I have had very bad experiences with churches in the past. They were either too stuffy, awkward, or not accepting of new members. The Gathering was perfect for me. It was warm and inviting, but not too "in my face". They let me slowly warm up to them and they accepted me in with open arms. Matt is the most animated Pastor I have ever met, I look forward to shaking his hand on my way out. He is passionate about what he does and what be believes in. Immediately after sitting down, I realized that I was in the right place. I felt so touched and inspired, and encouraged to explore my spirituality and connection to God beyond the confines of a Sunday morning. As Christian churches go, they have their religious tenants that tend to put them in the "conservative" camp, but as far as churches go, I do believe that this one is fairly progressive and accepting. Things to expect: messages concretely tied into real life, excellently performed contemporary music - some of it original, overhead presentation of what's occurring on the main stage so everyone can see, occasional use of videotaped messages when the pastor is traveling, coffee before the service and donuts after, and kind people all around.

To me there is no more a beautiful place on God's earth than Trinity Lutheran Church in Soulard. My mother was a very major role player in this church back in the day and her life was celebrated in her funeral at this church in March of 1990! The original church of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and C.F.W. Walthers was this churches pastor for 49 years, as well as the 1st founding president of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The original offices of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod were in the basement of this church. This is the oldest Lutheran Church west of the Mississippi River.

We both felt that we had a lot still left to offer, And began to think that we needed to move elsewhere. We were a drift for a couple years and tried out several places before trying Skyline Church in O'Fallon, IL. I consider myself a very grounded Christian, so I am familiar with biblical and non-biblical doctrine. Some of the places we try it out seemed more like self-help centers, rather than helping you to nourish a personal relationship with your savior. Someone we knew once went to skyline so we decided to try there, and I'm so glad we did! It pretty much felt like home right away. The worship is amazing week after week and Pastor Jeff nails his sermons every week! There's no beating you over the head, but there is no sweet talking sin either! The demographic at this church is a nice blend of middle age and older as well as a larger percentage of younger families. Lots of kids and kid activities! If you are looking for a new place to call home, this just might be it!
