If I'm really sick I go to another doctor however, as the place is a little dodgy. I think that medical centres should be clean and modern and this place definitely isn't. It smells funny, is dusty and falling apart and the waiting room usually has some unsanitary patients waiting in it. The doctors don't have a great rapport and everything seems very disorganised. There's plenty of other medical centres around so I'd only use Auchenflower's as a last resort.

Dr Buttini was my "last straw". After about 18 months of stops and starts on this particular medical issue, I booked an appointment with Dr Buttini and was genuinely surprised at how quickly I was able to see her given her high-level of demand. Within a week of my consult with her, I was undergoing surgery to remedy said medical issue and I couldn't have been in better hands. She's done thousands of this particular procedure, and where other specialists had advised me I'd be in hospital for up to a week, I was home by 2:30pm the same day. Her techniques are innovative and work for you, the patient, to be back on your feet as quickly, and in as little pain, as possible. She is gentle and considerate while being matter of fact and giving you all the information you need. Finding a specialist as "on the ball" as Dr Buttini took me a while, but I'm thankful I did.

I take both my kids there and I go there myself. Sometimes you have to wait, usually on weekends but most times you get your appointment time plus or minus 15 minutes. The doctors here, namely Dr Davis and Dr Williamson (daughter and mother respectively) are very good. They are personable, which is more than I can say for most and they remember you. I saw Dr Davis through both my pregnancies and before her I saw Dr Williamson. I can't speak highly enough of Dr Davis, neither can my kids. Best GP ever! Bonus - right next to it is the Taringa Day and Night Pharmacy!

This past weekend when my usual GP was unavailable, knowing the team at Taringa is only a short drive away was a god send during my current flu-state. Case in point on Sunday when my conditioned worsened and I was in need of a doctor appointment I went to Taringa. On a Sunday they don't take appointments and the wait time was about 45 minutes. And look - the service is a little impersonal but you can make concessions on this given the volume of people they'd see each day and when you're greeted by the pleasant surprise the Dr has bulk-billed you instead of charging the Sunday fee of $90, you're even more forgiving. All in all a reasonably fine medical practice that is a handy number to have up your sleeve.

I really want to be comfortable with my doctor, especially when it comes to those more personal and intimate visits that are bound to arise every now and then. So when I moved to Brisbane I was a little hesitant to find someone new. I have tried a few doctors but once I went to St Lucia Medical, I knew I had found a good match. The doctors here are very friendly and take the time to make you feel comfortable and safe and valued. The admin staff are also extremely nice and know you by name if you come in regularly. Everytime I have been there they have always been smiling, even when it has been quite busy. All doctors are notorious for running late, but at St Lucia Medical this has only happened to me once and I was only waiting for 15 mins. They offer a good range of magazines and childrens books in the waiting room, so any wait you do get seemingly goes fast. While St Lucia Medical does not bulk bill, they are reasonably priced for their services. I would definitely recommend them if you prefer a more personalised GP experience.

I offer him some tea and tuck him into bed, assuming that it will all get better. I tell him to let me know if he needs anything, anything at all... Two hours later and there is a shallow knock on my bedroom door. My housemate is there nearly toppled over in pain and he shyly asks if I can drive him to the hospital. Of course I spring into action and me and my other housemate usher him straight into the car, blast some Florence and the Machine to make him feel better and take his mind of the pain, and drive to the Wesley Emergency. I had never been to the Wesley before but luckily the good signage on Corronation Drive made the Emergency really easy to find. I dropped my housemate off (with my other housemate to take him in) at the front of the Emergency doors and then went to find a park. There was ample parking out on the street and in the parking lot for me to park and then come in. Luckily my housemate is covered under private health insurance because the Wesley is a private hospital and just happened to be the closest one to our house as well. Once in, the emergency waiting room was not very busy at all and he was seen to straight away. The lovely receptionist got all his details down quickly and he was whisked away into the safe hands of the doctors. When worried sick about my housemate, the Wesley Hospital calmed us down, were extremely friendly and professional and made the not so great experience of having to take a loved one to the hospital just that much easier to cope with.

The Wesley Emergency staff are very thorough, and calming enough to scrounge the important details from you (medicare, credit card, health fund) while you panic about whether or not you're going to die. My doctor Heather Ellison was wonderful: super nice and with a great sense of humour. When she picked up my pink urine sample, she shook the canister around a little and smirked before sighing, "I'd recognise that rosy pink anywhere." If I weren't so drugged up on painkillers and antibiotics I would have hugged her. I slept over the night. It was a little cold with the air conditioning on full blast, but I was brought extra blankets by the nurses. It was hard for my brother staying the night and sleeping across two chairs beside my bed, but he had the peace of mind that his kid sister was being taken care of.

There you are, leaving work early after coming down sick at work. You're not sure what's wrong, but…read moreyou feel it might be best to get checked out, just in case. BAM! Appointment in 10 minutes. That was my experience anyhow. Your mileage may vary depending on if you have a particular doctor i mind or what time of day. They mostly don't bulk bill, but they will send it straight to Medicare for an immediate refund, but they do bulk bill if you're just popping in for some test results. The doctor I saw was lovely, and she explained a lot of things about what the blood tests said that I had not had explained before. There's a QML in the practice, and pharmacy right next door. This is your one stop shop. Are they going to replace my regular GP? No, I have been with them for years, trust them, and they know my history. No reason to change. But for a doc in the city when I need one? Sure, i'll be back.
I have always received excellent treatment from Dr Kyaw Lin Tun for both myself and my grandsons…read more Never been one to go to a doctor all my life but blood pressure issues changed that. Decided to get a skin check and found I could do that at the same clinic with Dr Marcio Francisco. I was advised there would be a cost of $135 with a $75 medicare rebate which was okay. The fee would depend on the length of consultation as well. Made an appointment for 2pm. I arrived at 1.55pm and waited until 2.25pm. Had decided if I waited until 2.30pm I would have to reschedule as I had to collect my grandson from school. Consultation lasted 10 minutes with some liquid nitrogen applied. Advised to return in 12 months unless signs of bleeding after blistering went down. All good. Fee was billed as extended consultation at $185 by the doctor. Bit of double dipping I feel. Anyway I paid it and have never canned anyone before with a review but when I extended this to an hourly rate it exceeds $1000 hr which is no doubt depriving others of medical care. Probably not the epic review you keep telling it is at the bottom of the screen.
There are a few things you should know before you go to Everton Hills Medical Centre…read more The first thing you should know is that you won't find a kinder, more compassionate doctor than Michael Kennedy. He works ludicrous hours every day simply because he's a doctor who gives his patients the time of day. He listens to what you say. He asks questions about your hobbies, what you've been doing, and writes them in his notes. My record has segments in it that say "just returned from Detroit- likes muscle cars" for no apparent reason other than his own entertainment (I'm assuming). He's not ashamed to say "I don't know what's wrong with you" if that's the truth. He will go the whole hog and get you whichever bunch of tests he thinks you need. He's got a strong "we'll get to the bottom of this" approach to his work. He does have a tendency to be clumsy in this comically British way. I can't count the amount of times he's poured tea down his shirt. His office is cluttered, and he's a little disorganised, but it's all part of the charm. The point is, he's thorough, he actually cares, and you can trust that he's a doctor that will do all he can to help his patients. He even makes house calls. What a gem. There's a lot of people who think Dr Kennedy is the best thing since sliced bread, and so, he can be a little hard to get in to see. If you can, try and arrange an appointment for a few days ahead. Here's an important piece of information: He will always run late. He could be 15 minutes late, or he could be an hour and a half late. To save frustration, just call the clinic half an hour before your appointment to see how far behind he is. It will save you a lot of time in the waiting room, trust me. Despite the long waits, I keep coming back simply because he's the genuine article- for me, he represents what all doctors should be. While you're there, read his article that's framed on the wall about the Hypocratic Oath. If his article doesn't win you over, nothing will. Everton Hills Medical Centre doesn't bulk bill, and scripts will cost you around $5.00.
