A coworker, who lives in town, brought us to this trattoria. Open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and for lunch Monday through Saturday. Sunday they are open by appointment. During our visit, there was a large party in house.
With no written menu, the waiter came over and told us our options for the evening. We also ordered beer and wine and the waiter gave me options for wine by the glass as most of their wines are sold by the bottle. (I have found many restaurants in the area sell wine by the bottle, 1/4 L or 1/2L.)
We began with a salad of potato and carrot, and a beef tartare. I was curious about a salad with potato, but it was very much like a potato salad served at a barbecue. It was flavorful, the potatoes were well cooked, not over done. The beef tartare was nice, with just a bit of spice.
Next up was risotto, linguine with beef sauce and a ravioli dish. The risotto was cooked just right, as was the linguine and the beef sauce was very flavorful with nice pieces of beef throughout. The ravioli were cooked well, the meat stuffing was a bit dry to my taste, but my companion did not agree and the sauce had just enough spice to be pleasing.
For the main course: chicken in curry and a cold roast beef plate. The curry sauce was not at all overpowering, but clearly curry and the chicken was moist. The cold roast beef plate was just as you would expect in Italy; sliced thin and served with a drizzle of good olive oil. Both plates were served with potato and carrot.
For dessert we had lovely dish with candied nuts sprinkled around. Sweet enough to satisfy without being over done. I had coffee, which was rich and flavorful while my companions had grappa. I am not a fan of the smell of grappa, and I can't begin to imagine the taste but I am told as this one was marinated, it tastes better than some others.
The owner, who is known by our friend, stopped by the table and introduced himself. A very affable man who popped in a couple more times during our visit to chat and be sure everything was to our liking. His wife does all the cooking and I can say she is brilliant. Every dish was cooked and spiced perfectly. Never over done on either count.
I often find Italian restaurants serve enough at each course to feed an entire family. In this case each course was enough to satisfy without leaving me feeling completely 'stuffed' at the end. Just pleasantly full. I look forward to our next visit. read more
