Kim's Kids Summer Camp

Kim's Kids Summer Camp is a fun, flexible, earnest camp that engages the campers while giving them…read morethe freedom to be themselves. I know many people who have sent their kids there (and one of my best friends went to Kim's when he was a kid--he's 29 years old now. He loved it!) . All the kids rave about it. My son has already told me that he wants to go back again for next year. He says it's the best camp. The staff are wholesome and down to earth. The camp has so many fun activities and adventures--without wearing down the campers. The camp is super chill and relaxed yet maintaining campers' safety and protection. Another great thing is the intimacy of the camp director and staff. They really get to know us and they are super approachable and down to earth. They do not have any pretension or arrogance. They're the real-deal. And they take such good care of their staff. I am a union organizer--so I look at these sort of things. I can tell that they are always looking out for the campers AND the staff. I am touched by the support that the administration offers to the staff. I love the staff. They're all fascinating individuals who really love the campers. We are so grateful that we have an opportunity to send our son to such a fabulous space. We will be surely sending our son there again. The camp is super flexible. For instance, I have summer Fridays so I send my son there for 4 days instead of 5. It's great to be able to save that kind of money The camp (Sandra) sends out an email with updates about the plans for the following day with instructions etc. Sandra is very responsive to emails and offers personalized care. She was very empathetic and flexible to me when I had a miscarriage while I was registering my son for camp. That sort of care is immeasurable. In addition, every morning--the adorable Camp Director Dan gives us an update. Dan is awesome. He's like a real new yorker. He's been doing this camp for 30+ years. He says that he has basically made a camp that he wished he had when he was a kid. My son loves Dan's stories...actually all kids' love Dan's stories. He is amazing.

We were looking for a camp that takes the kid to all those places we can't because we're working or we're too tired to drive there. Each day in Kim's Kids is a day trip in a bus to the beach, pool, bowling alley, aquarium, ice skating ring, and so on. It's affordable and they take good care of the children. It's a great feeling when you think about your child having a blast while you're in a zoom meeting. And then during the weekend you don't feel bad if you just want to stay home and relax because your child already went to the beach, the pool and all the fun places!

LLS was our choice after touring about 15 preschools, and we do not regret it for one second. The…read moreapproach at just about everything at this preschool is with great care and thought for the children and intentionality. You can see it in the beautiful design of the space, but also in how the teachers approach anything that comes up with the children, be it potty training or even lunch time -- all the kids in my child's petite classroom read a poem together (all in French) thanking the world for the food they are eating before lunch and learn to take lunches out and put them back on their own. LLS encourages sustainability and teaches children about the beauty of our planet by maintaining a hybrid outdoor program, and encouraging whole fruits vs snacks in plastics. The children work with non plastic toys, they draw abstract art do as to not limit their young imaginations and go to school in a rhythm of songs and structure. We love LLS and highly encourage it for any parent, whether you're looking for French immersion or not!

We absolutely LOVE LLS and are so glad we found it for our children. I toured every daycare and…read moreearly education center in the area, and the warmth and care at LLS just hit different. I am admittedly a very nervous still fairly new mom, and can say with confidence that I know my child is safe and being well taken care of there. Since starting in the fall, his vocabulary has sky rocketed (in both English and French), hes potty training, and is generally much more social and happy. We are fans!

I spent last weekend looking for the perfect skateboard and had a list of skateboard shops to…read morevisit. My first stop was Homage and was surprised to find the design I was looking for. To be honest, I did not have a design in mind- but knew that color-wise I wanted it to be simple, and not boring. Yes- I am very picky and weird. They showed me a primitive / p rodriguez in pastel pink embossed eagle and instantly I was in love. I was a bit hesitated at first because pink isn't what I would normally go for. The staffs (or owner?) were SO nice and informative listening to my needs and selected the best set up for me. Given that this was my first skate shop of the day, I told them that I was still looking around and they were really nice about it. They understood. After going to KCDC and Skate Brooklyn (also went to Labor, Supreme, and SHUT the previous weekend), I was set buying from Homage. I called the shop to let them know about my interest, and by the time I got there they had everything all set out. It took them 15 minutes to set up my board with trucks, wheels and tape- and then I was out the door! They were also teaching a little boy how to skate board at the time, and with the parents there they were really nice, honest, and up front about their son's lessons. I appreciate their honesty with the parents and would actually consider taking classes from them. If I do sign up, I hopeI'm not the only twenty something year old student. Thanks Homage!

This is more than just a skateboarding school (though it's amazing at that). The teachers--and…read moreHunter, in particular--are amazing at encouraging children to take on challenges, face their fears, and celebrate their triumphs. My eight-year-old is a cautious, nervous boy and I am so moved and overjoyed by the way Hunter (and other teachers, they're all great) has patiently, gently, kindly dealt with his tears when he was afraid, felt glee when he braved a scary move, like riding on a ramp. Hunter, of course, keeps him safe, physically, but also has an amazing way of pushing him to do more than he thought possible. Yes, my boy is learning to skateboard. But he's also learning so much more.
