We just happened upon South Beach on a warm Sunday afternoon after having a look at Barrasie beach and Devine it was far too windswept.
Luckily South Beach was afforded some protection from the wind due to the harbour and some beachside apartments further down.
This beach looks to be well kept and although it was such a warm day, was not all that busy.
There's a handy beach kiosk selling your usual beach type toys, mats and wind breakers along with ice cream, drinks and chips - glorious seaside chips drowned in vinegar!
There's is also a small funfair for the kids when they need a break from building sandcastle a and burying each other.
Parking is on street, free and ample for the amount of visitors and is only a short walk away from the beach front.
The only thing letting it down is that the beach could do with being raked as it is at some more maintained beaches to get rid of the dried out seaweed pieces that are around but really, it's only a small point and perhaps it is not cost effective, we will be back for the next bout of sun either way. read more
