This church is beyond what's known as "family oriented" ... Everyone is welcome at all times (…read moresingle, married, young or seasoned). Pastor David has become a huge part of my family... Pastor is constantly pointing us towards god & through reading scripture. The funny thing is each time I thank pastor for his guidance he always tells me to thank god & not him. I've never felt the spirit like I continually do at Shepherd of the Valley. Life is hard & the struggles are real everyday but spiritually I keep returning to this church to be refilled weekly and this has made my faith in god stronger . The church family is from all walks of life ( military, nurses, lawyers, teachers, musicians, counselors, artists, construction... those who have homes & those that may be in need of getting help to find a home) all are warm and inviting and you can feel they truly welcome anyone that walks through the doors. If you're reading this I hope you walk inside the church and feel as blessed as I feel each time I come through those doors. God loves you all... I truly didn't realize this until I came through these church doors and now I hope my words help you all find peace through having faith in god.

We were very disappointed but still have special memories of Dr Burns and my father--business administrator--working together.

The church understands that our world is constantly evolving, and that new questions and conflicts arise regularly that challenge the core foundations of Christianity. Instead of doubling down on traditional dogma and slamming the door on any opposing thought, Beatitudes invites skepticism and attempts to honor the search for answers through a community that embodies peace, love, and support. Sermons honor today's challenges while examining theology through the lens of the life and teachings of Jesus, even though the church considers that there are many additional paths to spiritual enlightenment. The inside space is beautiful and reverent, featuring a thought-provoking 50+ foot stained glass window, and several other campus spaces have been newly-renovated. If you are in a period of questioning... If you have ever experienced trauma/frustration from mainline church, and still believe in something more... If you are looking for a community that embraces seekers on every part of the wide religious spectrum... Beatitudes is a place where you will be loved and nurtured, right where you are. One weekly service, Sundays @ 10:30 AM! Opportunities for kids and young families to connect. Music is blended and varied while incorporating professional talent from around the valley in service and concert.

From a low broad entry area, the rest of the building rises toward a high focus. It is symbolic of a community that reaches for enlightenment while being grounded in inclusiveness. It is a welcoming church, and for me, concrete evidence for that is its allowing Dignity, a group of Catholics disallowed by the hierarchy from holding services in the main Catholic church buildings because of rigid dogma against LGBT orientations, to use its chapel for fellowship and solemn worship services. Faith communities of churches like this shine like beacons in a milieu often darkened by intolerance.

Just to give you the basics: Service is Sunday at 10:30a for about 1 hour, communion is done every Sunday, they have fellowship for 5 - 7 minutes about 20 minutes into the service. The service is about 1/3 music and 2/3 preaching. The church was designed by Frank Wright, so it has the mid-century architecture. The land was a date farm back in the day. The worship music (in the 2nd service) is 'contemporary' and is more easily chanted than sung. The minister has a close relationship with the congregation and ministers real life concerns. They recently removed the bench seating (BOOO), that had been so very interesting, the benches had been carpeted with the same material as the floor, it took me a visit or two to become accustomed to it but now it is gone. The church is very community oriented, for many many years they offered a "Dickens Holiday" to the public--a marvelous winter wonder, that is now gone (donated to a church in Louisiana, post Katrina). The facility has a pipe organ, which I have never heard used.

There's something about sharing that space with others that amplifies it's power (for me). I am globally familiar with Parmahansa Yogananda's teachings and resonate with what I know of them. As of the time of this review, the meditation hall is open for structured meditations Friday and Sunday evenings, and Sunday mornings. Website will have details. My first time on the grounds, I stopped by the welcome desk and was greeted by two friendly volunteers that shared information about both the founder and the Sunday morning process in general. They were warm and helpful, and I felt welcomed. There seems to be no distinct age, race, or gender that is predominant, though I have found fewer younger than older attendees. In the hall itself, there are two entrances facing west and one facing east which also serve as exits. I have found no particular designated route in or out. There is praying/singing/chanting at the beginning of the one hour Sunday morning meditation, and at the top of each hour for the extended evening meditations. Total time of silence in the one hour Sunday morning meditation is about 30 minutes. In my handful of visits, I have not felt like an outsider, or as if I was being judged or indoctrinated. I'm grateful to have found a silent safe haven of sorts in the middle of the city.

They gave me a welcome packet that had several free books and a schedule of the events. I enjoyed the meditation and the chanting. It was pretty much what I expected. I would probably go there more often if it was closer to my house.

Our New HOME church…read more..... If you are like me and my wife when we were: - Looking for a change! - Tired of being just a number and a Sunday Christian in a Mega Church that teaches false doctrines, handpicking and compiling different Bible verses, and twisting the Word to promote their political, financial and bigoted agenda - Looking to grow spiritually, learn in-depth teaching of the WORD verse by verse from the most humble Pastor and Church Leaders (Elders), and to encounter amazing people and develop meaningful friendship/relationship with such welcoming congregation. - Looking to focus on serving the surrounding community (not an unheard of remote town of a third world country to lay guilt on you so you can give more money and they can say its being used to help someone who you cannot verify, so just take their word for it) - Tired of Overwhelming Noisy Rock Concert for Worship Songs, with the band more focused on showmanship than leading on Worshipping the Lord. - Tired of display of arrogance, being on a pedestal, and not knowing your Pastor personally, cause you only know him via Satellite service, or he is too important to get to know his congregation in person. - Having a teen daughter/son who will be accepted by their Peers in the Youth Group who will be a good influence, and walk with them through their daily pressure of being a teen ager. - Tired of being Judged, or seeing other people be judged and condemned by the church and its hypocrite members. We are all SINNERS regardless of how big or small your sin is. Unfortunately, certain church tend to believe that there are acceptable and unacceptable sins, which gives them the right to judge, condemn and reject those who does not agree with their belief, but really needs God the most. - Tired of offering plate being passed around during service which forces/manipulates you to give. Tithing should be between you and God, not you and the Church, for God loves a Cheerful Giver, not give because of obligation or compulsion. 2 Corinthians 9:7 - Tired of Bureaucracy of Churches that only accepts you if you abide by their rules. Membership should never be a requirement unless you want to be a part of a Cult. - Just simply wanting to rely on His Grace and Mercy and not from any kind of works -Ephesians 2:8-9 . To be accepted for who you are. To know that someone will be there for you while you struggle with daily challenges of life. Everyone will continue to struggle and sin everyday, that's why Jesus died for us, cause we can NEVER be perfect...And if you are willing to accept that, then you know being a Christian does not mean you are perfect, living a perfect life, but know that you are LOVED and SAVED! Then - Don't just take my word for it....Come check it out! https://www.odfchurch.org/

What I like about this church is that everyone is welcoming and that the church feels like home. It doesn't feel like a swapmeet where merchandise is being hawked at every corner and the best part is that the pastor does NOT shove politics down your throat from the pulpit. ( That is a big turnoff in my book) What pastor Caleb is interested in is introducing you to a man named Jesus Christ. He has NO desire to become famous or achieve notoriety in any way shape or form. There are plenty of classes for children and adults to those of you who are interested in furthering your knowledge of the word. So, please feel free to check it out and see if it's a fit for you.
