The staff is attentive and accommodating and knowledgeable the techs are professional and compassionate and I always have a wonderful experience when I am at Harborside. In the past, Harborside's Veterinary Services had been satisfactory. That all changed yesterday! Our dog has been professionally groomed every 4-6 weeks for 10 years (I.e. Bath, Brush and Nail trim). We typically take him to PetSmart for a full grooming, however, this time we bathed him ourselves therefore he only required his nails trimmed. We made an appointment at Harborside. After a few minutes - an employee came out to say they would not finish trimming his nails unless we agreed to give him Gabapentin, a sedative drug. He IS fussy regarding his nails, however, in over 100 groomings over 10 years he has never had to be sedated before having his nails trimmed. Harborside refused to finish the job however they still charged us. Following the supposed nail appointment we could not determine if any or how many nails were properly trimmed. We understand that an inexperienced technician might be concerned however using a muzzle for 3 minutes would have been easy solved the issue. BTW he has never worn a muzzle nor has any groomer ever suggested a sedative before trimming our dog's nails! A truly disappointing and totally unexpected Harborside Animal Clinic experience!

I have owned dogs my whole life & have had numerous Vets BUT none have been as GENUINE as Dr Ron Altman!

The staff and vets at Gulfshore Animal Hospital far exceed my experiences in decades of vet offices…read moreover a lifetime. We needed a SWFL vet for our new puppy and GSAH was AHAA accredited, had several vets available (which increases your chances of being seen) and their education was with excellent vet schools. The front office staff (Tim, Mckenzie) have been so helpful, kind and caring. They send us our records every time our pet insurance asks (again and again), and they do so that day. No need to call again. They communicate reliably through email and text too. The vet techs/vet nurses are incredibly gentle, caring and knowledgeable. My pup has had many blood draws due to a condition, plus nail trims, and she is not at all afraid to go with them. They give great advice on caring for your dog as well. Shoutouts to Lisa, Kelly, Dina and Chris! The vets we have had, primarily Dr Cook, and also Dr Randt for an emergency, have been kind and smart. They take a thoughtful approach and both of them have cautioned to take things step by step to not overspend or do too much too soon. I am so frustrated when I see review complaints about vets, or vets in general. "trying to rack up the charges" because my experience with GSAH has been the opposite. I'm the one saying "do it all," and the VETS are the ones saying "hold on, let's go one step at a time here so you don't spend so much money unnecessarily." This happened with a liver issue diagnosis, and again when my dog swallowed rocks. We took things a bit at a time. The vets take a good amount of time with you and all of your questions will be answered to satisfaction. I never felt rushed. My dog breed (mini dachshund) is one that has more reactions to vaccines and they are very good with spacing out the vaccines instead of pushing to have them all at once. You are listened to at this practice and there is a collaborative model of care. You will be given treatment options and work with the doctor to make good decisions for your pet. Everything has been so exemplary here that I am completely spoiled for any new vet office up north. I almost don't want to leave for summer because they're that great. We feel really fortunate to have found them!

They saved my dogs life!…read more We went in thinking it was time to say goodbye to our sweet boy! An intern hearing our story and wanting the experience offered to do a stomach surgery to remove a massive object from our dog. Seriously it was so big we don't even know how or when he ingested something so large. I would absolutely reccomend this facility to anyone looking for excellent care.

If I had followed the guidance I was given during this visit, I truly believe the outcome for my…read morecat could have been very different. I am sharing this so other pet owners know how important it is to trust their instincts. My first experience with Florida Veterinary Referral Center (May 2024) was outstanding. Dr. Glander provided exceptional care during my cat's CHF diagnosis--thorough, compassionate, and highly communicative. Because of that experience, I trusted this facility without hesitation. My most recent emergency visit was completely different and deeply concerning. I was referred urgently for sudden hind leg weakness, with concern for a possible saddle thrombus. The initial ER veterinarian, Dr. Tucker, recognized the severity immediately and recommended urgent diagnostics. After a shift change, care was transferred to Dr. Dinah Fuelling, and this is where my concerns escalated. There was a delay of several hours before basic diagnostics were completed, despite the urgency of his condition. During that time, my cat had clear hind leg weakness, instability, and was repeatedly falling--something observed by my family and acknowledged by staff. Despite this, I was told no abnormalities were observed. Equally concerning were the overall communication and bedside interaction. I was visibly distressed and emotional throughout portions of this visit while trying to advocate for my cat. I asked multiple detailed questions regarding his condition and treatment plan. My experience was that these concerns were met with limited engagement, and at times I perceived frustration and dismissiveness in the responses I received from Dr. Feulling. I was also told that his lab work--including kidney function and electrolytes--was normal. That did not align with what I was seeing. Because of that, I made the decision to seek care at another emergency hospital. At the second facility, his condition was immediately recognized as serious. Imaging confirmed acute congestive heart failure exacerbation and cardiac thrombosis requiring oxygen, IV medications, and hospitalization. I was also informed that his creatinine was elevated and that he was showing signs of impaired kidney function--something that is critically important in managing cardiac patients. This was not a subtle difference in opinion--it was a completely different clinical picture. The second ER team listened, explained, validated concerns, and treated both my cat and me with compassion and respect--exactly what any pet owner should expect in a crisis. I understand emergency medicine is complex and fast-paced. However, what I experienced--from Dr. Fuelling-- was a deeply concerning disconnect including the combination of delayed diagnostics, dismissal of observable symptoms, and the overall lack of alignment between my cat's condition and the care decisions being made. In this case, I experienced what I believe to be a combination of poor clinical judgment, delayed care, dismissal of clear symptoms, and unprofessional communication under Dr. Fuelling's care. Given the significant difference between my first and second experiences, I cannot confidently recommend this facility based on my most recent visit. My intention in sharing this is simply to provide an honest account so that others can advocate for their pets and seek additional opinions when needed. For transparency, I have included portions of the cardiology discharge summary and lab results referenced above.
