Charged me a no show for being a little late even though I called ahead and notified I was stuck in nyc traffic. They said it was fine then turned me away upon arrival. Unkind, unprofessional people on the whole. read more

Natty is the absolute best -- I usually dread getting my hair cut, but he always makes me feel so good and has never done me wrong. I've also had countless blowouts over the years, and Erika is hands down the best I've ever had. read more

The only place I will go to for a cut for over 15 years (formerly Freemans). Beautiful layout and the best banter around. My wife will divorce me if I don't keep up the handsome routine. Pricing is more than fair and you will never find better service. read more

I've been going to what is now Tuft for over 10 years. Tuft is, without question, the best barbershop downtown. The service and atmosphere are excellent, and the people are even better. If you're looking for cost-cutters or a shop that only views you as another head of hair, this isn't for you. read more

I've been coming here for about 6 months now and I'm not going anywhere else. My guy Dylan is the best -- always gets me right every time. 5-star service, highly recommend booking with him. read more

I have been coming to Tuft for several months now. Tucked away on a quiet stretch of Stanton, off of Bowery in the LES, sits this relaxed, low frills barber shop. They have an easy to use online booking and payment system. I like to set a haircut appointment so I don't have to sit and wait in a long queue on a Saturday afternoon. The staff is friendly and you can sip a Presidente beer while you get a haircut (they do beards, too). My cuts are always exactly what I ask for and they take their time and you never feel like they are rushing to get you out of the chair. read more

Tuft - Barbers Near Me - New York, New York

I would most definitely recommend this shop to anybody (Black, white, Spanish etc.) I had the pleasure to get a cut from miles (cool chill dude with a lot of info when it comes to cutting hair) after having the same barber for 10+ years. This can be a very awkward situation because I'm used to someone that know what to do without asking, but I told miles exactly what cut I wanted and he did that and elevated it to another level. The atmosphere in Tuft is one of a kind giving you that barbershop feel you look for. I've seen a lot of shitty review and complaints about the price/service but I can say they're giving you great customer service and that cost. I Will definitely be returning and becoming a new monthly customer. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF SOME PEOPLE JUST LOVE TO H8. read more

$55 haircut and wash $24 Clay Pomade by Baxter Flew in from LA. Went to this barbershop as friends suggested I should visit. Eli forgot to use Shampoo, he doesn't know how to control the water pressure of the shower head. It was splashing into my eyes and face. I couldn't see. I told him the water pressure is too high, he said this is the only way he could get the hair out. I asked for a fade and cut. He worked hard on my sides but neglected the back of my head. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. THE HAIRCUT YOU GET FROM A STREET BARBER WILL BE BETTER THAN THIS PLACE. read more

ASK FOR MR.NATTY - NEW SHOP - GREAT VALUE This shop is a go to if you're looking for a trim in SoHo. Mr. Natty is the man!! He can be hard to book but if you're able to pencil into his schedule he's worth the wait. The man is an artist with hair and beards. On top of that he has his own product line for personal styling products which I highly recommend. Support your local business!!Highly accessible, Tuft recently moved to this location on Mulberry street. As a new shop that's redone it's a comfortable place to be. Prices are reasonable for the quality, care and value you get for the area. read more

Not even kidding i have never had a worse haircut in my life. waited 35 minutes past my appointment time. barber texted 4 separate times, once even leaving the chair to lean on the front desk, after i already told him i was going to now be late to my next appointment because of his delay. completely ignored what i asked him to do and cut quite literally all my hair off. i had long thick beautiful hair and it is mostly gone now. two of them were drinking margaritas also??? read more

After several visits, unfortunately won't be returning. Atmosphere is more about barbers catching up with each other than really engaging with their clients. Secondly, their cancellation policy is too strict. If I'm running 10 mins late to a back and sides appt, and get charged nearly $50, that's ridiculous. You need to be more flexible with repeat clients. read more

I left after waiting 40 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment time. It's the type of place that makes you feel like you're the problem if you ask how much longer it will be. The response from the receptionist was, "I don't know I'm not cutting hair...". There's no point going back, they don't care anyway. read more

Pasting this review (with some edits) from my review for Freeman's Barber. Most of the barbers from there are currently at this popup. There are two type of people; the first like to get their haircuts without anyone talking to them and are in and out of the chair relatively quickly. The second kind of people are those that want their barbershop to feel more home-y and don't mind conversing with their barber and the other barbers in the shop. This place is most definitely for the latter. If you don't want to talk, your barber will respect that but the overall experience would be enhanced if you participated in the banter. Now on a more personalized level, I gotta give a shoutout to Josh. Don't get me wrong, the other cats cut hair amazingly well. Everyone here is very talented. But, most of them are good with straight hair. I have hair that closer to the curly end of the curly-wavy spectrum. I've had a hard time finding someone who can properly cut my hair and style it. Josh is absolutely amazing. I've never left the chair with any complaints. He's even a dope dude, to boot. I prefer to do my shaves myself because I'm very particular about my beard, through no fault of anyone here. I can't attest to their shaving skills but if you're looking for a great cut, come to 219 Bowery read more

$65 for a 15 minute haircut and it doesn't even look like I got a haircut. Massive rip off. The appropriate price for this place should be $15-20 for a cut. Go anywhere else. read more

I was a walk-in first time client (had brunch across the street). Tuft was able to accommodate me right away. Elvin (Alvin sp?) was an awesome barber. I'm neurotic with haircuts and he listened to everything I wanted and completely delivered more than I even expected! He's also super chill and a great conversationalist. All in all, I would definitely recommend Tuft and obviously Elvin! read more

After 2 good experiences, I have had 2 awful experiences in a row. Both times I waited for over 45 minutes past my appointment to be seen, then barber took over an hour to cut my hair (including a 7 minute break where he just texted??), and finally, ignored my my very simple request to trim the sides and gave me a full haircut, then charged me for the haircut. read more

Aesthetically pleasing interior. Decent haircut but not on the level of the price tag. As a first-timer here, I could tell I was being judged unfavorably and sort of treated like a tourist. Cashier was rude to me upon my misunderstanding of their venmo tipping system. Her rudeness warranted a 3star and not returning. read more

Tuft is an amazing place to get a haircut. I refuse to go anywhere else at this point. I always work with Cave. He is an incredibly talented barber, but you cant go wrong with anyone else in there. Mr. Natty is also aces! read more

Alright, first of all, this is a $55 haircut (for guys). Let's just get that out of the way, because I don't think any of the other reviews mentioned that. There are no prices anywhere in the room and one time I went there and the guy didn't even give me a receipt or anything to sign so I had no idea how much I'd paid until I got home. Secondly, this place is very much the white hipster equivalent of a black barbershop, where there's sports or the radio on and the barbers are always shooting the shit about something that's happening. Service is a little slow. Having said that, what does $55 get you? Well, you sit down and the barber will ask you how you want your haircut- and if you don't know, they'll figure it out with you. They'll make suggestions that they think work best for you. Basically, at every point they'll ask you to specify something - and if it seems like you're not totally sure, they'll gently guide you towards what you think is best. They'll explain your options and discuss how to style your hair and what will be easiest to take care of. They'll give you the headrub and the straight razor shave on your nape and all the other little trimmings. I came here with a general idea of what I wanted (short, pulled back and to the left) and left with a different fade on the sides and a different shape to my hair that I love. So should you get a $55 haircut? It's probably not worth it if you know exactly what you want and you just need a technician to get it there. But if you're even slightly uncertain about what to do with your hair and want someone to walk you through it (or you just want to feel like you've stepped into some Mad Men set piece and be treated like it) you could do much worse than Tuft. read more

This staff at this shop are true professionals! Emily had cut my hair a few times and it's always an outstanding job! Mr. Natty creates a sleek look for women. I went in for a trim and touch up color and he gave me an awesome medium length cut and did color magic that made me look 10 years younger. His cut and color are perfection, he just looked at my hair and knew what to do and I absolutely loved it! That's a hard feat!. He has the eye and the skills for making everything better. He's great at mens haircuts but he also rocks cut and color for women! Highly recommend him for the best color and cut in the city! read more

Bret's been my barber since 2010, ever since I popped in to FSC on Horatio after a harrowing experience with another longtime barber elsewhere. Bret fixed my haircut, and I've been loyal since then, following him around to Freeman/Rivington, to the Tuft pop-up, and now this location. Finding someone to cut anyone's hair is full of anxiety, but I always get a little extra given my super straight and thick Asian hair that makes me look like a Chia Pet without product. Bret's fades are the best I've ever had. And the cuts grow out well until I'm due for another (~3 weeks). He's super communicative and is a consummate professional with exacting standards. I never walk away feeling like something more could be done or something shouldn't have been done. As for other barbers, I can't speak directly to them. All I can say is everyone looks really good and super content on their way out. This brand new location is the best shop I've experienced. I think most people appreciate comfort details geared towards the clients, which this place has: comfortable chairs, room to place your belongings, beverages, hot towels, friendly staff, music. But I appreciate even more the level of attention the owner paid to building the stations, lighting, and overall design that makes it an ideal work environment for the barbers and their skill. I think the respect for the staff definitely transfers to the clients. I highly recommend booking online as opposed to doing a walk-in. read more

I LOVE TUFT! I've been going to Natty since 2019 and he always gives me the perfect cut every time. I'm at the point where I just let him decide how the cut should look. He makes it SO easy! Always a sure fire with Cave, my barber. New spot is great and wouldn't think twice about following them to the ends of the earth. When I come in the descriptions I give for the haircut I want range from "eh" to "meh" to "kinda like this" and Cave connects the dots to produce "magic" (my wife's words, not mine). Sometimes I forget I'm getting my haircut and think I'm just talking to a friend. It's in those moments that I whisper quietly to myself "only at Tuft.." read more

The *ONLY* place to get your haircut. I moved away from the area, but still make the 30 minute trip. Staffed full of the best barbers in the city, who more than know what they're doing. Followed them here from Freeman's and they've only made the experience better. I use Inna, who is just the absolute best. Amazing cuts every time, real AF, and a million times cooler than all ever be. Everything you want in a barber. The experience at Tuft is top notch. From the free Presidente beer, solid music choices, and the awesome design work, you feel like you're in the nicest and coolest barbershop in town. While this isn't one with mahogany walls and glasses of scotch, there's still that same awesome barbershop banter, just with that edge of hipness. Solid cut. Solid time. Will always recommend. read more

Having somewhat thick and course hair, it has always been a challenge to find a barber that understood how to cut and style my hair type. After leaving many barbershops throughout Manhattan unsatisfied, I did some research and decided to book with Mr. Natty at the former Freemans Barbershop. Mr. Natty listened to the frustrations I had with my previous haircuts and spent the time cutting and styling my hair to how I had always wanted. I never felt like I was getting a 'one size fits all' kind of cut or being rushed for the next appointment (he usually is fully booked for a given day, so book ahead online/over the phone). Fast forward two and a half years and many haircuts later, Mr. Natty is still the only barber I even consider. After a recent change in ownership/management at Freemans Barbershop, all of the former barbers moved to the new, just around the corner, Tuft Barbershop. And when you find a barber who knows exactly how to cut your hair without you even having to say a thing, you follow them wherever they go. Although a cut is a bit pricey, you definitely get what you pay for here. All of the barbers at Tuft are masters of their craft, and the cost is a worthy investment. read more

I came to Tuft after having gotten my haircut at Freeman's for years, knowing I'd be in good hands with the former Rivington crew. Bret is a beast, and clearly knows what he is doing. I always struggle to find a barber that not only is really skilled, but also works with you to get the cut you're looking for. I just went in for a trim since I'm growing my hair out, but he considered how my hair will grow out and cut it in a way that it will still look good after a few months. Great spot overall to get a haircut or clean up near the SoHo area. I'm not from NYC, but would honestly consider going up just got how good Bret is. read more

Mr. Natty is my guy. Great haircut; excellent counsel. Always knows how to get my head right.

Chill vibe, great people, attention to detail - what more can you ask for? I've been getting my haircut with Miles for a little under 5 years now and have never had a bad experience. Super reliable. Formerly known as Freeman's barber, this is the same motley crew of total clowns. I went to them for ~1 year as they were the closest place. They do a fine job of cutting hair, but it isn't worth putting up with them. The regular guys cutting hair are perfectly nice, but the "partners" are generally obnoxious. The biggest issue is that they were late for every single appointment I had for a year. Always at least 15 minutes, but often more. The straw that finally broke the camels back was after they moved to their new location on Bowery. I checked in and sat down. 50 minutes later my barber is done with his prior client's hair. They call me over to the host stand and they asked "did you check in?" I obviously had and they had seen me sitting there for 50 minutes. The guy cutting my hair tried to blame it on the host and then said "damn man I was just back there shooting the shit." I immediately walked out and started going to fellow barber read more

I'm not sure where these negative reviewers are getting their cues, as this new iteration of the former Freemans barbershop with Miles at the helm (my vote for most reliable barber), is better and more streamlined than its predecessor. I waited no time at all to get my cut, and I was in and out in under 25 minutes, where my unruly hair does not make for an easy job. The website also made for an incredibly easy booking. Tuft as my barbershop of choice is a no-brainer. read more

I heard about Tuft through my mate who has been going to Mr. Natty for two years. Great experience, I went to their temporary pop-up space in LES for my appointment with Natty. Really friendly staff and cool environment. I went to Natty for a cut/tidy up. He nailed it and had good chats too (not BS about the weather), top bloke. I'm fussy about my hair and have gone through numerous barbers to get the right one. I've found my guy in Mr. Natty and Tuft Barbers, can't recommend enough. Okay, I just had a haircut with Mr. Natty and I have to say he ruined my day. First off he had a client right before me and clients hair was all over the floor and some on a chair and he told me to sit on it. I said, don't you want to clean up first and he said yeah I can blow some hair off. Which he did with a blow drier, but left all the hair on the floor. Then I showed him my picture of my previous haircut and said that this is what I want. After he finished, he didn't ask me whether I like it or not and ripped off the apron, I put my glasses on to see what I have got and I wasn't happy with the length of my hair on the sides, so I asked him to make it shorter, His reply was that that wasn't what was on the picture and that my picture is a shitty picture... literally what he said (great customer service). I said that picture was a general idea of what I want and I if I want sides shorter I want them shorter, also he should have asked me if I am happy before taking the apron off. Instead of admitting his mistake he just kept pushing back, just making it worse. Eventually we got there with the haircut but mood was ruined and I have very bitter after taste after this visit. I am sure I am not the first and not the last person he treats like that, but I view it unacceptable and I am definitely not going back. I had three haircuts from this guy, all of them were good, but this visit just showed how unprofessional this person is and he has a lot to learn how to do a good customer service instead of just being brut. read more
