I was very disappointed to see that the only visible review is negative, and am writing to provide a contrasting perspective. The store is well-stocked and prices are reasonable. Sale items are abundant. More importantly, the lady who is there most often is very knowledgeable and cares about the fish and other animals. She isn't after a making quick buck at the expense of living creatures. If a purchase is imprudent, she will let you know. If you ask a question, you will get a detailed and correct answer. She has often directed me to a less expensive product after I had selected something that was overkill for my aquarium. I purchased a few fish there once, and noticed problems with the eyes of one of them after a few days. I went to the store to purchase medication, but the lady asked me to bring the fish in for an exchange instead. She said it must have been problematic to begin with and it wasn't fair for me to spend money on treating it. I hadn't so much as hinted at an exchange. All of the employees are knowledgeable and friendly. A young man who works there once spent half an hour looking up an answer to a complicated question I had. This is definitely a business worth supporting.

From the get-go, Hailey was rude and unprofessional; she was unsure of how to do his haircut because of minor matting behind his elbows and kept repeating "i don't know, I'll try.". To my understanding, Petco has policies and requirements for groomers and their respective credentials, but it seemed like the team as a whole lacked the fundamentals. After speaking with Hailey over the phone to provide clarification and ask if I could answer any questions, she said no and that I should expect Bruno in about 4 hours. About an hour and a half later, the "previous salon manager" Ashley calls me saying that he is matted all over and that I need to pick him up or else they will shave him as the only solution. In a passive-aggressive and condescending manner, she disregarded any autonomy we have in our dog's style and showed a complete lack of professionalism. Upon picking him up, I spoke with the store manager, Rendy who was kind enough to tell us the truth behind why they refused to work on Bruno. In a professional way, she said that they do not want to upset picky dog owners; every dog owner deserves to be picky if they spend a considerable amount of time maintaining their coat. Rendy admitted that Ashley should not have provided misinformation over the phone falsely claiming that he is matted all over. The salon tech showed my wife how they brush through the coat and the second a tangle stops the brush, they diagnose it as all-around matting and thus refuse service. Although Rendy was kind enough to try justifying the groomer's lack of professionalism, she agreed and stated "It would have been worse if they continued with Bruno." I have had a poor experience with Petco before in which headquarters reached out, once again apologizing for a store's lack of professionalism. I think I am recognizing the trend. I believe if you have a low-maintenance dog with fairly straightforward genetic coat patterns, Petco is actually not a bad idea. However, if you are looking for someone who is educated in more modern genetically cross bred dogs, find an actual professional; quality over quantity!

What a great aquarium shop!!! This place is just awesome…read more I am a saltwater reef aquarium enthusiast, but this store made me want a freshwater, planted tank, again in a bad way. I have been contemplating setting up a tank in my office at work. I wanted a clownfish and anemone tank, but planted freshwater is much easier to manage when traveling for work and not being around to take care of it. Small saltwater tanks (under 150 gallons) are not ideal really. The evaporation wreaks havoc on the salinity and trace elements. One gallon of evaporation on a small salty tank will alter salinity big time. Salinity is measured in "Specific Gravity". Specific gravity is the ratio of a substance's density to the density of a reference substance, usually water, and is a unitless quantity used to compare the density of substances. A specific gravity of 1 means the substance has the same density as water, while values greater than 1 indicate it's denser and will sink in water, and values less than 1 mean it's less dense and will float. So what that means really is, as the water evaporates, the salt stays behind and raises the "density" of the water thus putting more pressure on the inhabitants within. Sorry.... Went on a tear there.... now you know though.... You are welcome. The owner of the place is super cool, very helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. Win. Win. Win. He only does fresh water and is an authorized Fluval dealer with all of their lines of aquatic goods, as well as small nano type tanks all the way up to the all in one 80 gallon tank. Nice stuff! Built in Fluval filtration makes it easy to maintain. If you are curious about freshwater aquariums, I believe this is the best place to go. I do dare say that this is by far and away the best fish store in the Shelby County area. It's clean, well kept, organized, and the tanks and fish look fantastic. '25 - 97/111

After getting side tracked, I pulled in hot at less than 10 'til 6. The store front was unassuming. It was a bit challenging to find, and despite showing up last minute, the guys in the store were cool with me poking around. Inside I found a really, really well done shop. It's simple, but top notch. Clean, organized, well maintained. This has all the indicia of a well-run, well-managed, professional enterprise (unlike some other fly-by-night aquatic warehouse stores that may or may not be in business in Memphis in some seedy part of town at the moment). The tanks inside almost seem to be too well-maintained: it's like they first take care of the fish and then if somebody wants to buy them, that's cool too. This is in contrast to big box and other (limited) LFSs in the area that just want to turn over product, ich and all. That said above, it is a bit on the small side (though, honestly, probably the same size gallon for gallon as the freshwater portion of Memfish). But, the selection is remarkably good for the space they have. Some niche stuff: the best discus I've seen in town, ever; double red Agassizi apisto pairs, figure 8 puffers, black GBRs, huge Kribs in a display, and what an actual nano setup should look like. More interestingly, they have displays that give you in depth info on the fish in the tank. Why's no one think of that before? All the fish looked healthy, well acclimated, and well cared for (i.e., no dead's floating about). Aside from the fish, their hard goods look to be too-notch. I'm a fish nerd, and I buy Fluval for infrastructure and Seachem for water treatment and condition religiously. That's what they sell, so I take it as Warren is a learned hobbyist who knows what he's doing. A friendly conversation confirmed my suspicion. The guy knows what he's doing. It's the right mix of a hobbyist running a massive fish room and selling out of it. This is exactly what I've been looking for since Something Fishy and whatever Kermit's Reef became known as (the one off Macon and Dexter, 10 years ago, at least) went away. I'll update as things progress, but I'm looking forward to buying frequently from FFA. I waffled on 5-stars. But to my knowledge, there isn't another reputable, consistent LFS in Memphis. So 5 stars it is.
