Star Date 05172025 Captains Log…read more Went to Star Base Alpha also known as Ace hardware Oakland Tn. To get some stain. Apparently I've inadvertently travelled to the Mirror Universe where anyone can be made a manager regardless of how unprepared they are for the role. Now the rest of the story.... I called Ace Hardware, got a nice young lady and asked her if she had Min Max, Dark Walnut stain, number 2716, Gallon size. (I have called up there the last couple days looking for two gallons to be delivered since they have been out). The young lady tells me hold on, she checks, and comes back and says yes sir we have it in stock. I ask did you happen to notice how many? She says four cans. I say Perfect On my way!... I then get in my car and drive up there only to arrive and find out they do not have what I requested in Gallon size. They only have it in the small cans. Needless to say not happy about that as I made the drive all the way to ace in the middle of my project. I ask to speak to the manager. Out comes the manager, (manger in name only apparently). She ask can she help me. I tell her what happened. She looks and says yep we don't have that one. I ask why would your employee tell me they did. Answer I don't know. I tell her I drove all the way up here based on what the young lady had told me. She says we don't have that but we have Honey color in a gallon ....seriously. I ask her okay can't we do something to make it right. Sell me the four small cans, equals one gallon, at the gallon price. No answer just shakes her head then says not doing that. Instead she basically blows me off. I ask again are you not going to try and do anything to make this right. This is your companies mistake. Time is money, gas, inconvenience etc. I tell her I'm not expecting you to magically make a gallon can appear, but don't just stand there. No response except to tell me to stop being rude. I say your employee screws up and you got nothing to say. It seems to me at the very least it's a "I'm sorry sir for the mistake. I'll sell you the four cans for the gallon price or I'll give you ten percent off your next purchase the next time you come up just for your trouble and the confusion...instead nada. Do something...anything. Nope, I get nothing. I ask her for her name. She tells me it's Brandi. I assume it's with an i not with a y, as in incompetent, irreverent, inept. Her best answer at this point is to tell me I can call Ralph the owner on Monday. She then completely blows me off by asking another fellow, who she must have known standing nearby with a "Tom? can I help you". Very disappointed, very unprofessional for a manager that handle a customer this way. Look employees make mistakes, that happens, but Managers should be able to manage, to mediate and to resolve mistakes like this. Apparently Brandi with an i never learned those skills in Ace managerial school. No wonder people drive to Lowe's or Home Depot rather than deal with someone like her. Again very unprofessional.

The best thing about going to Ace....at least this location? The service. They almost always go…read morebeyond what any of the employees at The Home Depot or Lowe's will do. If one doesn't have experience with what your asking about , he or she makes the effort to ask if another staff member at the store does. Can't beat that kind of service. I also love the fact they keep my Traeger pellets in stock consistently!

They have all the normal items you might need, ya know... flowers, soil, shovels, bolts, pipes, hand tools, power tools, strings, whips, chains, leather, ya know... hard wares... They also have some niche items for sale that satisfy me beyond what should be normal in a hardware store. Full lines of Lodge Cast Iron, Big Green Egg supplies that rival anyone around. As a matter of fact, their bbq area in general is really well stocked. Bunch of cool windmills, chimes, outdoor furniture, and even outdoor kitchen equipment. I can't say there are tons of deals just laying around, and you should practice caution and make sure you aren't getting totally taken on price here. One big difference that makes it worth the price is the level of help you can get here. Truly knowledgeable folks in each department make it a joy to shop here. Some things are just worth it. Some things aren't. Glad they are here, because they are. Just get your plumbing stuff elsewhere. '24 - 76/102
