TSA DETROIT you all can't even checkout produce if you tried. Why is it today you have no pride in your job. Your professionalism is a bad vibe that is felt in the air. You really need to get unionized and ask for higher wages. There is no more checking in 2 hours before your flight anymore. It's at the minimum 4 thanks your management and poor work performance. You still can't figure out the shoe thing either. You need to hire a lot more veterans that should be 95% of your workforce. Your training or academy should at the minimum 10 weeks. I am always singing the praises of TSA PreCheck, for the price, it cannot be beat. It saved us from standing in line with about 200 people when we transited through Detroit last weekend on our way home to Virginia from Munich, Germany. So, after about 10 hours of travel already, we didn't want to stand in line for over an hour after clearing customs. Always worth it! TSA PreCheck - Police Departments Near Me - Detroit, Michigan

One of the easier TSA checkpoints to transit because they not only have a Precheck checkpoint here, but they also have a separate checkpoint with CLEAR so that you can combine the two. CLEAR is fabulous because you only need to bring your fingers (or during the pandemic, your eyes) as your identification. Once you're "cleared", the CLEAR agent walks you to the TSO and speaks to them that you're checked. Less touching things is always a good idea for hygiene. Then you're up to the PreCheck checkpoint where you only have to remove your outer jacket. Everything else goes through the baggage machine. Laptop stays in your bag. Segregated liquids (i.e., the Kippie bag) stay in your bag. Shoes stay on (unless they have a metal piece in them). And you walk through the magnetometer. So easy. Every so often, they'll pick someone as a random to go through the DNA unzipper. Not much you can do about that other than ask for a manual pat down. If you travel internationally more than once a year, you should sign up for Global Entry. GE comes with a Known Traveler Number and that gets you Precheck. Of all the TSA PreCheck locations I have been to, this one has always been the most smoothly running. There has not been any hassle for my husband who has some joint replacements that some airports (like LGA) treat like the "end of the world" of complications. Not here. Not only do they have a system, they operate it cheerfully. On occasion the line has been a bit longer than we would have liked, though with all the national advertising pushing PreCheck, it's not so "exclusive" any more. In one airport last year, we could have done just as well in the regular line, I think. But Detroit makes most airport operations easy, big enough for the users and well trained employees, at least in the McNamara Terminal which is the only one I have used. read more

My friend who did not have TSA PreCheck got through the long line faster than I did with TSA precheck. They have new scanners that take forever in the pre-check line in fact they were training people who did not know how to use the screen to view what was going through it took forever it was a total waste of money at DTW it was great in Fort Lauderdale so it depends on the airport ... if you're taking a trip soon this is June 13th 2023 don't use the free check you'll get through much faster at DTW read more

No clear instructions, and then the agents scold everyone like children. Everyone in line was compliant and willing to do whatever. But there were no signs posted for things like, you can't put your shoes in the tray. So they repeatedly scolded people. I understand they have to say it hundreds of times a day. But it is some peoples very first time flying. I had 5 different agents, shooting directions at me. And witnessed them scold and talk down to people repeated in just a short 20 minutes. read more

Life has been much easier with Clear and paying for the PreCheck services. If you fly a lot you can get a KTN (known travelers number); this gives you a little star on your passport that says precheck. This allows you to go through the shorter line and not take off your shoes or remove your laptop from the bag. I would suggest to anyone to get Clear and PreCheck if you fly a lot; this has made the process much easier and faster. You do have to go through a formal interview to get precheck but it's definitely worth it. Also they do random checks sometimes so make sure you still have your drivers license ready in case they pull you aside. read more

With TSA Pre-Check, usually do not have too bad or long of a time going through the TSA lines. But during Thanksgiving holiday weekend I (and a number of fellow travelers) were bounced pass three TSA checkpoints until we hit the northernmost checkpoint in McNamara (Delta) Terminal. Reason given was the first thing had long lines, but checkpoint number 4 had the longest Pre-Check line of them all! Blew my mind! read more

Since everyone is reviewing TSA precheck, I gotta put in my 2 cents here. So here goes. As an employee at DTW we are required to go through the precheck lanes since there is no employee entry line anymore. They stopped that, right after precheck became active. However, we employees are directed to "jump in front" of passengers already waiting patiently in line only because we are employees, by the TSA there. (Yes I hear the grunts and curses when I jump in line). Lately at the North the TSA precheck at checkpoint one closes down at 6:30 am, so if one arives after that time, one has to mingle with passengers and jump their line. So as an employee, I sincerely apologize to y'all waiting there patiently before me, when I or one of my fellow airport employees have to jump to go up front, but thats the standing rules of the TSA. read more

I'm a little more disappointed in the dtw precheck each time. The precheck concept is definitely 5 stars, and it certainly is a lot more convenient than normal security procedures. The problem is that the staff consistently presumes I'm in the wrong line!!! Perhaps I look a little too young and female to use this service? =\ I'm getting peeved at regularly being directed to go to the other lines. Please ask to see my boarding pass first. I'm not sure if this is a permanent change, but the sky priority and TSA precheck lines on the check-in floor have been merged. This is a terrible idea, because the precheck volume is MUCH less here at dtw so precheck loses most its efficiency and benefit. read more

Travel is more convenient with TSA precheck. The TSA agents are friendly and helpful. DTW does a fantastic job compared to other airports. You can keep a laptop, liquids in your luggage and you get to keep your coat and shoes on. It is quick and easy like how traveling used to be. Two thumbs up for Detroit Metro's PreCheck station. For once I didn't have to go to the other side of the airport to find PreCheck, at Detroit it's right next to the regular security check, in the center of the terminal. This one was in fact to fast, that I walked right up, through my bag with my laptop and toiletries on the belt, kept on walking right through the metal detector with my coat and shoes on, and grabbed my bag on the other side, which had gone through immediately. First, I had the incredible misfortune of being randomly selected to go through an extra bit of security, being passed through the invisible "examinating circular kajiggamer device," where you have to turn 90°, put your arms in the air, and your feet on the footprints, and wait for the machine to do one half rotation, before being invited out to move on, or to be further examined. For me, it was the latter. That only took about 30 seconds, but then when it came time to get my baggage back, after its trip through the x-ray equipment, my blue suitcase was pulled aside. I waited more than seven minutes, before someone came looking for the person who owned the blue bag. Again, this was said to be a random check. They asked if there was anything sharp in it, and several other insipid questions, before opening the bag and examining everything inside, including an autographed copy of a book, which they paged through. In the end, things were really not put even close to back like they had been before they unzipped the bag. I found myself feeling like, "this is the last time I want to fly anywhere." I should also note that they found nothing out of order, nor anything which I was not allowed to have in a carry-on bag. I should also note that this same thing has happened to me, with this bag, on each of the last three trips I've made by air. I think that must be some kind of unlucky bag. For a search to be random, it should be a coincidence, arbitrary, unplanned, un-directed, casual, indiscriminate, nonspecific, haphazard, stray, erratic; I quote Sherlock Holmes: "Smith! Smith! It is a singular coincidence, is it not, that you should inherit so much from the man who died of a disease upon which you are the sole expert? Well?! Coincidence bordering upon the unbelievable! Let me tell you the doors of your profession, which have been closed to you, will now be locked and bolted against you! It is my mission." I would like to be able to do the same thing with the extremities of TSA's invasion of our privacy as we travel. Bring them to an end, or at least to a much lesser severity. Is it all REALLY necessary? You can get "TSA PreCheck" if you PAY for it. (For a non-refundable $85 fee {payable by money order, credit card, or a certified check} you can enroll in TSA PreCheck for five years.) What about just allowing good citizens with good track records to qualify, and enjoy "normal" travel without using that as another opportunity for our government to stick its hands into our wallets and purses and rip out some more cash? When she zipped the bag back shut, the woman ran the zipper through a segment of the lining of my swim trunks. I had to exercise extreme care opening it again, so as not to wreck the zipper. They have damaged my property on previous occasions, but try to hold them responsible for it. It is a virtual impossibility. It is an intimidating experience to be trying to be allowed through security checkpoints so that you can fly on a plane. These people are SERVANTS of the nation, which is the people, and I think it is wrong that things work like they do. Where is accountability? Someone in this same business destroyed the zipper on my companion's suitcase, which was not yet 9 months old. We hope to be able to have it repaired rather than throw out a $500 suitcase, but even paying for a repair ought not be our expense. It should be paid for by the inept government servants; the lackeys who are inadequately trained to invade luggage without doing any harm to personal property. I dream of the day when flags are again all flown at the top of the pole, when our military are not engaged in armed combat in remote parts of the globe, and it is safer to travel without all of the seemingly silly "feeling safe from fear falderol" of modern travel. read more

Usually not bad (I fly into and out of DTW every month), HOWEVER, a few months ago, I and a number of other passengers were pulled out of the line while attempting to check in. We had to wait quite a long time for an agent to come over and search our belongings. Mind you, this was in the Pre-check line. When I asked why we'd been pulled out, I was informed we'd been randomly selected "to make sure we were who we said we were." I replied that I was under the impression the $85 federal background check and fingerprinting were supposed to have accomplished this but got no answer. A major PITA, especially since I my flight leaves an hour-and-a-half after my arrival at the airport which means it boards not too long after I arrive at the gate. FWIW, I joined CLEAR and there weren't any agents there this morning to open the line. Total BS all around. read more

They would not let my signed mini bat get through so we told him that it was signed and that is why it was not in the bags we checked. Even after we told him that, he kept pressing down on the bag everywhere. I was nervous that the signature would have gotten messed up. But luckily it did. Very rude people not a fun experience. read more

Some belts with large buckles still set it off! Oh well, I guess we can forgive that minor issue for the fact that you can leave your liquids and electronics in your bag, and your shoes and coats on! There is a TSA PreScreen application booth near the fountain in Concourse A. I applied for the service by giving the attendant my enhanced drivers license and debit card. After 10 minutes of providing info and listening to rules I was told there was an $85 fee for the application process. That was the first I was told there was a fee. I felt duped. Had I know there was a fee I wouldn't have applied and given them my personal information. I'm not sure if the kiosk operators are a business or a government agency. Either way, the process seemed duplicitous to me. read more
