He fosters a very relaxed atmosphere in the shop with lively conversation, and even though there is often a wait involved, nobody seems to mind. When shops were closed with COVID, myself and others I knew opted to wait until he was open rather than shop around. When he was out with personal health issues, I was happy to keep visiting the shop to see Chuck (meet him on Fridays!) and happy to know the shop remained in business. The prices are very reasonable for the current market ($12 for a cut), and that includes a hot neck shave too. If you're coming here to be in and out in 20 minutes, this isn't your jam. But if you want a high quality cut, beard trim, neck shave, and all in the context of good old fashioned barber shop, this is the best joint in town.

If you're used to getting a five minute in-and-our Sport Clips cut, you're really in for a treat. From the cut, to the beard trim, straight razor shaping, to the hot and cold facial towels if you're a beard man, Candace legitimately pulls out all the stops. I leave feeling and looking like a new man after every appointment. I usually go around lunch time and joke with her that I'm going to be worthless for the rest of the day because I feel so relaxed that I just want to laze around and nap. Candace also has a great assortment of Suavecito and Grave Before Shave products if you're interested in upgrading from the supermarket stuff you've been rubbing in your hair or beard. Barber Edge is located in a house facing Green Street and has plenty of parking in the back. John is a great guy and I especially enjoyed the conversation. He is incredibly detail oriented and asked me questions about my hair style and skin care regimen that I quite honestly had never given much thought. This shop is hidden in a small shopping center, and is much larger inside than it would appear from the front. The day I came, there were four barbers working: Keith, Bryan, Matt, Cliff. I had my haircut by Bryan, who tells me he retired after barbering for 35 years and just does this part-time now. Despite being busy, the weight was minimal and the service fast. I got a good haircut and a hot neck shave at a reasonable $17. It's good to know before you come that the shop is cash only, so make sure you bring some with you. I'm a firm believer that the training of a barber is better suited for men's hair which is why I only get my haircut by barbers. Normally I go to a different shop closer to home, but it's nice to find another traditional barbershop that I can use as another option. Since I'm a fan of tapers, I was ready to let this one go and just chalk it up to Randy's hair cutting to be of a different style... But I requested a shave as well, something which I heavily regret. After using a razor to give me a clean shave, Randy then followed with an electric razor for about 15 minutes. He applied a shaving balm and repeatedly went over the same areas, resulting in visibly irritated skin. He left burns all across my face but the worst was above and below my lips. I've attached a picture to show this. Despite the poor experience, I may have returned for a second chance if Randy at least showed some friendliness or hospitality while I was there... But not only was there no attempt at conversation, inquiry of what brought me to their establishment, etc... there wasn't even an introduction.
