Parking is completely free around the centre, though beware of rolling trolleys in high winds! There's also a good bus service and for anyone walking in, I wouldn't recommnd the walk alone but all footpaths are safe and a way from the road. The Rainbow leisure centre has a main hall, squash courts, a pool room and bar, a library, a cafe, a gym, pool and a smaller hall usually used for aerobics classes or bouncy castle parties. It's open 7 days a week and offers pretty much any sport you can ask for. You can hire it out for quite a few things, I've been to Bouncy castle parties here and I have been to an 18th here once. The library isn't always open though so look up the times before you go. The cafe is situated above the hall so any parents can look down and watch their children in various sports. Prices are moderate, but you can only start to book cours 24 hours before unless you're a member at the leisure centre. By joining you get to go to a number of places around Middlesbrough. The staff are all really polite and I only have one small annoyance about this place that because of the balcony you're often subject to people leaning over and wolfwhistling as you play badminton or sqaush.

We've been several times on wet afternoons when we've been on…read moreholiday and it area and found that what this place lacks in size it more than makes up for in activity -- they have some brilliant floats which come out regularly during the school holidays. The changing facilities are good (why can't all swimming pools have decent-sized family changing cubicles?) and the prices quite reasonable. There will be bigger and more exciting swimming pools up and down the country I'm sure, but for what it is this particular swimming pool cannot be faulted. Our two kids (now aged 3 and 5) love it.

The kids really do enjoy it and progress which is what you want from a swim school so there's not much more to say! The only thing, and it is a minor thing, which bumps them down from five star, is that they sometimes have waiting lists these days and sometimes you have to wait to get into the lesson slot you want.I guess this means lots of people trust them to teach their kids but its a bit inconvenient if you only have one evening free in the week!

It's aimed at families really - The main pool isn't designed for serious swimming with it's lagoon shape, mostly shallow water and frequent blasts from the wave machine. However, it's a fun place to take kidswho'll enjoy splashing about, and there is a reasonably impressive slide. There is also a jacuzzi and a small pool for swimming lessons. The changing rooms, whilst nothing special, are quite adequate - it's mixed sex but in cubicles, and there are also family changing rooms. The leisure centre has lots to offer in addition to the pool - squash and badminton courts, a small gym, swimming lesson, various aerobics and martial arts classes and a cafe which overlooks the pool, its smell of chips whetting the hunger od the swimmers. I think you can hire out the hall and a bouncy castle for kids' parties, and they do a roller disco which is pretty fun. I can reccommend the Rookies life saving classes, which children and teenagers can attend to learn about water safety and badic first aid. The first part of the class is theory, followed by practical work in and around the pool - and you can work towards a recognised qualification.
