This was my first time going to Taste of the Triangle and definitely won't be my last!…read more Josh and I arrived to Wake Med Soccer Park right around 5 PM just near the beginning of the event. Despite what looked like a long line, we made it in to the event quickly and were overwhelmed with the number of choices for free samples! We hit the White Street Brewing truck first and were pleasantly surprised to find they were pouring full 12-oz beers. I tried the kolsch and found it very refreshing on this hot summer day! After grabbing our beers, we started walking around to try some of the food. The options were plentiful and we were too full to even try half of the tents, but I really appreciated the chance to try out some new local (mostly Cary) spots. I will say I was surprised by the number of chains at the event, but it's hard to complain about Bojangle's sweet tea or a philly cheesesteak from Jersey Mike's. Some of our other stand-out favorites were the barbeque chicken legs from Larry's Southern Kitchen, the chicken salad sandwich and the reuben from Dorry's Downtown Deli, Lumpy's ice-cream, the white chocolate baguette from La Farm Bakery and the beef and potato empanadas from Latin Quarters. I do wish I had been able to try the crepes from Coffee and Crepes before they ran out, but I look forward to going there with the coupon they give me for a free dessert crepe! All-in-all this was a great event and I believe it to be well-worth the cost of the $15 admission!

My first Raleigh food tour was a great introduction to Raleigh and how I learned to get around in Downtown Raleigh. So since then I always try to find a food tour while traveling. Even though I've taken the Raleigh tour multiple times it has not been the same exact tour as the restaurants rotate so the route changes. Taste Carolina has tours in Raleigh; Durham; Hillsborough; Asheville; Winston Salem; Greensboro; Chapel Hill; Charlotte and Wilmington. Besides Raleigh, I've been on the Hillsborough tour; Durham tour and Wilmington tour. The only tour that wasn't up to par with the other Taste Carolina tours was the Wilmington tour. I do not recommend that tour. The website is easy to use and book the tour you want to take and you can list any food restrictions or food allergies. They try to accommodate. Then you are provided a starting location and parking suggestions. On tour day, you meet your guide and you are off exploring the town as well as discovering restaurants you might not have heard of before. Back when I started these tours, my palate was limited. These tours exposed me to foods I never would have ordered. Some I loved and others not so much but that is all part of the experience to try new things. Generally there are about five or six stops on the tour. You will be given your dish then usually the chef or owner comes out and tells you about the dish and the history of the restaurant. On my last tour I took the Durham tour a second time. At the stating point, the guide had the route we'd be walking on a map with all the restaurants we'd be stopping. I learned some new areas in Durham and went to new restaurants. I regularly eat at several restaurants I was introduced to on the first Durham tour. I've tried to take the Asheville tour for years but the weeks it runs never meshes when I am in town. March will take me on the Greensboro tour though. This was recommended to me by someone on my Durham food tour.

The scene, music, and price was wayyyy better. We hit a beautiful sunset with some delicious food trucks and it was a big birthday win. I had a great time too, good mix of breweries and vendors selling things like shirts and "monkey butt" candles (that was legit the name of a sold out candle... intoxicated people are easily amused). Great people watching and a fun time overall!

So many local breweries that we've been meaning to get to, all in one spot. Being in Sugg Park, there is tons of room so you don't feel crowded. The large selections helps with minimizing lines. The app was a nice way to track what we sampled. A large selection of food trucks, plus a few sampler booths (butchers market FTW!) provide a great selection of food as well. There were also lawn games and picnic tables for seating. The shade tents and complimentary water bottles were a great touch for keeping everyone cool and hydrated. Overall, we would definitely attend this beer festival again!!

It was fun to stroll through and see the local art work and purchase unique pieces. I was in downtown Raleigh this year during the event so decided to check it out on Fayetteville St. It just seemed like vendor after vendor up and down the street trying to sell rather than showcasing their art. I'm not sure if it would help to return to Moore Square as the event seems to have grown so they want more vendors rather than an art festival. It isn't the event I enjoyed so I will skip it in future years.

What are the chances that the first time you visit Raleigh a festival that happens once-in-a-year occurs? Had such a wonderful experience and felt like all the people we met there were wonderful. Here are my favorite parts of Artsplosure: - I would argue and say that this event has a lot of art that is a bit more commercial which I really like. - The people are all extremely nice and really excited to share their art. - The location is great because it's right near a lot of different things in Raleigh downtown so it's a cool way to explore the city. - The prices of the artwork was fairly reasonable. Usually I would not buy any art pieces, but this was the first art festival I went to where I felt like I could actually afford some of the pieces. Overall, great surprise on the Raleigh trip and definitely would recommend anyone in the area or visitors to put this event as part of their itinerary. Now only if they had an arts and crafts section...
