Was it closing time according to the hours posted on the door? Nope. Was there some unexpected emergency that required everyone to leave early? Also no. The staff simply decided to close an hour early, despite customers showing up during normal business hours. It's frustrating to make plans, bring a crowd, and then have to turn around because the posted hours apparently don't mean much. Really disappointing for a place I'd been happy to recommend.

In New Orleans, if you go below street level, you are probably either in water or in the sewer. Growing up below sea level messes with your head. Anyway, The Blind Pig is a dark, laid-back Oxford staple and I love it. The food is delicious, the beer is cold and plentiful, and it is a great place to watch a game, grab a meal, or just sit around and talk with friends. It also happens to be the first place I ate when I came to Oxford looking for apartments, so it will always have a fond spot in my heart. It is not fancy, and that is exactly why I like it. Hungry? Come here for lunch or dinner. A few standouts for me are the Cuban, the burger, and the nachos. All damn good. Oxford has plenty of newer, prettier, fancier places, but there is something about The Blind Pig that just works. Cold beer, good food, dark room, stairs going underground for reasons I still do not fully trust. What else do you need?

By the time we sat down to eat, all the sandwiches and fries were soggy. There were only 2-3 other tables and 2 walk ins in that time frame as well so they were not that busy.

Drake the bartender was personable and my waitress was so sweet. Do not come expecting a lively atmosphere, or large bar, but the service, food and drinks are A+! I wish that there was a way to ensure other hotel guests were not inconvenienced by the conference attendees reserving every inside table at dinner. I would think a catered meal in one of the meeting rooms could fix this easily.

Some places tend to get lazy when serving bar food, but that is not the case for The Growler. There is so much seating available if you are planning to hang out with friends, and they have a few tvs and games available for use. I did not end up getting a drink which was an unfortunate way to end my graduation night.
