This is where you can find organic cotton tampons, non-chemical chapsticks, Comvita throat lozenges. Friendly and knowledgeable staff who don't think you're weird when you don't want a bag, and they have a loyalty card system. Conveniently located near a supermarket, post office, florist... it's a very handy place to stop in and pick up your naturally derived products. There's also a fruit and vege store owned by - I believe - the same people, just around the corner so you can also pick up your produce and free range eggs all in the same trip. Tip: Access/closer parking is easier if you drive in from the Highland Park Drive side, between the two Countdowns. (Yes, two Countdowns. It's ridiculous I know.)

They've expanded over the years (and were recently lucky enough to be picked for Ponsonby Central) but the Ladies Mile store is still going strong, serving the sandal-wearing hippies and conscious hipsters alike. My main picks at Ceres are part of the Ceres Organics brand. I really like their beans and regularly use Ceres Adzuki and Borlotti beans. I'm also a recent convert to cooking with black beans, and Ceres' canned black beans are a great staple to have in the cupboard. While I do enjoy eating pre-prepared vegetarian meals a lot, I do like having Ceres products at home because they make me want to be a better cook; they make me want to make real whole foods in my kitchen and be conscious of what I eat. So a thanks for years of helping me eat better is definitely in order!

Luckily Village Organics has upped its game and cleaned up the shelves and improved on the freshness of the produce. The shop is located at the end of the 'Main Street' Commerce Street of Frankton Village, where they hold the outdoor busy weekly Frankton Market which has crafts and food. The lines that are stocked in this shop have expanded over the years and you can now buy almost everything available at your local Huckleberry or Harvest but with a dollar or so more added to the price tag. For example the Brinks organic chickens which are $25 at New World Auckland are $30 here. And the Pacific Hazelnut milk I'm addicted to is $6.60 in Auckland but $7.45 here. Considering the extra costs of transport and scale of the business I think the price is worth it! The staff are friendly, they gave me some ground cloves from their kitchen for free as there were none on the shelves. The younger shop workers are always willing to ask their seniors if you have a query. You can get chilled sweet slices and cakes in the small cabinet near the checkouts, check them out next time you visit the Tron.

They have regionals seasonings, like old bay seasoning. They have hot sauce, BBQ sauce and rubs! I'm salivating just thinking of the multitude of delectable dishes I devoured thanks to these fine folks. I promise that no matter the year, you will leave with more than you expect. Word to the wise.... If they have a case, an unopened one, they charge less than if you bought them individually. Last thing..... They aren't cheap. This place isn't for the budget conscious, if you're on a budget bring a friend, someone that will slap those double stuf Oreo cookies out of your hand. Because they'll get you every time. Oh and the staff, they won't initiate conversation with you. They are busy always busy. But get there attention and they are warm, inviting & will just about bend over backwards to help you. How they stay in business is a mystery without desirable stuff to buy. They're old and no longer seem to give a damn. I find it remarkable that they stay in business. Not worth the trip.
