There are two parts of this restaurant, the fancy dinner option (you must make reservations for this portion) and the cafe which is self service. My boyfriend and I did not know you needed reservations for the dine in option so we sat ourselves in the very welcoming cafe dining room. The menu for both are the same so no worries if you can't get a reservation. The self serve option can seem confusing initially but they have a lot of grab and go but you can also order hot meals by ringing a bell for the chef. Check out is right before you leave the self service area which makes it really easy. I felt the prices were really fair too. For food I got the meatballs and split pea stew. My boyfriend got reindeer with cream sauce and mashed potatoes. I absolutely loved my meatballs, they were sweet and savory, I did not really like the split pea stew though. My boyfriend loved his entire meal and cleared his plate. We also shared their most popular dessert which is the apple pie. It was really good, not too sweet which was perfect for us. For a different kind of museum take a train out of Oslo and up into its surroundings. The crowds…read moreon the train thinned out quite a bit and there was maybe a dozen of left to walk through the downpour and up to the entrance of the ski jump and museum. Admission was included in the Oslo Pass and was one of the more unique offerings. If one comes back in the winter then you can experience ski jumping for yourself. As part of the museum admission we did to ride to the viewing platform at the top of the ski jump and took in the almost 360 degree views. We also got an almost direct view down the ski jump. Personally not for the faint hearted but a very unique experience. Inside the museum they included a good variety of exhibits from medalists, evolution of Holmenkollen since its founding, history of skiing equipment and sport, a kiddie section, a ski making shop and more. There also were two interactive exhibits to test how much you could pull, as in a sled, and a skiing competition. A large gift shop was by the exit along with a ski jump simulator ride (separate fee). Well worth it. A Scandic hotel was located practically next door if one want to spend more time.

You can really appreciate the crazy slope when it's used as a jump. I have even more respect for Olympians and people who do this sport. Amazing!

This is a classic outdoor sculpture garden all done by one man-so not common. Massive grounds. Beautiful park walk and fountains and views. Iconic place and I highly suggest you go to his small museum first so you can get more history on Gustav Vigeland and the evolution of the his 200 pieces turning into the "Frognerpark."

This is a sculpture garden filled with over 200 sculptures (and over 600 individual figures)…read moredesigned by Gustav Vigeland from 1940 to 1949. It seems to be known as both Frognerparken (Frogner Park) and Vigeland Park. I doubt you have ever seen anything like this. I am including lots of photos because it's impossible to describe what this is like. The focus of the sculptures is the cycle of life and this is literally shown as babies turn into children, who then turn into adolescents, adults, and old people, and eventually die -- as the circle continues. You will notice that the statues are very realistic and are not romanticized in the least. They are regular human beings. You will also notice, of course, that they are all naked. The purpose of this is to emphasize their humanity without relying on class or wealth that becomes more obvious when people wear clothes. This might make some people uncomfortable, but it is done without any intention of being erotic. The inspiration for Vigeland's work comes from Rodin's nude sculptures. However, the realistic human statues remind me of Pompei -- real human people caught in a fragment of time. That said, is it worth your time while in Olso? Absolutely! This will overwhelm your senses and be etched in your memory -- in a good way.

For a few hours of wandering, I managed to keep myself entertained wandering around this gorgeous area's restaurants, shops and harbor chock full of sailboats and ferries. This is an amazing area to come visit while in Oslo!!…read more While here on vacation in Oslo, I was interested to visit bygdoy for a few various reasons. First of all, this is a nice area with lots of natural scenery, fresh air and open space. Great to visit in order to escape the craziness of the main city area and to experience the museums (the majority of the museums in Oslo are situated out here on this peninsula). We took a ferry from City Hall to get here after purchasing our Oslo Pass. The ferry was a very enjoyable ride. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day and made for a great boat ride, during which we got to capture lots of great pictures and see some open water. Many nice houses and boats situated along the oslofjord to observe on the way. Upon arriving, we were glad to see much open green grass to picnic and enjoy the view; the museums are also located close by. We first stopped at Fram (polar ship) Museum, but decided to skip Kon-Tiki Museum. After that, we wanted to see the viking ship museum and the norwegian folk museum, but we quickly discovered after consulting the map that those 2 places were located a bit of a walk away. After enjoying a nice, pleasant walk we arrived at the museums. They were both very enjoyable and could spend hours there. There are many homes and locals located on this Peninsula of Oslo, which i was surprised to discover; however overall we had a fabulous time and really enjoyed having a visit here. I would recommend to other people who come here on vacation. By the way, the Oslo pass is worth the money in order to get entrance to all the museums and transport here!
