate that was apparently not qualified to do so. I would rate a zero if it was available. (I didn't see his text until 8:07)

I contracted DeFazio Company to install a privacy fence, and the entire experience was frustrating…read moreand unprofessional. After weeks of poor communication and multiple follow-ups on my part, the crew finally showed up on September 17th with less than an hour's notice. The owner, Nick, called me irate about our "newly installed lawn" -- even though he knew about it, had been on the property on August 27th, and we had already discussed sprinkler shutoffs in advance. His tone was so aggressive that I felt threatened and uncomfortable speaking with him, and from that point forward I directed him to communicate with my husband instead. The crew left, then later returned to begin installation. The foreman admitted that the wet ground was actually caused by a neighbor's sprinklers, not ours, and was segregated to a small portion of the yard. Despite assurances that excess dirt would be raked out along the fence line and moved to low spots throughout the yard (and any remaining dirt to be placed along the side of the house), they left a truckload of dirt in the middle of our backyard and did not rake any dirt out along the fence line. On top of that, the double gates were installed backwards after having in depth conversations about how to install the gates and which side on the double gate would be the main door. The excessive conversations happened mid-install when we were told that if the double gate is installed on the side of the house we originally requested, it would be installed 8 to 12 inches off the ground (obviously unacceptable to all parties). When I raised concerns, the company agreed to fix the gates but ignored the issue with the dirt. Instead, they demanded the remainder of the payment and even came to my front door during the workday to collect, despite the job being unfinished and not as agreed. In the end, I had to rent equipment and spend my own time moving the dirt myself as well as contracting a lawn care specialist to replant the grass that was mutilated from the large pile of dirt left in the center of our yard. This was an unprofessional and disappointing experience. I have attempted to speak with DeFazio Company regarding these issues, but they have continued to demand payment without the willingness to work towards a resolution. I expect my final balance to be adjusted to reflect the work I had to do myself, along with a formal acknowledgment of their mishandling of the project. If this occurs, I will update my review to acknowledge this.
