It looks like all of the murals and public artwork around Lafayette have been claimed by my late buddy Ken N. I thought I'd score a "first to review" for Transcend, a sculpture in downtown Lafayette. But no! That dead mo-fo foiled me again and reviewed this piece first. He "didn't disappoint"! (I'm going to Ken N. purgatory for that one.)
Honestly, just go ahead and read Ken's review about this art piece. He was thorough enough. But I'll add that this is one of those public art pieces that sneaks up on you. Lafayette has a lot of art all around its downtown area, and this is one of them that pops up around the courthouse. Transcend is made of limestone and was created by an artist named Don Lawler. The sculpture stands about 6 feet tall and weighs about 1500 pounds, according to internet research.
Transcend is one of those art pieces that kind of blends into the background, but it's great because it's there and part of Lafayette's art scene. read more
