I don't even know what to say that will do this place justice. From top to bottom so beautiful. We went in the arts Cathedral project first. A perfect step for apprehension for and understanding for the Cathedral itself. The moment I walked into the Cathedral my breath was taken.

A lovely Cathedral with a long history that Omaha should be proud to have. I am here weekly for mass and enjoy the beautiful architecture and quiet beauty when sitting inside. Sometimes I come a little early to just relax within it's marble walls and admire the stained glass. Nothing was left out when designing and building the structure, that's for sure. Mass is standard and traditional here, so don't expect some wild left wing mass that some Catholic Churches in town have adopted! (See my review for Sacred Heart if you enjoy a more musical fun filled mass). Expect the mass time to last for 1 hour except weekdays and Saturday evening seems to be a little shorter. There is not always a Choir with mass, just for the mornings on the weekends and Sunday evening. Mass times are offered here frequently throughout the week and it's in a very accessible location with lots of parking- which makes it an attractive place to attend mass for someone with a busy schedule who needs flexibility each week. If you do stop in for a morning mass, I recommend Lisa's Radial Cafe or Sweet Magnolia's next door for a post mass meal or treat :)

This is a beautiful church with a long history in Omaha and even if you're not Catholic, definately worth a vist. I have fond memories of attending Midnight Mass services on Christmas Eve as a child. This year I attended the 30th Annual Flower Festival at the end of January for the first time and was kicking myself for all the years I missed it before. I didn't anticipate how well attended this event is and would advise people to plan for minimally at least an hour depending on time of day. When my mom and I got to the Cathedral there was an hour wait just to get inside but we were kept occupied by visiting the Cultural Center, gift shop, and enjoying some live music and coffee/pastries/sandwiches from Wheatfields available for sale. Even though it's only summer, I'm already looking forward to next year's Festival.

A beautiful church, with convenient parking right across the street. There were several restaurants nearby for after Mass too.

I visited Saint Cecilia Cathedral for Easter Mass and was really impressed by both the architecture of the building and the welcome I was given as a first time visitor. Saint C's offers Mass at multiple times throughout week making it hard to not attend Mass. The Homily given by Father Onuoha was outstanding and made me reflect on the resurection and what it means to not only Chatholics but all Christians.

A beautiful cathedral. In all my years going to college in Omaha, I do not ever remember stepping in here for a visit. So on my last visit to see friends, I made it a point to stop in. It reminded me of the grand and spectacular European churches. Definitely worth a visit.

Now I'm no churchgoer, but St. Cecilia's still manages to bring me to my knees with its sheer majesty. I mean, this building is gorgeous -- seriously one of the most significant and iconic buildings in Omaha. What's really nice is the fact that St. Cecilia hosts events the entire city can enjoy. Namely the flower festival in February, which is that perfect reminder that spring is only a month (or sometimes two) away. I also highly recommend attending a concert at the cathedral if you ever get a chance, specifically one that features their newish gigantic organ and especially if the music is by Bach. Majestic music in a majestic fortress of the Universal Messiah is pretty hard to beat, sorry O'Leaver's.

Saint Cecilia . . . . My Haven . . . . the Mothership. This beautiful architectural Spanish style cathedral church has been my go to parish whenever I am able to trek the drive all the way from West Omaha. There is no other church where I can truly feel my deep faith and be at piece.

We were there to just take a look of this cathedral with several hundred years history as a landmark of Omaha. It is a big cathedral I have to admit. Especially from inside

That is the sign of a great church and one that I have been a part of for the Lord Jesus Christ and the people who are here are so inviting and welcoming and I have become very good friends with the people here... They don't look at me differently from themselves and that brings me so much comfort and confidence in the Lord and to help others to spread his message of love and acceptance!! I have been taught to embrace people and their differences and I am more likely to run towards the one that is in a wheelchair than the one who is standing on their own two feet... That is because I was born disabled and I have always looked at the world differently and I have never felt accepted by others, until last year.... This church has saved my life more than once and I am forever grateful to them for that.... God bless you all and keep the faith!

I recently switched to Candlewood when my boyfriend proposed to me. My fiancé was committed to serving this church. Since we were engaged, I knew that we would be getting married and would both need the same church home, so I started going to Candlewood with him and felt very welcomed. The Candlewood website is absolutely amazing (my now husband is on the website development team for the church) http://www.candlewoodchurch.org/. He also plays the drums in one of the worship bands. I love watching him play Sunday morning and seeing his heart for God and the joy he has while serving. We then started premarital counseling with the pastor and his wife. It was a great time to get to know them since I was still pretty new to the church, and for them to get to know us better. Through marriage counseling, we didn't experience any surprises or things we didn't know about each other. Going through it was helpful because it reassured my fiancé and I that we were really meant to be. Some of the topics were, the meaning of marriage, in-laws, emotional temperament, children, finances, etc. In that time, we also joined a couples lifegroup, which is just a group of 5-8 couples who get together every other week outside of church. We have done numerous things with our lifegroup: bible study, BBQ, movie nights, Polish Festival, CWS, outreaching events, etc. In the transition to Candlewood, I have felt very welcomed. I know that this church is a Christ centered church dedicated to serving the Lord and doing His will. They have a solid children's ministry, talented praise bands, pastors who speak truth, friendly attendees, and Panera bagels and pastries served with coffee before every church service. I would recommend Candlewood to anyone in the Omaha-Metro area seeking a church home.

The sermons are engaging and often contain many elements of humor, but at the same time are very scripturally-grounded and motivate spiritual growth. The live band consists of very talented musicians and does a fantastic job at providing an environment of worship. Disclaimer: if you're looking for a church that just sings Hymns and is more "traditional" in worship style, this may not be the Church for you, and that's OK! I personally prefer having a band and singing songs in more "modern" language that I can better relate to in worshipping God, but I certainly recognize there are people who prefer it differently. One of the best parts of this church is the fantastic kids' program called "StoneBridge Hollow." Available at all service times, it allows for parents to securely check in their children and take them to a class that will provide age-appropriate (and fun!) learning resources while parents can attend the service. Some parents still choose to take their children to the services with them, and they are more than welcome to do so. But for those that want to utilize the kids' program, it is a fantastic way for your children to learn and grow in a safe environment. (All volunteers in SB Hollow are background-checked.) In my opinion, this is a church for all different kinds of people: for those who have been Christ-followers for a long time, for those who haven't been to Church in a long time, for those who maybe have never stepped foot in church, and probably just about any other situation. People here will welcome you, no matter your background. I'd encourage you to check it out, and if it doesn't seem like a good match, there are a lot of other great churches in the Omaha area so hopefully you will find one that is a match for you!

To be clear, I post this review in great sadness and in the most respectful way possible. That…read moresaid, I was kicked out of CCC membership and fired from my full-time job for being gay... when I was a young, 24 year old kid that was really struggling in life. While at CCC, I was forced into the brutal/unchosen lifelong sentence of celibacy, void of romantic love and touch FOREVER (something that hetero church leadership/members will never attempt or fully comprehend the hopelessness of). I began my lifelong journey void of romantic love and touch at age 18. I was also encouraged by CCC leaders to take gay "conversion therapy" where my conversion therapist told me to "keep things quiet" since conversion therapy was frowned upon as it was illegal in most states (today it's illegal in ALL states) because it is "strongly discouraged" by the APA (American Psychology Association) due to its harmful affects on young people and common association with suicide. Google it. Looking back, I find it reckless that my therapists and church leaders would disregard the APA's "strong discouragement" of this technique and practice it on children. I could not even look people in the eyes while I was taking this therapy but constantly redirected back to it. So dangerous. So cruel. Once, I remember a bill was proposed by local politicians (The Ben Grey Act) that was designed to protect gay people in the Omaha workplace from being unjustly fired based on their sexuality alone (NOT work ethic). Special protections were already in place for race, age, gender, religion, and disability. So what did the leaders at CCC do? They passed around a petition to it's 3,000 members to ensure that this bill wouldn't be passed... citing that religious-owned businesses should have the right to fire gay people based on their sexualities alone, NOT work ethic. How sick. How cruel. What a horrible message to send these wonderful people that you are called to reach. It was in moments like this that it became crystal clear to me that the leadership/members at CCC saw me as a second-rate human. Heteros will never know the dehumanizing pain this inflicts on a young mind. And this is a great example of the treatment that a gay adult will need to constantly cope with when they are in the care of anti-gay leaders that are ill-equipped to care for gay people. Over the years, my experiences at CCC have come up often with various therapists... which they would often follow with a gasp, and then visible anger. I've seen 4 different licensed therapists since I was at CCC. ALL of them confirmed that my time at CCC was very abusive. So, finally when I was 24, after spending my entire life loyally fighting off my homosexuality and trying my hardest to fit into a community and an ideology that I couldn't, I began to break at the seams and broke down and went to a gay bar and kissed a boy. Afterwards, my roommate told on me and I was immediately forced out of CCC. I was escorted off the church premises that day like a stranger. This was my entire network of friends and relationships... my family... as I was escorted off, I couldn't help but think of all of the Christian men that I interacted with everyday that were regularly partaking in masturbation, pornography, gluttony, obesity, gossip, drunkenness, live-in partners, divorce, etc... so why could all of these people stay, but I had to go? The load I was carrying was SIGNIFICANTLY heavier than theirs. Pure hypocrisy and abuse. As I've gotten older, I've become uncomfortably aware of how common this abuse towards gay people is in these churches. The rejection/stigmatization, the inhumane lifelong/loveless lives, people always viewing you as "a project", the unbearable emotional isolation... and how often that abuse leads to suicide. I have SO much more to say but am out of room. I invite anyone that reads this to contemplate my words/tone before judging. I welcome all conversations on the topic broad or specific to anyone/anytime as long as we can do so respectfully. I appreciate all who took the time to read this, thank you.
