Let me start my review by telling you that my wife went to culinary school and is the General Manager of a restaurant. We are both foodies and went to the US, Japan, etc. What we experienced here at Trattoria500 was the worst restaurant experience ever. It looks like it's family owned and the dad is the host and server. It's a tiny place (probably 12 tables) but the guy is completely overwhelmed/uncoordinated. Sometimes it looked like he didn't know what he was doing but putting down a bottle of water without us even ordering it, was definitely his plan. You have to know that restaurants in Germany make their money mainly by selling beverages - the dishes are in comparison pretty cheap. When he came over to take the order, my wife ordered a noodle dish and so did I. 2x noodle bla bla. That was probably not enough for him. As he wrote it down and was heading back to the kitchen, he looked at us and said "and as an appetizer I'm gonna bring some bruschetta." He just sold us an appetizer, I mean, he didn't even ask. It was so rude, unbelievable. It took a while until the appetizer arrived but it was good. The waiting time for our main course was much longer and the taste was OK. At the end we just wanted to leave, so I asked if we can pay and it took him 10 minutes (!) to come to us with the check. The total was 32.70 EUR (2x noodle bla bla, 1x bruschetta, 1x water bottle). Since I was not happy with his service at all, I gave him 50 EUR and said he should round it up to 33 EUR. Of course that's like a slap in the face but guess what. He said "33?" - "Do you really want to give me a 30 cent tip?" WOW. I was speechless. Not ever have I experienced that someone approached me, questioned me about the tip I want to give. He gave me the exact change back, which was 17.30 EUR, probably in the hope that I think of my decision one more time, and left. End of the story - zero tip for him. It's sad since the food was not bad at all. We would have ordered red wine but unfortunately he ruined everything already by putting a water bottle down (which was already 5 EUR)... read more
