It's an amazingly healthy sport after all and with a bike from the Classic bicycle shop, journeys will be so stylish too. The Classic bicycle shop specialises in early 1900's European designed bicycles and carries a full range of authentic single speed and 3 speed bicycles in different styles, sizes and colours. They also carry a great selection of period accessories and parts so you can look the part completely. Check out the full range of vintage and retro style ladies and men's bikes in a multitude of heritage shades like Black, Cherry Red, British Racing Green, Royal Burgundy and Cream. Choose a basket or leave it out, it's up to you. Either way, your bicycle adventures will be so much more fun with a classic bike.

This small store on Grey Street is filled with vintage bikes featuring horns, baskets and comfy seats. They are a good investment considering this city is very bike friendly and you want to be stylish while you ride! I like 'em even more because I heard they donated two beautiful bikes to Sacred Heart Mission a few doors down. I'm a sucker for pay-it-forward stories, so good on you, Classical Bicycle Shop!

Have been to many bike shops throughout the world and these folks are great. Not sure what's wrong with Jerrica from NYC!?! Seems like she blamed leaving her bike outside on the bike shop. Nothing to do with the bike shop or service. Don't understand how someone from NYC wouldn't understand that bike locks keep honest people honest when you need to leave your bike for half an hour. But you don't leave a bike parked outside over night in any major city anywhere.

I hired a bike for a week since it was much easier to get around town by bike and only thirty mins biking to the city center. On the third day of wanting to bike, I come outside from my flat, to find my bike stolen, lock and all. I thought maybe I parked it somewhere else, but I remember the bike staff telling me that the lock is the same code as the zip code of the city. Not very smart is it? So I went back to the bike shop, same young guy looked at me with a smirk and I told him my bike was stolen. He kind of shrugged his shoulders and laughed a bit. He told me "it happens all the time" I said "Really?! Couldn't you have warned me or made me sign a waiver recognizing that theft is major around these parts of town?" He chuckled a bit and said "Well, behind this shop is a drug and prostitute house, and down the street is where they all hang out" I was beyond shocked and even more upset until he went to the back room and grabbed be another bike of the same sort, with the same lock code. I looked at him relieved and happy I was going to be on my way again. I asked "do I own you anything for the stolen bike?" He said "no don't worry about it. Just be careful and find a better parking." So I went off my way and every night for the rest of my stay in St Kilda I carried that bike up three flights of stairs. My last day in Australia, I returned the bike to the shop. Same young guy looked at me and without a hello, he went to the back and out comes a bald older man with glasses. He looks at me and says "so you are the person who had the bike stolen." I look down and sigh, "yes that's me." He said "well looks like I'm going to have to make you pay for it. $450 is what you owe us." I was in disbelief. Everything the other guy said was a lie, and I felt completely cheated and I felt very set up. Especially with the same lock code on every bike, the mention of the high theft due to drug and prosititutes. Which when I mentioned to the older manager guy he said that doesn't exist and he laughed it off. I've been trying to contact the bike shop through emails and phone calls and even had friends who live there call and they haven't returned my calls. I've been asking for a police report so I can get my travel insurance and credit card company to come up with a solution. Thank god I didn't pay cash which I almost did, and that would not be a way to track. Leaves me to this review. Beware.

I finally discovered Pista Bikes, and was surprised that not only did their mechanic, Paul, actually acknowledge me, but spent the next half an hour just discussing viable options for me to get myself riding. Within the next half an hour, calls and inquiries were made and quotes were delivered for a reputable frame and custom wheels. Given I approched them during the Christmas/New Years rush, I didn't expect anything to happen quickly, but despite that, John and the team had the wheels in store and fitted to the bike within a week of me making a deposit on the bike, to which they even gave a credit for the original wheels to cut the cost down for me. The teams knowledge, expertise and overall customer focused attitudes make them an absolute 5 star rating. So as a shout out to these guys, and anyone else who may have had trouble in the past getting something to suit you, definitely come see them. They'll sort you out. Couldn't give them a higher recommendation. Thanks guys, Damien.

Although they didn't have a bike that suited me when I first went in, they gave a lot of options and test rides and didn't push the sale when I decided not to buy. The bike I got elsewhere has gone in a couple of times for troubleshooting since, and the Cycles Galleria team has been great. They're not snobby toward commuter riders and noobs on a budget the way some bike places are, and seem genuinely keen to help customers get the most out of their ride. Despite the trend toward single brand shops in Melbourne (e.g. Specialized), Cycles Galleria appears to have a handpicked selection from several manufacturers, ranging from cute hybrids with baskets and kickstands up to sleek full carbon road and cyclocross bikes, plus some innovative belt drive commuters. Their prices are very competitive even though the rent must be horrendous in a city mall, and they'll consider price matching where it's reasonable. As another reviewer suggested, CBD traffic isn't great for test riding bikes, although at quieter times of day the area is perfect for trying out climbs and descents. The small-ish shop floor also tends to crowd when customers are browsing and a few people have bikes lined up for service. Overall, Cycles Galleria stands out for customer service in a market that seems to be moving toward high-volume warehouse retailers and elite racing specialists. Highly recommended for novice riders like myself who need good technical advice above and beyond the usual sales pitch.

BikeNow was Great! They replied quickly to our emails because we emailed a few bike hire places from our cruise ship a few days before our arrival into Melbourne, Australia and BikeNow was the only shop to respond immediately. Within 1 hour of entering their shop, the staff had our 2 aluminum road bikes ready to go with the right sizing, helmets, bike bags with emergency supplies, and bike locks along with a couple of maps of downtown Melbourne for a total of $35 per person. One of the guys even spent extra time with my husband explaining the "highlights" of Melbourne city - talk about going above and beyond bike duty! Great bikes with responsible people. Utterly impressive service and their product range backs it up, this must go hand in hand and it leads to the store being a perfect one stop shop. Both myself and my wife got bikes on the same day, each of us with very different needs and aims with cycling. She got a flat bar road bike (Vida Carbon 2014) which was aimed at a more introductory mark with potential to develop, and I bought a high end road bike (Tarmac SL4) that is an upgrade on my Giant TCR. Fantastic bikes and we're both extremely happy. Kitted out, and the fitting of bike to body position was excellent. Good work Bike Now.
