Kim is the owner and one of the main stylists. I had won a gift certificate for this place at a fundraiser, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Her salon is very warm and comfy, and being a dog lover myself, I was thrilled to meet her little rat terrier, Stella. Kim played with my hair and asked lots of questions before she went to town on my hair. She did what I asked, which was for a much shorter haircut, then gave me some suggestions on how I can play around with my look a bit. She's super pleasant and friendly, without being too personal. I'm so glad I took the chance and walked into this funky & friendly salon! Customer service was impeccable, and this clean, modern and artsy place had a really nice energy to it. It's small, yet completely comfortable and functional. Gabriella, from our initial phone conversation, went out of her way with her friendly disposition to both comfort me and clear a space in her schedule for my pampering session. The amazing head & neck massage I received during my hair wash was delectable, and she really took her time to make sure I was taken care of along with the doggie I had with me, which sat on my lap the whole time lol. Finding a hair salon and a new stylist is one of the challenges of traveling full time. Thank goodness for Yelp! We were in the North Lake Tahoe area for a couple months so I made an appointment at Transformations based on reviews here. And I was not disappointed. From my first phone call (always my first impression of any service oriented business) I was greeted in a friendly manner and had an appointment for a couple days later. I have long curly hair that is fine and some stylists have a tendency to want to take too much off. Kim took the time to listen to what I want and like, to comb through and get an idea of my previous cut and what my hair wants to do - then voila, a great cut. Do not go here. We spent $45 on a half ass manicure and pedicure and we were even part of a wedding party!!! I literally went across the street to Rite Aid to buy nail polish remover as soon as it was over. I would have asked her to redo my nails but since a group of girls came in while she was working on us, she was rushed and jumped through everything, which made us just want to get out of there as soon as possible. My advice: get your nails done before going to Tahoe because this place is sadly supposed to be the best around.... read more

Kathy colored and cut my hair, and did an AMAZING job!!! I highly recommend her! This was my first time using the salon, and I was a bit nervous because the last stylist that colored my hair did not do a great job. Kathy was able to completely transform my hair, and give me the most gorgeous color! I have long hair and was also concerned that she would cut it too short, but she gave me a great trim and kept the fullness that I want. She paid great attention to detail and reedy listened to me. I had to give it one star otherwise would give it zero stars. It took 3 hours for a mani, pedi and hair trim. My nails looked horrible and still had dirt under them when she was done. They also smelled like smoke as the nail tech was a stinky smoker. And the foot bath had food particles in it. My grand ma was told she could get a hair style after I was done and then told her they ran out of time ... even though she had made an appointment. Overall very smelly and unprofessional. i picked this place because i had been to the previous salon in KB and really liked the owner and the price. went in today for a wash and straighten for my hair, No Haircut, just a wash and flat iron. I've never been charged more than $40 for a cut and style until today... i was charged $55, wow, hurts the pocket book and motivation to want to return :( didn't know i was paying by the hour...not to mention starting 15 minutes late with interruptions, etc. make sure to ask what the hourly rate is I guess? vs. website disappointed read more

I've been going to Kim for 8 years. I first stumbled upon her when my husband and I were on vacation in Tahoe, and he needed a trim. I already had a hair stylist I had been going to for 20 years. While on one of our vacations I needed a trim...well, the rest is history...I've been going to Kim ever since. Her new salon is very nicely appointed, she went out of her way to make it as stylish as she does her hair cuts. What I love about Kim is that she matches the cut to you; I've watched her work on others and always amazed at what I see.
