I've been many many times since and now I live so close by, it's one of my local bars on a night out. This underground tiki-themed dive bar is small, but always has the best atmosphere. The drinks are all yummy, mainly rum based and the cocktails are a delight to watch being made and to drink! The bartenders in Liars are very friendly and are always up for a laugh. I do find that Liars Club is better during the week than at a weekend - the weekend gives off a different vibe, and gets a little too busy for my liking - but rest assured you'll have a good night in here no matter when you visit.

Plus, I read this place was known for its many types of cocktails so I wanted to check it out! The bar is well decorated and looks like it was taken from a set of the cheap version of Gillian's island or something. The decorations can be considered tacky, but come on... It's a tiki bar! I give props to them for their effort. They have a big cocktail menu so don't come here for just a glass of wine or beer... Nope, you're in the wrong bar for that! When we ordered our drinks, we found out that there was a 2 4 1 deal, so we ended up with one extra drink...score! We ended up ordering the zombie (it had fire so I thought it was cool) and three others I can't remember... Haha. All I remember is the drinks were strings, some were well mixed while others were eh it was ok... Just tasted like alcohol. Though the bar is cool, it does have a smelly funk to it so prepare to close your nose especially if the place is crowded...the drinks are cool, pretty creative but the art of making yummy cocktails is kinda lost because the proportion of the juices and alcohol isn't quite well done. Fun place to go to though if you don't care about that stuff!

The red wine tasted awful, and when I took it back I was told there was nothing wrong with it, it was 'just a bad wine'. Also charged £2.20 for a bottle of water. Do I really want to climb a spiral staircase to get in then listen to trains passing overhead? No thanks

Zombie shack opened its doors last Wednesday and I went along to see how the venue (formerly known as the Attic) had been transformed into its new incarnation. Located above the Thirsty scholar on Oxford road, this particular Tiki bar provides a great alternative spot for a few cocktails. The Northern Quarter has become THE main hub for thirsty cocktailovers and this venue placed on the other side of town, perhaps provides a perfect place to start the night. The entrance to Zombie shack is quite hard to miss, the wall directly under the Oxford Road train station bridge adorns a colorful splash of graffiti bearing the Zombie Shack coat of arms. The adjacent rather steep spirally staircases then funnel you into an intimate little dimly lit bar. Walking in, you'd find the bar to the right, a hive of activity. The dance floor in front of you takes center stage and as you perform your first 360, you'll find the walls are worn by more brilliant graffiti creating a mini cocktail eco-system. The seating is rather limited as is space in general, but that actually works in the bar's favor creating a vibrant atmosphere. The cocktail menu will be familiar to most cocktail connoisseurs, with naturally "The Zombie" being the centre piece. A few of these bad boys (each including five different rums) and you're guaranteed to forget all your worries and everything else, reducing you to a stumbling, mumbling, haitian corpse. I love this place, but a word of warning for the fairer sex, wearing high heels is not advised. Walking down the steep spirally stairs on a wet Manchester evening after a few could prove more dangerous than a stroll down the streets of Baghdad red zone.

This was however over 10yrs ago so I suppose places can change, just now me and all my friends have a series of regular haunts in town that don't go near here... until last Friday. To all those who love Keko Moko, to all those who love Liars club, what's the one thing that those two fails at... the're pretty small that's what, I used to enjoy them immensely but I do get a bit bored of wedging myself through the crowd getting to and from the bar let alone looking at a bar that several people deep. Lola Lo is Keko and Liars but bigger, much much bigger which is great, still gets busy and but it doesn't seem to get shoulder to shoulder busy. Does this mean the bars any easier or quicker to get served at...... no, I swear you could make an infinitely long bar with infinite amount of bartenders and it still wouldn't be cocktail bar that works quickly. But alas we all know that if we're going somewhere that does cocktails we're in for the long haul (Bless you beer and wine bless you and your quick serving simplicity) Lots of tables and a reasonable amount of tables with seating. Prices basically the same as any cocktail bar (Bless you beer and wine bless you and your relative cheapness) One thing I would say is better than Keko and Liars is the taste of the cocktails, I find in the other two places they are quite drying out of the mouth and because of all the cinnamon? they burn on top get quite gritty, not so here we've ditched the FLAMES OF FANCY for just making tastier beverages. I can enjoy cocktails but with the cocktail bar offerings and problems I normally avoid. From now on if people are talking to me about going for cocktails I'm going to steer them here

Bamboo cane, grass skirts, painted murals of blue oceans and flowery lei abound in this underground Polynesia. The vibrant music and friendly staff make this a fun little spot to try in the centre of town. After pouring my precious spirits, the barman accidentally left it alone for UPWARDS OF TWENTY SECONDS! When I told him he hadn't given me my drink yet he was unbelievably apologetic and let me have it for free. Someone give that man a damn Nobel Prize. (I would like to point out to my Yelp employers and their affiliates that this does not count as me accepting a free drink in exchange for a good review as I wasn't working on here when this incident occurred and I'm not corrupt.)

Every city should have one. They are just fantabulous, the atmosphere the music really does make you feel as if you are in Hawaii. Why is it that the bar staff at every tikki bar are just ALWAYS in a great mood!!!! It is just refreshing to see that, that energy just resonates across the venue if being projected by all members of staff. It is the laid happy go lucky. The ticks are aplenty in every box that you may have for a bar. The drinks are to suit all different tastes. Aloha is definitely worth a gander, an absolute great addition to your list this should be of all the places to go for a spot of beverage sipping.

It was bustling in there when we arrived for our meal (we booked ahead of time) and our table was tucked to the side of the bar so we were still immersed in the atmosphere of the place but nicely out of the way. The Rib Joint & Tap Bar is covered in 80s skateboarding elements, including an awesome 'tiled' wall made from sawn-up skateboards. Set over three floors, we were disappointed to hear that the upper two weren't open that night (the First Floor Bar had been booked for a private event and the Liars Lounge on the second floor was simply closed). Hope to be able to fully explore next time. Anyway, on to the dining - they have a decent cocktail menu, including examples such as Deep South Zombie (hence the earlier voodoo reference) and a huuuuge list of beers either on tap, in bottles or cans. Conversely, the food menu is remarkably short - with varieties of pork or beef ribs and about a dozen side dishes. The only vegetarian main course is the Watermelon Salad (which was very good apparently). The carnivores in the group awaited the ribs and when they arrived I think most of our jaws hit the floor. They looked like meals for cavemen. Serious pieces of meat on the bone but with a generous meat-to-bone ratio. The gorgeously juicy beef Short Ribs I ordered (£22) simply sloughed off the bones. The side order of Smoke Pit Beans & Burnt Ends (£4) were tasty, but not as good as Red's True BBQ's in my opinion. Cue the meat sweats. I was still full until dinnertime the next day, which if you know me is a serious matter indeed! The only minor quibble was the flimsy paper covers on the metal dinner trays that the food was placed on - it gets somewhat 'mushed' when you're trying to eat your ribs which is annoying - get rid of them!
