Initially, he was having problems adjusting, and came home saying he did not want to go back, which was very out of character for him--he had been attending playgroups and preschool since 18 months, he is not shy and has never had separation anxiety or problems with new environments. As a concerned parent, I immediately raised it with the camp and inquired about possibly getting a refund should my son continue to not adjust well. The camp administration reassured me that some campers do have difficulty adjusting in the first week, and to give them some time. If after a week, my child was still having problems, they would work with me on getting a refund for the remaining weeks. In the first week, they helped my son make new friends, they gave me updates on his progress, and even took short videos for me to show me how he was doing at camp during the day. When my son had a small accident at camp, they immediately called me and left a message, and provided a full report on his small injury at pickup. My son has since made friends at summer camp, and is truly enjoying it. I know that he is in good hands. The level of care and customer service is commendable--a huge change from Hong Kong, which is where we live most of the year. In addition, I particularly appreciate the neighborhood feel and diversity at CECC. It's wonderful that my child gets an opportunity to make a whole new group of friends with children from diverse backgrounds. CECC is helping my child develop social skills that he will surely leverage and appreciate throughout his life. I'm glad we stuck with it, and I'm sure that both he and I will be sad when we have to leave at the end of the summer. I highly recommend CECC.

This is one of the least expensive camps I have found (and I have researched and researched) and each year they evolve and grow for the better. One year my daughter broke her leg at the very beginning of camp, the staff worked with me, gave me a full refund and inquired often about her well being. My kids have been exposed to so many different skills and sports. I think this camp is great, and it is worth the price, actually they could easily charge so much more for what they offer.

She has only been enrolled a few days and has already expressed how much she loves Stargazer and her group leader Stony. I remember being up at 2:00 am in early February, contemplating how to work out summer childcare and my work schedule. Instead of resting for work, I googled summer day camps in Brooklyn and Stargazer was the first option that came up. I called later that morning, left a message and promptly received a call back. I was pleased with the information Gordon, the camp's director provided and wanted to be sure I guaranteed a spot for my daughter immediately following our conversation. I am grateful to have found such a hidden gem in Brooklyn which is also reasonably priced and enriching. Melissa enjoys Stargazer Day Camp and thank you so much for the bus driver reference. The service is working out amazingly. When I initially met Shawn, he reassured me that my little one was in good hands and answered all the questions I nervously rattled off at him. He mentioned Ted the other driver. She is very professional and courteous. Ted calls before picking Melissa up and dropping her off, and it is definitely a huge plus that she is always on-time. Awesome, awesome, awesome service all across the board!!! Neisha-Ann

Everyone was either full , insanely expensive or full time only. I just needed a few days a week for my 3 year old and some aftercare for my 5 year old. It's taken me over a month! Finding Young Risers was such a relief. The owner and teacher Gesenia is incredible with the kids and has obviously put a lot of heart into creating the space. It is comparable to any of the over priced park slope preschools. There are sensory stations, all the toys promote imaginative play, an open paint area. The kids are encouraged to explore the room and work on what their interests are. She also takes them out to the playground nearby on a walk rope twice a day. They rent the space from a 3rd party and an Army base I think. So most activities are far apart and there are no indoor bathrooms so the kids change in tents or portable potty. The water play area is constantly dirty and never cleaned out. My daughter told me it's usually very muddy and a lot of kids didn't even want to go in. Lots of equipments were broken down and never fixed either so by mid-summer, half the activities listed on their schedule was out of commission. Since this is an affordable summer camp they also have a lot of kids enrolled which meant it was very crowded so know what you're getting into. They don't provide lunch or snacks so you will have to pack it everyday. The counselors are mostly college kids working the summer which is fine but also depends on who you get in your group. According to my daughter, some are great and some are not so great like yelling at the kids. Also, watch out for their so-call refundable deposit. The camp manager called me in Dec 2022 and asked if I planned to enroll my daughter this summer. I told her we were still working out scheduling and wasn't sure when/if we would sign up. She told me on the phone that I could cancel and get my deposit back before May so it would be good to just enroll now to hold her spot, which I did. When I called beginning of April they told me that's for the whole amount not for the deposit. I find this very deceiving and left a bad taste. I would not recommend this camp.
