What makes this even more tedious is that there are no towels provided so you have to get all that stuff yourself through the park. The chairs were a bit run down. Only one food booth with limited options and they weren't accommodating at all when I accidentally ordered the wrong fountain drink. I doubt I will come back. The hotel pool is more fun.

When we decided to visit the area over the Thanksgiving holiday the park was an option for camping but not the first option and that was mainly due to the accommodations when compared to the other options right outside the entrance to the park but that's another review. The admission is five bucks a car which is collected a few hundred yards from the main road - the ranger wasn't over friendly as he reach out for the payment using a six foot pole with a pail attached insisting on exact change then offered a map which he passed using the same method. These covid-19 protocols are really getting ridiculous I noticed he grabbed the bill without gloves how did he know I didn't just sneeze on it. The drive to the campgrounds, the park store, the marina, the observation tower, the pavilions pretty much everything is quite a drive, I think the loop is just over six miles at 15 m.p.h - I'm in no hurry the day is as beautiful as the drive. We drove through the campground to validate our decision to stay elsewhere, there's no doubt the value is here but living off the gray and black tanks for a week means super conservative measures since there are no sewer connections. I prefer not to carry a portable dump cart or moving the beast every few days requires a lot of effort especially when I'm supposed to be relaxing and having fun. Another park void of many visitors even on a holiday weekend, the campground seems nearly full but the park amenities aren't being utilized. I witnessed a number of park employees doing their daily chores, everything is so neat and tidy it's almost as if they've been assigned busy work to get their hours in. Like most business I'm sure the revenue had dropped off, fortunately for them the state subsidies them for now but I'm sure if this pandemic continues these places too will start shutting down or implement reduced hours. It's was an interesting drive - a nice place to walk and climb to the top of the observation tower. The level of difficulty was just fine for us and the kids, even with my limping. We loved the informative Boy Scouts markers showing the animals that were in the wilderness. Sadly but lucky for us. The sign mentioned bobcats, otters, deer, wild hogs, coyotes, rabbits, opossum, skunk, raccoons, and armadillo. Also there was a bridge made by a Boy Scout as his eagle project. It was done so well. We didn't actually see the animals but we did see very tall birds and the prettiest color of dragon flys. We saw, red, orange, and a tiger patterned wig one. We also saw plenty locusts grasshoppers, and anole lizards. Unfortunately the information center was closed due to covid but the lady working did come out and talk to us. She was supper friendly. Sadly our trip was cut short because of the rain. However if you like the outdoors and love free activities, put this place on your list.

My husband and I decided to do the longer of the two hikes (well marked trails, 6-8 miles). Just be warned that although these trails are well blazed and clearly marked there is NOTHING around for miles. In fact we only saw one another person the whole time we were there! Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. I have to be honest though and say I would not bring children as they will tire easily and most likely be bored. It was so wonderful to be surrounded by beautiful nature. My favorite part is that you cannot hear any cars or city noises. Be warned that you will have to walk through some marshy areas. Disney does its best to provide wooded walking areas but they do not cover everything and both my feet were fully submerged. When you return to the parking lot, the bathrooms are very clean and cool. It was very interesting to learn that the preserve was built as a result of the U.S. Clean Water Act - a law that requires wetlands damaged by human activity to be "mitigated" (replaced elsewhere). The Preserve is a mitigation project established in 1992 with the purchase of 8,500 acres! Although I am upset that so much damage was done, I am over joyed that Disney has taken the proper steps towards making reparations. One should definitely check this preserve out.

An added benefit of the ponds is that they attract wildlife like alligators, turtles, and native birds. Other features of the park include a one third mile paved path for walking, jogging, and biking. There is a covered playground with a play fishing boat and several pavilions with picnic tables and grills. There is also a fishing pier. Dogs are welcome and there water fountains and waste clean bag stations. This charming park makes you feel far removed from busy Havendale Boulevard. I enjoyed the walking path and interpretative signs informing about the different plants and animals that live around the lake. This beautiful park is the perfect spot to bird watch, take the kids to play, exercise, and picnic. I especially love the lake view which is so peaceful and serene.

The Lake Conine Nature Park officially opened on May 13, 2025. Winter Haven had previously purchased the 32-acre property in 2010 with the mission of restoring the wetlands to benefit Lake Conine and the surrounding communities. The park was created in partnership between the City of Winter Haven, Polk County, State of Florida, and the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The wetlands were formed to act as stormwater treatment cells. Through natural processes, water is collected and contaminants are removed preventing nutrients and oxygen depleting compounds from passing into Lake Conine. An added benefit of the ponds is that they attract wildlife like alligators, turtles, and native birds. Lake Conine Nature Park was designed to support recreation, environmental learning, and community connection. The park has a mile-long trail loop along the perimeter of the park along with smaller interior loops. There is also a kayak launch, shaded picnic pavilion, fishing pier, restrooms, and playground. During my walk I spotted a tricolor heron and adorable marsh rabbits. I spotted a spoon bill, herons, and other birds in the water. I came as the sun was setting, so I had the best views, though I don't recommend staying until dark. There is also a route here in Pokémon Go, it spans the entire length of the loop, which is one mile. There are 2 bridges that cut across the water and a dock that overlooks a lake near the main facilities. There is a small pavilion with seating, a playground, and a restroom. There are also benches around the loop, enclosed trash bins, and a doggy station (though no trash bin at the station). I felt very safe here, as the trail is within view of the main road and houses, as well as other people on the path.
