A great place to spend an afternoon in San Andreas! It's located not a quarter mile off Hwy 49 in the newer section of quaint San Andreas with all of the amenities of a major modern library... ample parking, internet access, newspapers and periodicals, a wonderful children's reading and play area, and a fantastic Friends of the Library sale room. The staff is courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly assisting with everything from searches, book orders, and even extra time on the computers if time allows. Speaking of computers, internet reception in this mountainous region of the Sierra Foothills isn't great, spotty at best and this library provides numerous computers with reliable dedicated connections for the use of members and registered visitors. The selection of books is good with a larger focus on young readers, fiction, and crafts but books may be ordered from other libraries in the county for free or from other counties for a nominal fee. My favorite area, the Book Sale room is constantly being restocked with tomes of all genres: hardback, soft cover, and collectible periodicals in good to new condition and at great prices. Often bags and bags of unsorted books will be stacked against the walls for the die-hard treasure seeker. A good selection of VCRs, cassette tapes, and the occasional DVD are also available. In the hallway before the Sale room are tables stacked with freebies. Comfortable seating arrangements are available throughout the main room offering quiet socializing or private reading. Large conference rooms are also available for meetings, gatherings, and lectures. For convenience, the bathrooms are large and pristine, located both in the library proper and in the hallway within the building preceding the library itself. The lobby carries pamphlets, brochures, and information on current events and services offered in the county and local area. Besides all these great services, there are boxes and bags near the building's entrance of magazines for all readers, most of which are current. Take as many as you want! If you live or visit the San Andreas area and in need of a good read, computer access, a place to bring the kids, or just to while away the time, the main Calaveras County Library is an ideal place to spend the day. I highly recommend it!

OMG. You can Eat in the library. YES!!!! I know everyone…read moresaying it, but it is awesome. Being from LA, the LAPLs do not let you eat, among other things. The view of the campus is really nice as you get up to the 4th floor. I would say the higher you go, the qieter it gets. 2nd floor is all noisy! Well, not noisy, just noisy for a library, with people texting, on their phones (if you can get service), dancing, etc. The 3rd floor is quiet with a bit of noise. And of course the 4th floor is the Quiet Zone. I went up there and stayed until about 11:30 to study and it was great. I did great on my 1st Bio midterm, so 4th floor is the place to be when you need to study. Also, the library has 300 laptops available for checkout, which is great because sometimes I don't feel like going back to my dorm room, and I don't have a laptop. And the Lantern Cafe downstairs sells really yummy food like Mediterranean Pasta Salad. Also, they are the only place on campus that sells my favorite: Pomagranate Cherry Sobe LIfe Water! Too bad it closes at 5:30pm, even though the library closes at Midnight. ANDDD whatever you buy from there, you can eat in the library! :) The only downside to the library is that it closes at 6pm on Fridays. BOOO HISS!!! Other than that one thing, the library rocks!

For a library that's only 5 years old, UC Merced's is does a really good job at getting the…read moreresources that you need. Their ILL (Inter-Library Loan) system is phenomenal. You can pretty much have your hands on any book from any UC library in a matter of days and can keep it for a year or so. Their laptop loaning program is used extensively. Their collection of printed Journals and books on hand isn't huge, but you can't hold that against them in lieu of massive budget cuts and how new the school is. They've got at least 1 cool aquarium set up on each floor (awesome!) and some neat museum-ish displays every now and then. My only complaint is the lack of La-Z-Boys. Must have the La-Z-Boys in a school library, or at least couches!

There is a large children's area. Many tables, seats even an outdoor patio with a Big umbrella. I picked a wrapped book from the "Bind Date with a Book" promotion- perfect gift for my birthday next week. Make a $5 donation and pick your book. A fun way to find a new book / author. Get a library card- and you can check out books. There's a section for Young Adults too.

All of the sections are easily located and placed so you can find any book easily. if you speak Spanish, (español) then that's perfecto, because they also have Spanish books and aisles. you can rent movies, audiobooks, and shows there, along with your books. Not a big fan of getting up to go places, or you're too busy? then, download this app (or others, but I highly recommend this one!) called Libby. it lets you add libraries, including this one. you just need to have a library card. in conclusion... THIS LIBRARY ROCKS!!!
