I can't put into words how happy I am to have found Virginia. I've been singing backup vocals for a few years by just winging it, and always lacked confidence and structure that might help me feel good about my singing. I'm finding that confidence through working with Virginia. I love her organized teaching system; she provides enough structure to give you a path to follow while leaving plenty of room to be intuitive. I like her focus on placement, a concept I didn't even know existed beforehand. And I love her focus on grounding into yourself and seeking your own true expression of voice. I was lucky to meet Virginia just before the pandemic hit, so I had a few sessions in person at her studio in Wimberley. Since then we've worked through Zoom and it's been great. Virginia introduced me to the 'Original Sound' setting in Zoom, and with that set our virtual sessions are just as productive as being in the same room. Of course, nothing beats the vibe of being live in person, and I can't wait to get back there, but in the meantime I'm able to use this time to do the work I need to do. And Virginia is a great guide on that journey. She's always supportive, and very knowledgeable. She knows all the tricks to get me out of my head and into my true voice. read more

Virginia helped me so much with techniques to physically relax and focus, so I would be clear and calm when I presented in front of a camera. She also helped me breaking down some habits of thought and beliefs that were kind of stuck in my voice patterns. I felt very cleared up and ready to perform when i left. My daughter and I have been taking lessons with Virginia for a little while now. We're so lucky to have found her! She's really helped us with her vocal exercises to strengthen our voices and gain control. She's so warm and understanding and has such a great connection with her students. That was the first thing that I noticed about her when we went to observe one her "sing club" performances. She's such a great communicator. Oh, and can *she* sing! What a treat if she ever breaks out with one of her show tunes or one of her original works. She's amazing! read more

History

Established in 2012.

After years of formal study in musical theatre and voice and performing from the east coast to the west coast, Virginia now explores almost multiple genres in her teachings, instrumentation, singing-songwriting and performance. Virginia performed her own music and other great favorites in different venues throughout Asheville and the Carolinas. When she started studying and developing her own method from a teaching perspective, Virginia couldn't resist the idea of sharing her love for singing and her simple how-to approach with others. Over the years, she adopted some powerful mind-over-matter techniques that help students relax, focus and reach vocal goals they never thought possible; a big one being the confidence (and opportunity) to perform on-stage like a professional. Her joy, passion for and experience with every aspect of performing and teaching music is apparent in the founding of True Voice Lessons and is the fundamental spirit in every lesson. I've studied musical theatre and voice in college and professionally and with several different coaches/mentors over the years and have performed in theatre and music venues from the east coast to the west coast. I'm a singer/songwriter and actively perform my originals and OPM (other people's music) in different venues about this great town of music. I have learned that whether it be choir, coffee shops, jazz ensemble, big brass bands or a musical production with a full orchestra, one thing remains the same; it feels good to sing! I want to share that with people!

Virginia is a gem of a vocal coach and human being. I was initially hesitant to invest in formal voice lessons, but from the very moment I spoke with Virginia on the phone about lessons, all of my anxiety melted away. The best part about Virginia's approach is how she meets each student where they are at, and helps them reach their fullest potential as a vocalist and performer. Whether you have prior experience or it is your first time singing, Virginia molds her technique and coaching to hone your voice and uncover your inner talent. Yes, she teaches you how to sing. But more importantly, she listens and determines how to bring out the best in you. I've always loved singing, but never had any confidence in my own abilities. Virginia steadily built a confidence in me that I didn't think was possible, and helped me ease into the idea of performing in front of an audience through her Sing Clubs and band shows. She was the perfect blend of patient and challenging, pushing me out of my comfort zone to experience the beauty of singing in front of an audience. Everyone is incredibly supportive in the Sing Club, and these valuable sessions have made me proud and inspired to continue putting myself out there as a vocalist and to incorporate more music into my life. I love Virginia. taking voice lessons with her was honestly one of the best decisions I've made for my happiness in a long time. Virginia is knowledgeable, with a lovely voice herself, but she's also positive, enthusiastic, encouraging, and kind. I could hear a difference in my voice within a couple weeks, and she really helps you build up your confidence, too. walking into her studio for lessons is like walking into a pleasant bubble where all my outside stressors aren't allowed in. it's like taking an hour vacation every week. everything else slips away, and it's just me, my voice, the music, and Virginia. her method really does work, and I had no experience prior to my lessons. I just wanted to give it a try for fun and because I thought it would be a good, creative release. it's all been even better than I hoped. the singing clubs Virginia organizes are also really fun, and it's a blast meeting the other students and hearing everyone's unique voice and style. I'm on a break right now and miss it dearly! working with Virginia has truly been life-changing for me. she's just wonderful, and you WILL notice how much better your voice gets with her instruction! read more

I saw the work of the…read moreartist next door at Woolworth's Walk earlier in the week, and was peeking into the studio to see what was in her studio. Another artist who I'd purchased a piece from passed me in the hallway and mentioned Elizabeth's work, which is beautiful; like a fairy tale. I returned the following day and Elizabeth's studio happened to be open so I stopped in. Wow. I'm gobsmacked by Elizabeth's talent and how evocative her work is. The one piece I was able to see most clearly the day before was incredibly large and took up most of the wall facing the glass door, so I was so pleased to be able to go inside and see more. She has cards, prints of various sizes (most or all of them mounted to mat board), and when I was there framed and unframed pieces. She was working on something when I stopped in and it was neat to see her at work. She is warm and welcoming, and told me a bit about the work she's doing and the colors and elements that have been coming up in her work of late. I found two pieces in particular that I wanted (well... I wanted more, but one was a commission and one was more than I could comfortably afford at the moment), both quite different, but beautifully framed. The frame itself is a work of art, to be quite honest, and sets off the paintings beautifully. In the end, I wasn't able to decide between the two and took both of them. I spent more than I had intended to be sure, but I don't regret it one bit. Adding to my excitement is that these are the first pieces of original artwork I've ever owned! I can't wait to get them up in my home. I really appreciate Elizabeth being so generous with her time and giving me some insight into her background and process. It makes it more personal to me, and I'm so pleased to be able to enjoy her beautiful work. I'd love to commission a piece from her one day to complement the magic of these pieces. If you visit her you won't be disappointed, but you may leave with your wallet a bit lighter.
