Russel Westbrook of the NBA team, Sacramento Kings and Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers were two of the evenings honoraries. It was a great event filled with music and dance. Special recognition was given to pastors representing some of the NBA teams. This event was inspirational and heartwarming and I look forward to next year. There are many organizations that recognize the good works performed by individuals daily and throughout the year. This event is held in various cites and states and should you have the opportunity to attend, I strongly encourage you do.

We also wanted a place that was family friendly for the day we had kids. We found it here. On our first day we were greeted with a warm hello from Denny O'Keefe. We never felt any sort of pressure to join groups or spill our life story. We did so on our own time. We went on to attend pre-marital counseling (AWESOME) and were even married by Pastor Brandon. Joining a small group was another great experience. Highly recommend that, especially when you're starting out. In my opinion the church also has a healthy amount of diversity. But to be honest, church shouldn't be about race and we shouldn't pick at superficial differences. It's about what we have in common - our faith and love for Jesus!

I was looking forward to attending a women's retreat and connecting with a new community during a challenging time in my life. Unfortunately, my experience trying to sign up was disappointing and left me feeling discouraged. I was told (by Nicole) I needed to attend a Sunday service before receiving the retreat signup link, which felt more like a barrier than an invitation. While I understand churches have processes, the way the conversation was handled left me feeling overwhelmed, uncomfortable, and unwelcome especially after I had openly shared that I was going through a lot. I shared with Nicole how I was feeling in the moment, but didn't receive any follow up or encouragement afterward. I personally host women's events, and I would NEVER interact with someone this way, especially when they are coming in vulnerable and seeking community. My hope is that churches remember how important it is to lead with warmth and compassion, especially when someone is reaching out in need. I'm grateful my faith is strong, but I can imagine how an experience like this could impact someone who is new or searching. I've prayed about sharing this and ultimately chose to speak up, not to tear anyone down, but to advocate for myself and for others who may be seeking support and community.

I went last night for parenting class and i must say i was impressed i had been enrolled in echo…read moreparenting completed 8 classes of 20 and found this class on google its a court approved class 12 and intense the difference between the two classes is with echo parenting you learn about the science of the brain at the different age levels along with your own development and triggers involved with your decision making with calvary you feel the warmth of god and you are coached raising a godly child and more examples of how to regulate your house hold rather split or conjoint i enjoyed the class the instructor sister alicia was amazing and gives a one on one feeling while addressing the class in whole this class has much more homework than the other but if your looking to god for solutions this is where you want to be i had to start all over meaning my classes dont transfer but i feel im in the right place not to just get a certificate but to impact my home develop my two boys into men and realistically implement each lesson to our daily living im so blessed to have found this alternative and with one class have learned so much of not only how to embarrass my children but how to communicate with my own mother and the importance of each role player in my house hold along with where i stand in my calling. Already life is much easier as i have already put into play the valuable tools given in just two hours and i can tell these classes will do exactly what they are designed for and id recommend this class over any other. You have to be ok with believing in a higher power though there is no pressure to join the church its very reasonable and plenty parking 7:30 to 9:30 on Tuesday nights. Even if your not required to complete a course this can help you along as parenting always brings forth challenges at every stage of a childs life and it is incredibly beneficial to have sound understand to make the right decisions for yourself and your children.

Even the banquet hall where the reception was held was very clean and the staff was very friendly and took initiative when it was realized some invited but non-RSVPed people had crashed the wedding and there were not enough tables. Me and my friends ended up sitting in the way way back, using a long table instead of a round table. There was no table cloth or silverware, but we didn't care because we just wanted to make sure we got some food, haha

When asked if this renting congregation is LGBTQ+ accepting (most fundamentalist/Pentecostalist groups are not), the Board of Trustees president did not know and said he would bring the issue to the Board of Trustees meeting. Received an e-mail back listing specious, easily refutable reasons why the Board did not want to directly ask the tenant Pentecostal church leadership about its LGBTQ stance. If this tenant church is in any way homophobic or anti-LGBTQ+, then First Unitarian of Los Angeles is in ethical disconnect by providing space for discrimination to happen on Unitarian-Universalist property. Seems to me, this UU church is not willing to look at the possible hypocrisy of this situation and/or is too concerned about losing rent money.

We had great pot lucks after the Sunday service. There was a pool table also in one of the rooms in case the kids couldn't sit still. It was much appreciated. There was beautiful music and lovely flowers and happy people. The love was incredible there. They also had a bible study. I was searching and this church helped me find Jesus. It took me awhile and then one day I attended a bible study at a friends church and was studying the gospel of John. I asked Jesus into my heart and became born again. I was so excited. I felt peace, joy, and most of all love. It's a nice place with caring people and very much into families.
