The early 1990s main sanctuary is so beautiful- wooden high arches, balcony, stained glass. Not a single note sing or chanted. A paradox, in my mind. Another eccentricity is that a space seems to have been added on, a room adjacent to the sanctuary, where that tabernacle is actually located (not behind the altar). The 30-minute speed-Mass brought me to tears.

I wanted to get married in a Catholic Church near Omaha and I had always wanted to get married in a castle. With how many guest we had I was so grateful this church had a date available. Not only is this place stunning on it's own, but they have a list of people to work with to make the ceremony a breeze. Now you can't decorate in here because they have two weddings a day, but the stained glass and detail don't need anything extra. Kathleen the coordinator/business manager is a rockstar. I owe her so much. Not only did she help my day go off without a hitch, lining everyone up, helping me with their list of people that could do music, etc, but also she stepped in when the Dioceses was being unreasonable. She helped me communicate with the marriage group and was a huge assistance with my out of state bride status. I could go on forever about how amazing Kathleen is and how beautiful this church is. If you're Catholic, get married here! It's a wonderful experience!

The parking is terrible lets not even sugar coat it but there are 2 small lots across the street you can use and the streets behind them. Mass here often uses Latin so be aware although this is not a traditional Latin Mass. (TLM). The entire building is beautiful. I highly recommend every to come visit. Their involvement with the community makes you feel a lot better about paying for that extra shot of espresso. As far as the Urban Abbey Sunday evening services...I attended recently for the first time. It's something I had been meaning to check out for the longest time, but never got around to it. Everybody was warm and welcoming (but not too warm and welcoming if that makes sense). The pastor made a point to come up and introduce herself before the service, but she didn't call us out in front of everybody and make us eat a live chicken or anything crazy like that. It was very comfortable for a newbie. Their was a stronger Christianity influence than I would have expected. And it was definitely a "service" versus a large group discussion. So I wouldn't say it was what I expected, but still very welcoming and uplifting. The people who attended were the type that make me proud to claim Omaha as my home. I will definitely check it out again and if you've ever considered going, I would definitely encourage you to at least give it a shot. It's only an hour and you get free coffee so what do you have to lose? :)

And while that is always a bonus, I stayed for the wonderful community that calls this building it's home. Perfectly situated just a few blocks from the busy Blackstone Business District, this church has been serving this community for over 100 years. When many left the neighborhood, they stayed. Not only can you attend a church service here, they also host many other groups and events. Master Singers choir concerts and Bridgit St. Bridgit theater plays. First Congregational strives to be an open and welcoming community to all people. I'm glad I found it!
