WeWork - Our team loved to spend the here vision casting on how to continue impactful work!

WeWork

I love spending time at WeWork to reset and have a change of scenery from the everyday office…read moreworkflow. If you like open floor plans, and large windows that let in all the sunlight then you'll enjoy the shared co-working space. If you're working with a team and need more or a private area there's Conference style rooms where you have access to tech if you need to share information via zoom or PowerPoint on a television screen. The conference rooms also have white boards for team planning! I've had the pleasure of spending time at the WeWork in Washington, DC and it's my only other frame of reference. The Durham, NC location is downtown and here there are a variety of eateries, coffee shops, bars, etc if you are planning on extending your time into the evening. There's several parking decks in the area and my preference is on Chapel Hill road (across from the Durham Hotel)!

We are all entitled to our own opinions, right? The Sellitti is a Atlee located in the center of the girls wear everything around it is something you want to be here. The wood is super clean and a peach or state of the art tutor Lyde and really cool modern furniture. I will forward to coming back to this place to do some work on my own. The staff are really nice and everyone was helpful in trying to help us get what we need it out of our visit. I'm looking forward to coming back and doing some work on my own. Parking can be A challenge but we are not there is parking along the side of the street and there's a couple of parking decks that are around the way.

Switchyards Durham - Coffee and Snacks area

Switchyards Durham

I've been a member of Switchyards since they opened last summer. It's a great place to stop into in…read morethe warehouse district to get something done, or just to grab a cup of coffee and a stroopwaffle and have a clean restroom, slamming wifi, and a comfy chair! The monthly fee of $100 gives you 24/7/365 access, and it's always clean and well-stocked. The music can be loud at times, but there are quiet rooms if you prefer (or if someone is chatting on the phone in a public area (which is against the rules, but, hey, there are jerks everywhere, right?) I wish we could bring in pizza from Hutchins Garage or something from the Geer Street Gastropub, but snacks only. I may have to use the outdoor picnic spaces later this spring for this. I do love that there are charging ports on many tables, coasters and note paper/pencils strewn about, and little things like a good coat rack by the entrance. I often stop in to destress before a DPAC event, or after the event to chat quietly about the play, if we don't want dessert. The private entrance (app-controlled) makes it very secure.

Switchyards in downtown Durham has been a reliable coworking space for me, especially since I work…read moreremotely and often spend full eight‑hour days in one spot but like to change up where I am located depending on mood or day. One of the standout features is the fresh‑grind coffee machine the coffee tastes noticeably better than what I'm getting at my actual office and its local. The space also has a wide range of seating options, including a quiet room, a reservable conference room, and near‑soundproof phone booths that are perfect for Zoom or Teams calls. Its location is another plus, it sits in a quieter part of the city, and you can walk to Durham Central Park, the Food Hall, and several good lunch spots. Another perk is the small member newspaper where you can place a business ad for free. It's a creative idea and adds a bit of personality to the community. Unfortunately I haven't actually seen anyone pick one up in the months I've been coming here except for me one time so I'm not really sure how much of a reach you'd get by advertising anything in it. Atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming and very "Durham". Lately, the space has been getting noticeably more crowded during peak working hours, usually around 10am Monday and Tuesday which can make it harder to find your preferred spot. Flip side is on the weekend sometimes I'm the only person in there working. Which maybe is more of a sad reflection on my own life but at least you know people aren't just going in to hang out on the weekends. Parking can be a challenge since there's no dedicated lot so you're left to hunt for street parking or try the small shared lot by the school across the street. Prices as of right now are $129 a month or annual at $1200 so it is a noticeable savings if you buy a year. This is cheaper then other comps in the coworker space plus there is a new location coming soon to Raleigh that you also have access to but... I consider nearby competition to also be things like the Durham Food Hall (which allows remote workers and even told me they are encouraging it) and free options like the public library to be viable competitors. Also many cafes are open to remote workers which has been the gold standard for people on a budget. Still, switchyards offers enough strong features and value that I continue to use it regularly.
