Then again I suspect you can't really run such a shop if you aren't that type of person. The thing is that this place was actually pretty cool. Okay, I couldn't really find any books that grabbed my attention, but then again I was pretty loaded up at the time anyway. Still, there was a decent selection to browse, and quite a good range as well.

The quality of the garment and fabric was inconsistent with my experience of the label purchased (I own a few from the brand from recent years) and I was unhappy with the dress. There was insufficient information on the listing for me to know that the fabric being used was very different from their usual standard of rayon, the pictures provided gave no indication of the fabric either. For me, the item did not meet description. I wrote to The Freedom State requesting the ability to return the item, as they do not usually accept returns on sale items as per policy. They wrote back with a stock standard response, refused to take back the item. Offered 10% discount on my next purchase, which is useless because I won't ever purchase from them again when there are so so many other online retailers that care about customer satisfaction. The Freedom State = online order fail. I'll be shopping elsewhere in the future.

Shame I cannot add pictures of the expensive ($169), popular Chicko boots, which I bought late Sep 2018. After just 5 months, the heel completely opened up, showing some weird paper material inside. This happened after just 5 months of occasional wear (as over the summer in Sydney, so I wore them REALLY sporadically!). End of story: The customer service at the Freedom State is terrible - they emailed back saying that they won't refund/replace, neither did they offer to repair the faulty boots, just suggested lightly that they'd pay 15$ towards the PARTIAL cost of the cobbler's services!!! Part of me was amazed at this brazen unprofessionalism. The shoes that won't even last a whole season with very light wear? Judge for yourself!

Okay, this one is rather small, so do expect to find a huge selection here, which is a bit of a shame because I have basically arrived at a point where the only books that I am looking for are books that tend to be a lot rarer, and even out of print. However, like all second-hand bookshops, it is still a delight to spend some time wandering around and exploring places like this.

It wasn't too tricky, because G&G is right next door! Fiona and Olivia launched their high tea events service earlier this year as a mobile business, individually tailoring your event for you. "At home or under your favourite tree, we come to you. All props, paraphernalia, nonsense and everything in between are provided, no matter the size or style of the event. Our team of stylists are addicted to sourcing unique and one-of-a-kind pieces, giving each party its own flair and fabulousness!" Sounds divine, and there are some lovely event photos on their facebook page. Now, they still run this service... and based on their Facebook page, I guess I wasn't really sure what I'd be walking into. A ground zero for high tea, maybe? A place for potential clients to meet the stylists? But they'd described the space as a "shop"... And a SHOP it definitely was. With only limited trading hours, the small and quiet nooks of Grit & Glamour's retail space are full of vintage and twee pieces of furniture and decorations for you to make your very own. I suppose when you're sourcing items for events, you come across so many wonderful things, and though they can't always be used for the particular event you're sourcing for, they might just come in handy down the track... or for somebody else. I was that somebody else on Saturday, and I couldn't resist grabbing a beautiful and enormous world map wall hanging and a couple of fluoro wall-mounted deer heads. Yep.
