That being said, Brick and Mortar is the perfect LOCAL shop for your holiday shopping needs specializing in home-kitchen-garden items. The layout and store front are beautifully organized offering unique, one of a kind items perfect for gifts or personal indulgence. They currently have some of the most gorgeous Christmas ornaments I've ever seen and sell an array of The Woods merchandise including Maine-made sea bags. After one visit I am already in love with this store and can't wait to do all my Christmas shopping right in Norway! COVID-19 has definitely had its setbacks but I am so happy this store has emerged despite it all-- PLEASE SHOP LOCAL!

Our favorites are the outrageous and the pumpkin chocolate chip, but we've never tried a kind we didn't like. The biscuits, chicken pot pie, coleslaw, and baked beans are also delicious. They of course have an excellent stock of maple syrup supplies, as one would expect from the store name. We grabbed some maple syrup jugs to bottle our own syrup when we stopped in on Maine Maple Sunday!

What is it with the bad attitude at this store? North Conway is a friendly town but you won't find…read moreit here. Such a whimsical name of an establishment (Christmas Tree Shop just sounds wonderful). But everyone who works there is like an old, nasty elf! In the ten or so times I've come in, I've either been grimaced at, dismissed or rudely spoken to. It's just a negative, not-so-nice place, certainly not representative of what's outside their store (it's an otherwise generally friendly town). Case in point: as a Californian, I'd never tried Moxie Soda but wanted to try some when I decided to buy it there. At checkout, was so excited to try it and thought I'd express my fun enthusiasm to the unfriendly checkout lady. Her retort was off-putting: "it tastes like cough syrup!" and added a lot of other unwarranted insults, with a contradictory interjection. She was being unnecessarily rough! I responded by initially offering a kind chuckle. But I later came to understand, because she was deadpan, it was a dig against me, diminishing me and my enthusiasm, not to mention questioning my choice of buy. Ouch! The prices are good and the store is clean and organized (which is why it deserves an extra star) but the people who work there are either dismissive or unnecessarily rough! I intuit they perhaps deal with extenuating circumstances that makes them dislike their job or simply don't like customers. Please, staff: customers are not your enemy.

While I don't like leaving negative reviews, especially for a store staffed by people from our…read morelocal community, my experience this morning left me with no choice. I arrived around 8:30 a.m. when the store was quiet, intending to purchase four outdoor light fixtures along with several solar lights. I approached two associates in the lighting department to ask where I could find a specific fixture, but it was obvious I was interrupting their conversation about weekend plans. After multiple attempts to get assistance, I gave up and searched for everything myself, hoping I was buying the correct products. When I finally made it to self-checkout, one of the light fixtures scanned $40 higher than the shelf price. I waited for the self-checkout associate, Deb, to approve the price correction. She walked away, came back, helped several other customers around me, then walked away again without ever acknowledging that I had been standing there waiting. It wasn't just me who noticed. Other customers were shaking their heads and commenting about what they were seeing. After spending nearly 45 minutes in the store without receiving even the most basic level of customer service, I left my entire cart behind and walked out. Five minutes later, I was at Home Depot. Within minutes, three associates asked if I needed help and personally walked me to the products I was looking for. I purchased everything I needed there instead. For more than 20 years, I considered myself a loyal Lowe's customer. Today, that changed. Lowe's lost a $559.78 sale, but more importantly, they lost a customer who genuinely preferred shopping there. The contrast in customer service between the two stores could not have been more striking. I hope someone in store leadership reads this, because this wasn't about one pricing mistake. It was about feeling completely ignored by employees who simply didn't seem to care. That's something worth fixing.
