Community colleges where you can complete your prerequisites like College of Dupage, Triton, or Chicago colleges would have been more beneficial to save money. I was expecting more student involvement and local organizations and activities, but it has dimmed my personal campus life aside from playing a sport. This school places a big emphasis on sports recruitment and it is primarily the reason why I am here along with the Nursing program, but diversity, sense of community, and campus events are lacking innovation or a truer sense of university life. It is a Lutheran college with closeted beliefs so I feel like I am being put in a bubble. I am Catholic so spiritually it is not far off, but it is not what I intend to practice. I was initially going to attend UIC but because they seldom direct admit, I would have to do pre-requisites and reapply sophomore year. I am planning to transfer after the spring semester to local universities with better diversity, student organizations, and better prices (where it is worth taking out a loan). The only good majors at this school are Nursing, Music, Theology, or Education. The gen-eds are so easy they are comparable to high school courses.

There's safety and love that envelop the students as they walk in the door each morning. The love is given and received, and is almost easy to take for granted because it's just always there. The positive energy in the classrooms is due to the teachers and staff who have chosen to teach in a Catholic school almost as a vocation, as well as the children whose families have chosen this school. As a reading specialist and elementary and middle school classroom teacher, my trust deepened as I recognized the curricular knowledge base for which the administrators and teachers used to select their resources and programming. The importance of including phonics, spelling, and word study is important to me because I have seen the value of it first hand. Their understanding and knowledge of brain-research-based instruction as well as their understanding of meeting the needs of the WHOLE child is impressive and unique in our present educational climate. Additionally, the partnership between the teachers and administrators has been instrumental in making the curriculum accessible to the students. St. Luke's is truly growing and nurturing critical-thinking, independent, well-rounded, soulful individuals.

When I went to my first set of parent teacher conferences, I was blown away how every single teacher knew my son academically but also his interactions in and outside of the classroom. He also had an opportunity to play basketball at St. Luke's which would not have been the case at the public school. The ability to play on this team helped him with developing his athleticism but also bonding with others in his grade. As a parent, I was concerned that joining the school so late would be hard in terms of meeting other parents. Quite the opposite, we have met so many great parents and found lots of ways (i.e Men's Club, sporting events, Gala committee to name a few) to really get involved and feel part of the St. Luke's community.

The most experience I've had doing anything remotely helpful was our engines class, and our electronics class. The rest of the four so far have been so minimal. In our list of assignments we have maybe 10 "labs" to complete, and we maybe do 1. The rest of them the teacher just gives us a 100% for being there, sometimes not even if we're there, and that's it. And they want to worry about attendance now, making it 60% of the grade when the classroom material is barely hands-on, leaving most of the work able to be done from home! I want to pursue a career in auto mechanics and feel proud of it, not feel good about sitting on my computer everyday of the week doing homework assignments that have so much random material in it that don't ever apply. It's not even the American system either! It's all Canadian! What system have they even adopted?? Doing nothing all day and giving every student a 100% on their grades because 5 whole weeks in a classroom isn't enough to teach at least 2-3 things in?? No wonder good credibility amongst mechanics in the field is so hard to find, schools like this let anyone grab a wrench and touch things.

It's a wonderful departure for her from regular day care, and I love the fact that she is getting a healthy dose of the Japanese language every morning. The teachers communicate well and are good at sending home what the children have been working on. My daughter just started at the beginning of November and is happy every morning that she attends school as opposed to not wanting to go to her previous day care. Obviously I don't have as much experience with the school as others do- I am interested to hear what others think. I give it 4 stars simply because it is super expensive. (As are all private schools of quality) We're shelling out a lot of cash monies to read a bad review of this place..... eeek. Thought I'd update my review - Feb. 08 - my daughter does not attend this school any more. We took her out at the end of last school year. She seemed to be the one kid who couldn't handle not understanding the language. She wouldn't talk to, or hardly look at the (Japanese) teachers. It made me sad to take her out because I really wanted her to have the early understanding of another language. She also seemed to dig the Montessori learning techniques. She's super happy at her new school and seems much more comfortable. comfortable
