Based on my experience, I was very concerned about the cleanliness of this business. I repeatedly noticed bugs in the shop, and I also saw fruit that appeared moldy or spoiled being kept for sale, including a sour tasting fruity parfait. It did not seem like a sanitary environment, and it made me uncomfortable purchasing food here. I won't be returning. Edit: I'm not a fake profile, and I don't appreciate having my character questioned instead of my concerns being addressed. My review is based on what I personally observed during my experience. Came across Trailside by accident one day in early June, went back in August! On my way home from visiting family in Shelby Twp. and decided to take the "longer way" home. What a nice suprise. It was a very hot day so wanted to get a milkshake. They have 3 sizes-the large was huge so I purchased a medium which I believe is 20ounces. I got the Oreo one and it was really good. Having been here twice now the other time I got a peanut butter shake with a hot dog! Finding the trail right there was a bonus since I hike, but it looks like there's a sign that says you can't park there to use it..? Although an employee told me I could when I asked about it. So that's why 4 stars.....your "trail side" dairy so if I'm purchasing food from you can I go on the trail..? The parking lot is pretty big so I don't see the problem....Employees were great. The choco taco has always been my absolute favorite ice cream truck treat. Needless to say I was devastated when it was discontinued up until very recently I didn't know that Trailside dairy had a homemade version of this delicious treat that was made to order customized with your favorite flavors and toppings. I finally made the trip out there yesterday for the first time and I'm thrilled that I did. The waffle taco that they serve up was one of the best ice cream treats I've had in a long time delicious chocolate, frozen custard. Wrapped in a freshly made waffle, taco and finished with your choice of mini wonderful toppings. It was fantastic. There's a lot to like about Trailside dairy. First of all the portion sizes were outrageously large of the group of four of us. Most of us brought our food home and we left with ice cream in the freezer to enjoy for the rest of the week. I went here and got the strawberry cheesecake parfait and when it came out I was amazed at the portions and how big it was. Lots of chunks of cheesecake which I liked. HOWEVER... I went here not really knowing what frozen custard was and left not wanting to come back lol. If you haven't had frozen custard it's not like ice cream at all. It's like a cool whip/marshmallow texture and does not have a lot of flavor. I got vanilla with my parfait. It's also not very cold? It was definitely not melting but it wasn't cold like ice cream is if that makes sense. Have been coming on a regular basis for a couple years now, but the last 3 or 4 times have been disappointing due to the lack of consistency. My husband and I both usually get the Oreo shake, so we know how wonderful it used to be. The very last time it was a watery mess...very little cookie and it tasted like milk. It was a nice cool night so the only thing we could surmise is that they maybe accidentally made one shake instead of two and tried to remedy that by adding more liquid and splitting it in two. We should have taken them back to the counter, but were too embarrassed and we had our dogs with us and well, they were enjoying what we bought them. read more

My wife and kids and I love coming to Trailside dairy. We haven't been there this year yet due to the construction. It seems I'm always a couple minutes too late and they were just closing, but I absolutely love them. The owner is amazing and he always hooked me up with my favorite, vanilla with chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles, and that's extra chocolate on both ends. Found Trailside Dairy while browsing through the Dollar Inside coupon magazine that gets mailed to residents. I wasn't familiar with this place so I looked it up in Yelp. When it didn't show up, I added it, with all the info posted on the advertisement. The only thing that wasn't listed was a phone number for the business, so I couldn't give that bit of information. But there is a web site, that's useful. I also added the few pictures of the menu with prices. The thing that grabbed my attention and get me super excited was the fact that this place had DOLE WHIP!! Yes! Dole Whip- the famous Disney Park dessert!! If you're not familiar with Dole Whip, as I was just introduced to it myself as of last year, here's the scoop. Dole Whip is a soft serve dairy-free frozen dessert created by Dole Food Company in 1986. It was conceived 10 years after the Dole Food Company took over from United Airlines as the sponsor of Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. Dole Whip built on the attraction's initial refreshment offering of pineapple juice & fruit spears. The original pineapple flavor is best known, although they have created a few other lesser known flavors over the years, including mango, lemon and raspberry. Dole Whip has achieved a cult following among Disney park-goers and enthusiasts. Disneyland and Walt Disney World serve Dole Whip by itself, or with Dole pineapple juice. The latter combination is called a Dole Whip float. In short. Dole Whip is THE WHIP!! It is sweet and tart and a party on your palette! It is refreshing and hits all the right notes on a hot summer day, or a cool spring evening (as we enjoyed last night in 50* temps!). If you have never had Dole Whip- please do yourself a favor and add it to your "Bucket List" of foods to try! Anyways back to the Trailside Dairy review, before I just drop my phone and start driving there now.... I text the hubby at about 8pm last night that I found Dole Whip. Within seconds he text back and asked how many he should pick up! I told him come home and we will all go. The kids were already in their PJs, but they quickly threw sweat pants and hoodies and were ready for late nite dessert! Let me say, this is not an ice cream place, it is frozen yogurt, custard and the awesome Dole Whip. The custard cones in chocolate, vanilla and twist. The frozen yogurt comes in 2 flavors only, No sugar added vanilla, and raspberry. Dole Whip is the original pineapple flavor. Our order was 3 small custard cones ($2.25), 1 large lemon slush ($2.05), 1 medium blue raspberry ($1.85) and 1 large Dole Whip in a cone ($3.15). Their advertising in the Dollar Inside provided a 20% off coupon- you know me, The Coupon Queen was extra excited about that! But even without a coupon this place is worth every penny! The servings are beyond generous! My twins could even finish their small cones! We scooped the top part of the cone into a bowl at home and we froze the rest for dessert today. The large Dole Whip was everything I remember and then ever more amazingness! It's so hard to put into words just how refreshing and happy this makes me! It's like very happy childhood memory you have ever had all rushed back into you all at once. No wonder this is the dessert served at the Happiest Place On Earth! My slush flavor of choice is always lime, and although I was kinda sad they didn't have lime flavor, they fact that they did have Dole Whip made up for it. I went with lemon and was super satisfied with my choice. It was just the right mix of sour and sweet, not too sugary either. And Shhhh, it was a good chaser for a shot (or few) or vodka when I got home! My sons was a happy camper with his Blue Raspberry. The employee was perky and fun, yet fast and efficient. This girl belongs here! Great job on her behalf cranking out our order and ringing us and deducting our discount. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner Mike! What a cool cat!! He was ecstatic that we had the advertisement. He gave us the history of the place- it was literally in house! He lived in this building! He gutted it and transformed it into the TSD. And a great job he did! It's a outside place only, not seating inside. There is tons of parking spots in rear and I love that there's a ramp for wheelchair access. I can't wait to go back- maybe even today! Definitely check this place out!! It's good all day long! Obviously highly recommend. read more

The owner got upset when I asked him to wash his hands before he prepared my son's non-dairy dole whip. Not allergen friendly at all and doesn't want to deal with customers who have allergies. Left with no dessert and no refund. Went to tropical smoothie after they gladly washed their hands with a smile, didn't get offended, and didn't want to start an argument about it or cause a scene.
