I had noticed this sandwich shop in the first few minutes I was in San Miguel de Allende because it…read morewas just down the street from our hotel. I bookmarked it mentally, but it wasn't until our last few minutes of our vacation that Jamie W and I finally tried it. We decided to pick up a couple of sandwiches to eat at the airport before our flight. Since it was a 90-minute drive to the airport, we figured the sandwiches would keep during the road trip. We were right. Fortunately, they opened just as we entered the shop at 9AM. The menu was not only in Spanish but quite robust. There was a multitude of selections, so we were on Google Translate for a while. Jamie decided on the MX$75 Torta Vegetariana, a meatless option with mushrooms, queso blanco, shredded lettuce, and avocado in a Talera bread roll (Photo 9). He was pleased with his choice and particularly impressed with the soft airiness of the toasted bread. As for me, I relied on Google AI to help me winnow down my selection to the MX$95 Torta Poblano. I understood the popularity because it contained chicken Milanesa (breaded chicken), melted queso fundido, chile poblano, lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, and cream. It was all encased in the same Talera bread roll and genuinely satisfying (Photo 7). We were lucky to find an open bench outside the terminal and devoured the tortas in no time. FOOD - 5 stars...tortas that really satisfied after a long road trip AMBIANCE - 4 stars...simple space that was obviously empty at 9AM SERVICE - 4.5 stars...really efficient, tortas were well packed TOTAL - 5 stars...could go for another one just about now RELATED - Exploring San Miguel de Allende? Pass!!! I wouldn't…read moredo what R. Kelly did if I could turn back the hands of time, but I definitely would not have gone here if I could! Maybe I came on a really, really, REAAALLY off afternoon cause how this place has a perfect rating is dumbfounded. We waited over an hour for very simple dishes (nachos, guacamole, papas fritas, and sopas de pollo) that require teeny weeny bit of cooking. I know "simple" is subjective, but you agree....RIGHT?! All fine and dandy if the food came out banging delicious, BUT it did not!! The sopas de pollo was inedible. I hadn't eaten all day and came from a 3 hour hike, and I still did not eat this soup (starvation won over bland, tasteless, lukewarm soup). The best thing was the papas fritas, and it was mediocre at best. The service was not only terribly slow, but inattentive. We all finished our lemonade within 20 minutes and sat around with empty glasses for the rest of the meal. Don't worry, we are not horrible human beings and still tipped the server for his efforts, but gee golly you are so bad at your job dude!

Accidental find: quaint little place tucked on the edge of a small square on El Potrero with inside…read moreand outside seating. We managed to snag an outside table (only 3) on a beautiful temperate evening. The atmosphere was great; the sound of a lonely horn playing "Summertime"carried in with the occasional breeze. The food: great tempura shrimp tacos (pics) accompanied by a hot salsa that is not simply "snappy", but also quite flavorful. My wife had the chicken soup first served as a simple bowl filled with chicken, of course, along with a bevy of veggies into which hot chicken broth is poured! Yummy yum yum! Finally, the guacamole was fresh and flavorful with fresh chips and passed the "far too salty" test with a flourish. And not to overlook service: friendly and very helpful assisting my wife with some dietary issues. All in all, a great place
